Its not being in Adelaide for those other teams that is the problem, that just compounds the issue.

* Based in Adelaide
* Ordinary ranking
* League in the shitter

Which NBL team is genuinely thriving right now?

That pic of Sam Jacobs should be deleted and if anything, replaced with a link! Pls allow people a choice (if they want/need more information, or not) because finny is on the money. Thx :)

Agree with you there but never has all sporting teams been so lowly ranked that I can remember

I think the balance is different in these sports but IMO the sporting structures are more to blame than the raw pool of available sponsorship $. After all it's just one kind of $ resource. Some sports have "caps" of sorts, some don't. Some SA teams have the "the only game in town" advantage. One I know had that advantage for a while, knew it was going away, yet still spent slab of their accumulated monetized "advantage" on a speculative white elephant in an attempt to advance the interests of their controlling entity.

In SA footy (& the serial underachiever that is cricket), IMO inefficient and refuse-to-change local control structures are more responsible for the state of things than the raw size of the pool of $ from other sources. "Protected sponsors" in Footy is an issue for us but it is partly mitigated (as it should) be via AFL distributions from those "protected sponsors".

"State Pride", as a term, is as mis-used as "patriotism" or "the Pride of South Australia". Alberton first.

Bit complex for the media to grasp I know :rolleyes: It's just easier for them to drop into template and cliche.

In the sponsorship article linked in that thread Capel mentions the 'expensive' training camp in New Zealand. It's funny how it's just left out there as a hint of financial frivolity and never mentioned that the players and the corporates who attended both contributed significant financial support to the camp.

Hi, Ford. I hope this beau-hoo-hootiful day in our wonderful city of A-A-Adelaide finds you well. #occupyKG

I also liked the bit about OMG PORT CRISIS OWED $350k!!!1 as the cornerstone of the article, while whispering KT's mention of them tipping in between $1.3-1.6m.

I saw that idiot having lunch in City Cross today 10 minutes after I read that article, it took every inch of my will power to not go and make him wear his lunch.

Don't be so childish christoh.

Just spit at him or in his lunch. It is a more mature way to act. ;)

But the talking puppet only reads the words others write for him - becuase he is incapable of doing such a thing.

Why cant it be "South Australian Company My ATM Goes Under" ? When you got to the Adelaide Now website the first story is "Power Sponsor Goes Under"
It as if this is some huge blow for us! We have one article from a potential new major sponsor wanting to dictate to the club and another about a past sponsor going broke!!

I do feel this sort of media focus and defamatory propaganda is on borrowed time though. This time next year I hope we can replace this thread with: The media ... *LOL!*

Well according to the online version of the Advertiser it's now

Fev or no deal!

Port sponsors $1mil ultimatum for Fev

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl

Do these morons not read their own paper? Did they interview KT, record what he said and then get back to the office and say how can we bend/twist/flex the truth to sensationalise this story?

The only person excited by this is probably Fev and the only person probably hurt by it will be Davis as it now becomes damned if we do, damned if we don't on his recruitment.

Honestly, I give up on the South Australian sports media it is an absolute disgrace. If they had written similar articles about the federal government that they have about us that red headed monster in the lodge would be demanding an inquiry. Bob Brown would be having a fit about impartiality, but as its a football club nothing will happen.

Bill Vis has played this beautifully.

Between the media and some of the mindless, idiotic comments on facebook and adelaidenow (from supposed supporters!) it makes you feel like banging their heads together. :mad:

^ thread title should be updated to: "Adelaide media... pathetic"

fwiw - I refuse to click any links in this or any thread - I stopped reading the Advertiser a couple of years ago, haven't listened to 5aa for longer, and will not go to the AdelaideNow site for any reason, and don't watch local news services on tv. They're all so full of shit. There's plenty of other options to find something resembling actual news.

Ever since Bill Vis made his public statements, Port has been the top AFL story around the country, even bigger than Judd's shoulder at the moment.

The dust up has helped to keep the momentum.

For a girl you sure do know your footer. <3

As Bill is quoted in the article in this am's 'Tiser;

... from a business point of view, as a major sponsor, you have look (sic) at what promotions you can get. ....

Bill doesn't give a rat's about the effect of having Fevola on our list has on our performance or our medium term goal of rebuilding a side. He just wants as much controversy as he can get to boost his exposure as a sponsor.

Potentially an orchestrated stunt between VIP and the club? A little bit to conspiracy theory-ish for me, but possible. It certainly is getting people talking about the club and VIP.

I doubt the club was involved until approached by Andy Cap for comment. No conspiracy in a businessman such as Bill Vis generating some free publicity for his company by feeding the chooks.

..... but then some people always think conspiarcy. :)

Yeah, sounds about right to me.

The upshot of this is that if the club were thinking of getting Fev it's unlikely now lest we be seen to be driven by our corporate masters.

:eek:

The issue got a run on Kochies show, Sundown, sunrise, sunny side up or whatever it is called.
