This seems like a pretty good explanation

Great explanation that, which settles it for me. He's basically going from straight, to bent. Which is the opposite of chucking.

Plus, he is elite at seam position and control. Then you throw in that his point of release is slightly closer than normal bowlers, and you get an all-time great.

I think he’s basically hyper mobile in that elbow (and possibly his wrist) so much so that the bloke is basically like a human wanger (those ball throwers they use in the nets or people do when throwing the tennis ball for their dogs).

Physiological advantage for sure but I don’t think he’s a chucker.

Plus the way he presents the seam is what makes him elite compared to our blokes; almost always getting a “bolt upright” (to quote the late great Tony Greig) seam from Bumrah which explains the prodigious nip that he gets off the pitch.
Agree . He isn't a chucker just has a genetic advantage and combines it with incredible skill.

His release point is also closer than most bowlers ( think they have shown this on footage ) so he really is on you even though he bowls rockets anyway.
Its like facing your quickest club or grade bowler off 20 yards.
He than manipulates his wrist to keep the seam as bolt upright as you will ever see and his delivery angle gives the impression he will always come in .
But he doesn't.
You can't train to face him because it's so unique .

We had a guy at my home club who was double jointed . He was medium pace but was very awkward first up . He felt on you and was able to hit the deck hard so it felt heavy and he would seam it .
After a few overs you got used to it.

Personal opinion, but Webster strikes me as a 'bits and pieces' all-rounder. i.e. someone who is okay at batting and okay at bowling, but not excelling at either. Test teams can do without such players. At a minimum you want a player who is above average at one of the disciplines.
What is this based on? A vibe thing?
Because it definitely isnt based in reality or stats. If he is only ok as a bat then topping last years shield season with close to 1000 runs at 58 in a season dominated by ball would mean the rest of the domestic options arent great. He is going at a tick over 50 so far this season too. Not bad for an ok bat.

Doubt MM had a season as good as that in the shield. His Test average with bat and ball are the epitome of only ok bat and ok bowl and it has gotten a whole lot worse this season.
Webster must be selected for the next Test especially with a cloud over Starc and his likely replacement Jhy being as fragile as blown glass. Need an all rounder who can put in a 15 to 20 over innings if required. We risk coughing up the BGT by not having a viable back up to one of our bowlers going down during the test.

Based off his first class batting and bowling averages of 37.

Thats the problem with just looking at an overall average with no context..Drill down and you can see he has improved greatly and is one of the hottest prospects in the country. Nobody that scores 900+ runs at 58 in a season is just an ok bat.

Plus he only started bowling seam up during covid years, using his overall bowling average at all is useless

If he gets a game he would no doubt be an improvement on the current version of Bison.

I have high standards when it comes to the all-rounder slot. I basically want the next Kallis or Sobers. But I'd settle for a Flintoff or a Botham.

Head’s average is so good because he bowls so many pies that batsmen try to attack and end up playing loose shots. Like the half tracker to Pant that ended up with Pant trying to hit it the required 80m with all his weight on his back foot.

Matthew Wade used to get a handful of wickets in Shield like this, by being so ordinary at medium pace bowling that set batsmen couldn’t hold back from attacking him and sometimes they’d lose their shape and hole out or chop on.

Will Green be fit by Sri Lanka tour? With how spin friendly it’s there I think they need to have a few spinners and Green can help cover one of the quicks.

Also really would be disappointing if Maxi gets taken over there
