Kane is already getting the desires result on the Crows board.

The 2021 comparison to WCE/Freo is interesting

WCE have double the members of Freo

100k to 50k

Adelaide to Port

56k to 50k (and closing)

Also average home attendances (admittedly capacity affected but it was trending the same way prior to that anyway)

WCE 42k v Freo 30k

Adelaide 26k v Port 32k (4th in the league)

Adelaide 26k v Port 32k (4th in the league) is recent yeah?

Reality is if they are mid table and rising they will have superior crowds before you know it, the underlying base level of Crows supporter is surely much higher than ours surely.

It is. But its really old. They are dying out. Also Port supporters are actually Port supporters. There's still that corporate element to the Crows of that Safe, default option. Had lunch with a client yesterday who's got 4 Crows tickets but told them to jam it and they keep chasing him for money. He honestly has no real interest in Footy but has the tickets to schmooz his clients. Reckons he's been to 2 games in the last 3 years. Can't really talk footy with him as he really doesn't know much about it.

By the way, if you are ever looking for a good schnitzel, Jarmers at Brompton does the best schnitzel I've ever eaten.

It is massively higher, which is what Kane is saying, it doesn't translate into a significant difference in memberships or attendance. Throw in all the leg-ups, media sympathy, corporate support and the 'default' state team position, they should rightly be twice our size.

There was an anecdote told to a few of us at the club one evening last year that the impact on covid on our membership revenue was much less than it was on the Crows. Port supporters it seemed were more likely to kick their membership money into the club's coffers rather than ask for a refund. This wasn't the case at the Crows.

There is no doubt in my mind that if we win a flag or two while they are down, we will go past them. IMHO, we should have already, if it wasn't for some wasted years on field and the China strategy having to be shelved due to Covid.

We are still very much in the hot seat in this state, but we have eyes on a bigger prize.

The Corporate and Top end of town is where we trail them massively. I sometimes go these "business lunches" where 80% of the room are Old school tiers. These are the people that are running the state. It is just accepted that the Crows are the team. It's just a given.

Which is why the China strategy was so necessary. It made this regional peculiarity redundant.

Veal or chicken?
And pepper or mushroom topping with that?

2 of us did the tower. You get 4 x Chicken and 4 x veal. Plus 2 gravys and chips for $70. Needless to say, I didn't eat dinner. I'm a veal man in general. We had plain and mushroom gravy. Chips were hardly touched. The dude I went with is a fat campaigner. I'm getting there.

I'm a big guy too but that sounds like a ridiculous amount of food.

Take out the bullshit SMA AO Membership split and the Membership figures are within spitting difference.

Even that will change over time. Many of those are still 'left-overs' from pre-AFL days who 'adopted' the Crows, quickly jettisoning Norwood or Sturt, as the way to butter up clients.

It's all in our hands now. We've had two prior chances to become the number one side. 2005 after our flag, where we fell in a heap and lost the 'Showdown final' and 2015, where we were lauded across the country as playing the best football to watch AND the best match day experience, then we did 2015-2019. Both times we blew golden chances to become no. 1.

Now Adelaide are still dealing with the fallout from their camp, a wooden spoon and now the Walker debacle. If we get a flag now, with all their off-field problems and on-field years of pain ahead, we'll become the 'safe choice' for sponsors and those that don't know anything about football. That doesn't mean anything to those of us who are real supporters, but that's a shit load difference in how much money the club would get in. We'd actually have a chance to pay down our debt, get out from under the AFL's thumb and push back on things we do care about (like the PB's) without worrying about the AFL holding their money over our head as a not so subtle threat, if we don't kiss their feet on every issue.
