Priddis is a great player for the club. In the stats last season Priddis and Shuey were the only 2 WCE players to average over 10 contested possesions last season. He was the AFL's highest possesion gatheroe, top 3 in clearences and top 3 in tackles so that means one of the AFL's hardest workers in winning the ball and applying pressure. Yes he isn't flash and not the best kick but he is a good example of hard work and determination for young footballers to look up to. If he wasn't playing in our midfield this year who would be the one to win the hard ball and apply the pressure he applies week in week out? I'm going to just say in, Priddis is going to be put in the AFL Hall of Fame after the end of his career! As WCE supporters we all should be happy that an Eagles player won the Brownlow and has deserved it. What is all this hate it's not like every one of his kicks misses the target and without him the contested ball winning would fall to Shuey, Gaff, Yeo, Selwood and Sheed very early in his career.

Jeez you know - you're right

Now that you have pointed this out I think I speak for everyone when I say we've all had a change of heart as a result of your post

Matts grouse - mods - may as well close the thread now.

Thanks for having a change in heart, i guess i just have that effect on people.

Both GCS games were questionable when it came to Matt and votes.

I tell you one thing his votes v Collingwood at the MCG were well earned. Pies supporter next to me said they wished he was on their side.

He played a power house game that evening and we almost got over the line but for two very soft / dodgy frees in the last 5 minutes.

I mentioned that many Eagles supporters didn't rate him and actively called for him to be let go, the guy laughed and said 'you are joking!'. Nope I replied and he then said 'well those guys don't know s**t about football then'.

I agreed.:D

Do you have anything relevant to add to the discussion other than some rambling story about you and your Collingwood mate and your undying love for Priddis? You know like some in depth analysis of the type you suggested to someone in the other thread?

That was and is till this day the best game of his career. Thus the pie supporter doesn't know SFA.

It's also a once in a blue moon game. We played russian roulette with the magpies midfield, and surprisingly Priddis actually made an impact on the game for once with his 2 goals. His 40 odd touches were as average as always, but the fact he hit the scoreboard was a huge bonus, and the only noticeable part of his game.

Until the 4th quarter when, like a good player should, Pendlebury shat on Priddis by taking the game by the scruff of the neck and winning it for them with a handful of possessions of his own. Doesn't take much for an A grader to wrestle back the win from a plodder.

In all fairness collingwood played terribly, with back line injuries, and we played extremely well, yet that still wasn't enough for a win. Shows where we are at.

Heres hoping this happens sooner rather than later. and throw Duggan in there as well.

Hard work and character can only get you so far. Without talent those 2 traits are wasted. You can have talent without those other 2 to an extent but not the other way around.
Priddis lacks the one quality that would have made him a champion of the game. Talent.

In terms of beating a quality team away from home*

Something we haven't done since...... Carlton 2011? Pretty sure they finished 5th that year behind us so you could call them quality
From the match report of that game round 14 2011 Carlton vs WCE at etihad

Matt Priddis

Tagged by Ellard... 19 handballs among 30 disposals with 4 marks and 6 tackles... also 1.0... massive second half to set up the win

So I guess that means he is still the only one stepping up !

Fair enough, but then again we haven't beaten a finalist for a couple of years, either home or away. And on topic, I don't think Priddis is a significant reason for that. Let's see what the coach can do in his second season.

Do you think it is ok to have talent and not work hard, be lazy. Anyway can you name a developed player currently on the list who can replace Priddis in the team?
This is some of the hard work Priddis did last season.
Contested possessions per game he gathered 15 the next best was Shuey with an average of 10.6. When it comes to tackles over the season Priddis laid 161 average 7.3 the next best was Mark Hutchings with 88 average 5.5, those two players are seen as our most unskilled and untallented according to many people on this forum. I would have to agree that they don't have the skill and talent of Shuey, Yeo and Gaff but i like Priddis because he does most of the grunt work and applies defensive pressure so that Shuey and Gaff can use their skills more on the outside. The midfield would miss him if he wasn't there.

Answered.
Read post carefully before asking questions already explained.

The Adelaide game this year was just as good !

Nah. His follow up for against Collingwood sets that game apart, got to the ball drop in places he normally doesn't.

You can go back and read the old thread. All of these tropes have been fully addressed.

Well then what is the point of this thread? Priddis won the Brownlow so just deal with it all you nasty people! Nothing that we say on here is going to change that. He is finally being recognised by the rest of the competition.

I think you can tell what the point of this thread is.
