What's with it. On the interchange bench side it looks like a sand pit. I havent seen the G in this bad a condition in years. The Telstra dome looks much better than the G ATM, but i just noticed last weekend that the players were starting to slip over again.

Yep, credit where its due, the TD has never looked better. :thumbsu:

Poor buggers have copped it left right and center in the past for a crap surface, they get it right finally and no one says boo.

As for the mcg, dunno, maybe they have just oversown it with ryegrass or something then top dressed. I'm no turf expert

I agree. We never hear good stories anymore. As they say though it's easier to be negative, than it is to be positive.

Aurora stadium surface is also really impressive.
Not sure whats going on with the g.
Hopefully its right for the pies by round 14 when we play 8 games in a row at the G :p

I was going to start a thread a while a go about this, the MCG surface, especially near the members wing looks quite bad, seems like they've spread sand along the wing there, whats the G.O

As for the TD, they've done a brilliant job in bringing the surface up to scratch, not sure if the hardness of the surface has improved but it looks excellent, i wonder what changed??

I recall seeing a similar post to this a few weeks ago and everyone got on their high horse because nothing bad could possibly be said against the McG. Good on you guys keeping an open mind and giving credit where its due. The McG on the new stand side is definitely struggling, it doesn't help that the divot filler they use is bright green sand so it stands out and splashes around.

TD is looking awesome, good on them. They've worked hard for a while and finally its paying off for them. Would be nice if that was recognised.

I wonder if the footy show will run slip and slide segments on the G now. I doubt it.

Drought has nothing to do with it - both the G and the Dome have special exemptions from the water restrictions

That should read by round 13 when you play 9 in a row. but in the AFL's wisdom your home game against a co tenant is at the docks, whilst on same day co tenants of Docks, Roos and Dogs play at the G. Go figure.
With your massive following and our medium following and given ours and your current status on ladder I reckon we'd go close to 70k.
Dogs and roos will get 35k max.

.

this isn't the first time they've done that. I remember a similar round happened last year, something like Richmond v Melbourne at TD on the same day as Doggies v Saints at the G. Unusual.

you may find we get quite a crowd there. just a little thing called G.Archer's 300th. don't know if you've heard of him but he's an okay player.

In regards to this, I'm pretty sure the agreement between Telstra Dome and AFL specifies not only a specified minimum number of games, but also a certain portion of those games as guaranteed high drawing games. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Simple, shade caused by the new stand
Quite so. The turf suffers from a similar lack of direct sun to the Telstra Dome because the new northern stand shades half the ground or more. Root growth is poor or non-existent which means that the turf is readily damaged, divots don't grow over and there is now an accumulation of green sand filling the holes. Marvellous that.

MCC and TD administrators are morons. They just use aritifical grass in the USA for stadiums which do not get enough sun. Behind the times...

Tas - each stadium has a contract with the AFL to provide a 'natural playing surface'. Artificial turf is not currently an option

and NFL players to a man prefer to play on natural grass. Why? It's softer, not as grippy and just an all round better surface. Players move to play on natural grass.

The new stadium in Pheonix is much like the TD, the grass there is moved out of the stadium into the sun when not being used for games, they might have to think about that here.
