What would those “truths” be?

When Ken arrived at the Power, he made it clear that the standards at the club were not up to scratch. Ken came from Geelong and the first thing he noticed about Port Adelaide was that the club was lagging behind in terms of professionalism.

It's no secret that Port Adelaide imploded after 2007 and it's no surprise either given they lost the grand final by a record 119 points.
What followed was the club falling behind in terms of professionalism.
Ken got results straight away as we know, he took over a rabble and got them to within a kick of a grand final in just 2 years.

I’m not sure whether it was luck. It’s hard to imagine it, but the Crows could have set a good plan and executed it well.

It would depend on who had the initiative to, first, embrace NT (vital for establishing a team to begin with) and, then, to hire Erin. For instance, if the idea for a NT-WL partnership came from the AFL House, the Crows were lucky.
Port for Erin there are pics.
AFL house for NT. The Crows then effectively reneged on their NT representation part of the agreement and just stripped it.

My booze outlet the Goodwood cellars is virtually next door great little shop, people and prices.

As for the Goody Butcher, a bit pricey but everything they sell is top notch.

Both my locals, yeah agree. But eating less meat these days so eat less and eat better! Heading to McLaren Vale this morning for work and lately have popped into Ellis Butchers, that’s great too.

To be fair Goody Cellars ain’t cheap either!

Is this story about Ken or about Darren?

All good points totally agree but this isn’t 2016 ….

We’ve died on the hill of Ken’s home truths at the expense of his tactical abilities

In some ways we are the anti crows with Pyke great tactician terrible at all else

What I wouldn’t give to have Pyke alongside Ken then we would be dangerous

They lucked out with Erin and being given the NT.
They weren't given the NT, Fagan chased that.

He had to. Port were getting all the headlines with best game day experience at AO, 2015 was seen as a stumble and Port would be back pushing for a flag in 2016, Walsh being murdered, the crows needed something else to take their mind away from that terrible news, Port were chasing China in 2015 and early 2016 we knew we had a deal with Gui which would have been discussed at AFL House long before the formal stuff in Shanghai in April 2016, and AFL House executives leak so Fagan knew he couldn't be trumped by Ports on all fronts.

When we presented Erin as our future captain with the 5 signings just before Christmas 2015, AFLW was still a 2020 start concept.

The CAS ruling on 11th January 2016 suspending 34 footballers as drug cheats changes all that. The AFL needs a good news story, because Essendon was going to be a basketcase for all of 2016, so lets start AFLW in 2017 becomes the policy to steal some of the headlines.

There were only going to be 6 teams because SA had such poor grass roots and development thanks to a useless SANFL's approach to women's footy, especially when benchmarked against what the WAFC had been doing for 15 to 20 years. The Women's Div 1 states would provide the 6 teams, 1 from WA, NSW and Qld and 3 from Victoria.

But when Fagan said we will do a JV with AFLNT, it was a no brainer for the AFL.

2 of the teams were going to be the Bulldogs and Melbourne given what they had been doing for women's footy. But they were low drawing teams. Which one of the big supported Vic clubs would they give the 3rd licence to? What shit fight would result? Fagan saying we want in, we want to do a JV with NT means women's footy get exposed in 2 more jurisdictions, the mainland is completely covered, but more importantly for the AFL a 4th Vic team and have 2 with a big supporter base to balance out the 2 with the small supporter base.

Anyone who recruited Erin was going to luck out. Nobody outside SA knew that she was likely to be the best footballer in the comp. Nobody outside SA had seen her play for years and nobody knew how good she was.

If Fagan doesn't chase the NT JV, Collingwood probably get Erin and they have 2 flags instead.

Matthew Primus approached Darren Burgess in May 2012 to return to Alberton. Burgo's wife Kristy tells Keith Thomas to keep talking to him and to convince him to come back. Ken Hinkley has nothing to do with Burgo coming back to Port and restructuring the whole fitness department including in November employing Ian McKeown who took over from Burgo in mid 2017 and only yesterday announced he is leaving in October, and also in the same month employed Stu Graham who has been Mackers 2IC since mid 2017.

Keith Thomas conducts a review of the club throughout 2012 including board members and along with deputy chair Kevin Osborn vetts potential board members, comes up with Koch as new Prez and presents them to the AFL to install before any one has even talked to Ken Hinkley.

Keith Thomas employs Alan Richardson in August 2012 after Primus is dumped, because he wants to provide the support Primus never received to the new coach and the young assistant coaches. Richardson because his wife stays in Melbourne in 2013 so their daughter can finish year 12, ends up doing the work of 1.5+ coaches as he buries himself in work at Port.

Phil Walsh tells Port in mid 2013 that he wants to return to Adelaide from Perth to be with his kids and wants to work at Port for the 2014 season.

Ken Hinkley had nothing to do with the above that raised the level of professionalism at Port.

Ken Hinkley played his part, well in 2012-14 years and yes he raised the bar and brought a higher level of professionalism, but let's not kid ourselves that he was a messiah that changed everything single handedly.

There were plenty of games in 2012 that we were within striking distance at 3QT only to run out of puff.

Give Matthew Primus a team that was as fit as we were in 2013-14 + all the other resources Hinkley has enjoyed since day one and he could hardly have done a worse job.

Which makes an interesting comparison of Macca19's list of Port post 2007 GF v Adelaide post 2017 GF.

In 2012, we weren't fit enough and we got too many soft tissue injuries and our highly ranked young players just weren't getting on the park often enough. KT made that point several times in 2012 that it was hard to judge our list because of those injuries (inc Robbie Gray's terrible knee injury at start of 2012).

Timmy G in place of Stupid, feature guest JOHN BUTCHER

Butch says he might not get up again for the Glenelg game (even though it's two weeks away), but he looks like doing a pre-season next year with a view to being a Maggies top-up player - ybb!

"People who call Robbie Gray a star of the game, are seriously underestimating him. He's a good a player as I've seen over the last 10 years. "

Gilly McAdam has tipped us to win the flag on Yokai Footy after reviewing the QF. Said that there is a spirit driving Port that people dont understand. He talked about Russell Ebert's health and that is helping to drive things around the club. He got very emotional talking about the great man. Also mentioned the passing of Eric Freeman.

They also spoke to Aliir and asked him who his mob is and if he keeps in contact with other South Sudanese sports people and he said he's in a Whatsapp group with a few other people and they chat regularly via the app.

KG just said that the AFL have to recognise Port Adelaide's sanfl history in their records and Cornes didn't disagree.

Clearly last night broke them.

It’s been a good decade since I bought the official AFL season guide, but provided they haven’t been infected by the NOALFINSNALF who work for the Budget, they have done for yonks:

The latest AFL record states 1 AFL premiership and 36 SANFL premierships.

Also states that Russell Ebert, Bob Quinn, Fos Williams, Bob McLean, Geof Motley, Craig Bradley, Nathan Buckley, Greg Phillips, Haydn Bunton snr are HOF members from Port. None of which were involved in our AFL era (like John Cahill, Tredders and Wanganeen).

For some reason though John Abley and Andrew McLeod are not listed.
