How does Conor McInerney still get named to open for South Australia? He’s 30 years old and has a first class average of 19 in nearly 40 innings, with a high score of 63. Surely there has to be someone better or at least younger with some potential.

Not sure how you can really bin him. He’s still only 28 and when he’s healthy, he pretty much always performs superbly. Might be time to pull the pin on his red ball days though.

I feel pretty bad for him, he would’ve had a great career but it seems clear that the shoulder injury he suffered in the Pakistan ODI has completely altered the course of his cricketing career.

AFAIK Jhye basically needs to have shoulder surgery like mine. If you have the surgery I had you will never bowl again. It's why the super slow build up back to FC cricket and slowly building his body and muscles up to compensate and net bowling first. But he's missing a significant amount of the humeral head now and it just takes a slight bump at the exact wrong angle or when not expecting it and it dislocates.

As far as im concerned he's the most talented pace bowler of his age bracket. He's 3 and a half years younger than Cummins and should at worst be the 4th bowler in the main pace setup nationally. Depending on conditions he could have been picked ahead of Hazelwood or Starc for lots of test matches as well if he'd been fully fit the whole time.

A real, real sorry story not only for him and his immense talent but also for Australian cricket.
