I agree with that sentiment PJ, but losing does not give media commentators the right to invent their interpretation of events.

For example Cornes was clearly told by a journo who was there that the responses of Blee and Ah Chee couldn't have been scripted because of the time between the scuffle and their fronting the media but persists with that comment.

If they were scripted that means the whole event was pre-meditated which then blows Cornes's entire theory out of the water.

Bottom line - Primus has to get the players to start winning matches and playing respectable football next year. If he does, we will regain the higher footing in this state.

Ball is in Matty's court.

If it was just a matter of winning games! The media is so biased against Port Adelaide that we could win a premiership next year and there'd still be a plethora of negativity about it.

It's not about us - it's about the overall standard of journalism in this state. Most articles are based on their usually biased interpretations of events rather than investigative, personal, tactical, trending or historical articles - that are interesting and thought provoking. Even though Rucci has his many critics, when he goes down the real journalist path, his articles can be of a high quality - the best in this state by far.

And when I mean biased interpretations this means - when we are down, kick and denigrate us and be really creative by using the same terms like, "cash strapped" as many times as possible - and of course when we are winning, ride the coat tails and make sure your articles sound like you foresaw the success coming.

As for Wrinkles' articles - I haven't read them for years - I started to read his latest (from the link above) and when I got to the deliberate lie about the player plants, I stopped and didn't finish it.

It's no coincidence that he is on the same page as Rebecca Wilson and Geoff Roach - and what did another poster say earlier - not worth toilet paper - as accurate a comment as I have read recently:rolleyes:

We cannot and will never be able to control the anti-Port journalism that has existed in this state for the 30 years I've been following footy. However, in the late 80's it was much easier to tolerate and indeed laugh off, because we always had the last laugh. We could rationalise it as the rest of the state's envy and insecurity. If/when we become a force again, the journalistic BS may in fact become more vile, but at least then we can hold our heads high as supporters, knowing that our club is doing everything right that is in its hands.

Port supporters rarely bothered or needed to whinge about the media's resentment of us in decades past - it was beneath us. Let's just focus on blocking these arseholes up, by becoming formidable again.

And as much as it may or may not be part his fault, I don't want Kane Cornes to enjoy the ride. I think for a long time we have been undermined from within and it would be highly naive of people to think otherwise.

As I said in an earlier post, there were so many disgraceful bits in that KT interview that I would have to listen to it again so I could comment on it properly. I’ll try to keep it focused but I think it’ll jump around a bit just because there are so many mind-jarring bits to cover. Please keep in mind that this post is my opinion only and some may oppose that opinion which is ok; I don’t know everything there is to know, I respect the opinions of others and my name isn’t Graham Cornes.

The KT interview serves as a perfect 10 minute example of why any self-respecting Port Adelaide supporter should stop listening to the 5aa Sports Show. From the very beginning of the interview, we can hear the not so subtle digs at the PAFC. Example, when KT is being introduced, Cornes says “Keith Thomas, seems hard to say it, chief executive of Port Adelaide”.

The first topic for discussion was the Trengove/Schulz tussle. KT explained it for what it was (quite well actually), however Cornes and Rowe were adamant that it was far more serious and kept on pushing the point about what would happen if there’s another tussle next week and as CEO, KT should not be happy about it. In response, KT says the absolute right thing about what Rowe and Cornes were doing: “It’s bringing a negative slant to this footy club that really, we don’t need it.” Clearly, the club, the coaches and the players viewed it as a non-issue but Cornes was convinced it was a major incident that was as bad as “the Carlton player booting his team-mate up the backside”. KT “We took it as no big deal...” Cornes interrupts “Well it is”.

The 3 issues I have in this first part of the interview was 1) Cornes and Rowe telling KT how to do his job, which they would have NFI about; 2) the total lack of respect shown to KT by Cornes who repeatedly spoke over him and didn’t believe what he was saying; 3) the horrendous negativity and bullshit about underlying issues from Cornes and Rowe about what ultimately a 2-3 tussle during a training drill in 30 degree heat.

The second part of the interview was about the false rumour that one of the rookies was reduced to tears during the New Zealand camp. KT asked Cornes to name the player, which he quickly identified as Wingard to which KT clarified from firsthand experience of the trip. KT again tells Rowe and Cornes what they’re doing with this purler “What you are doing, is that you’re creating an impression that one of our kids had a problem with other players and there’s only 3 kids”. Cornes only response was that he said “young player” which encompasses more than the draftees. Yet again, we see Cornes and Rowe perpetuate a myth that there are underlying issues between players, specifically, between younger and older players at the club.

Cornes quickly moves on to the third topic of the interview, sponsorships. This part was relatively benign, oddly enough. The end though was utterly disgraceful, Cornes “You’re sounding like a Port Adelaide person, get out of here”. Again KT comes up trumps “Just back us in a bit”, Cornes “we do!” (BULL-****ING-SHIT), “Keith you can’t buy this sort of publicity!”, Rowe “A a a a a haven’t you heard us the last 3,4 weeks?!”

Despite being a Norwood champion, KT is now painted with the same brush as the other Port Adelaide people. I could tell from the interview that KT has certainly seen things from the Port Adelaide side of the fence. Cornes continues to be acidic to everything Port Adelaide. In fact, I don’t think he has said a single positive thing about anything the club has done since the end of the season (not that I listen to him or read his articles). The New Zealand trip was a terrific training experience but all Cornes wrote about was the dangers of white water rafting and mountain hiking, followed by starting false rumours on air about young players crying while on camp.

Now that KT is well aware of the way the club is portrayed in the media and on 5aa we may see a different approach. In the end though, all we can do for now is stop listening and boycott the sponsors of the show (as long as they’re not also sponsors of Port Adelaide or charities).

"a club scratching for up-sides"

Just off the top of my head.....

We've recently traded in the nephew of a club legend, a solid midfielder in his own right, and a premiership ruckman from two of the biggest clubs in the league for peanuts.

Drafted the best 18 year old in the state, who was touted by many as a top 3 pick this year, and two other very promising youngsters.

Re-signed all of our quality young players despite all of them being 'homesick' and 'destined for Victorian rivals'.

Damn my fingers hurt from scratching so hard!!!

The rubbish has been going on a lot longer than 30 years, refer to the post below I did last decade

Poor old Marx, in his day, more villified than Grave Danger.

IIRC, it was Laurie Jervis who did the most complete, vicious & biased hatchet job in a newspaper, that destroyed a blokes career, even up unto this day.

Jervis was probably Ashley Porter's Godfather, they both had the same morals when it came to Port Adelaide.

That was about Marx Kretschmer and an incident that supposedly occurred in 1958 with Ron Kneebone

Naturally I'm relying on what I was told by long time club supporters who were around in those days.

see here

There's a bit about Marx there

- A fully-funded fitness department to get the most out of our state-of-the-art facilities.

- Currently immersed in the first official membership drive as one club.

- Adelaide Oval on the horizon largely at our prompting - and avoided the wooden spoon in front of a bumper crowd there in our last start.

But no, scratching about like Foghorn Leghorn, we are.

The Club could make it easy for everyone- stop making our players and staff available to the station and provide MMM with exclusive access. That way, 5CC truly becomes the Crow plus other sports show.

We may be cutting our nose off though, we can't win a war against the media and we do need them.

I think peoples suggestions of complaints to station and sponsors is a good approach.

Your statement, in full, is exactly **** ing right !

Let the Cornes's and Rowe's have their head; it's great for us and as for banning our players/coaching staff from appearing on their show, as suggested by some others here, is absolutely dumb.

It is vitally important to have our people subjected to the histrionics and bile emanating from our opposition because, make no bones about it, Prune face and Itchy and all the dross they represent, are our opposition.

We need to get the youngsters at our club to understand that oppositions hate us; they loathe us with a passion and why? Because we are Port Adelaide, a proper football club with age old affiliations and traditions that non-Port people in this state, if they did have such noble qualities, have long since abandoned them in favour of an inorganic monolith established by the elites to benefit the oligarchs.

In your words, we must become "formidable again": that's our end of the bargain and we MUST succeed.

Yeah, on reflection, you're right. We just have to win football games- lots of them.

I guess the auto-cue has instructed Mark to add the following twitter gem earlier today:

Mark Aiston
The Port Adelaide Football Club is paranoid about the media. Hope coach is not getting involved. Last time that happened it was a disaster.

He's probably pissed as Port doesn't use his media training business, which I am sure would be worth every penny

Congratulations Puppet, you have mastered spell checker and at the same time possibly used the word paranoid in the correct context.

Yeah, comes real cheap at $500 per hour.

@MarkAiston Just like when you said it was the Auto-Cue you were reading out and not your own Reporting attacking Port? #hawkward

Probably just stopped any possibility of my new Fringe show getting on his news program haha.
