There’d have to be massive question marks over his ability to get through an entire Test, wouldn’t there?

Starc prioritises test cricket over all else, is a Sydney native, and is looking winning the first series over India in a decade (after four straight defeats). I’m guessing he will do everything possible and put his hand up for selection.

I think given that he’s already gimpy and has bowled a lot of overs that it would be better to get someone fresh in (Paris being my personal preference), but the selectors are generally very reluctant to not back in the veterans. Hell, Bison will probably keep his spot on the logic that you don’t make changes to a side that won, and don’t you know he catches well?

I meant Richardson’s ability to get through a Test.

I'm not as knowledgeable about cricket as a lot here, but is it ridiculous to suggest Renshaw should replace Marsh at 6?

Given that Marsh is basically a no-rounder in this series, literally any somewhat in-form Shield cricketer is a reasonable suggestion to replace him. All-rounder (Webster)? Sure. Extra pace bowler (Richardson, Paris, Abbott, O’Neill, Bird)? Why not. Extra spinner (Murphy)? Okay. Extra bat (Renshaw, Patterson, Cartwright)? Works for me.

Apart from vibes and the odd catch, Marsh is bringing nothing to the side this series.

Is there a spinner all rounder to bring in for marsh ? Someone who bats and is better than head to give Lyon a chop out .

Otherwise replace starc with a genuine spinner and marsh bowles the 3rd seamers overs

We really miss cam green .

Yeah nah. Marsh isn't your 3rd seam option. You're right, we're missing Green right now.

I wouldn't go an extra bowler or all rounder. I just want a batter in decent form to replace Marsh, who like you said is providing next to nothing

Inglis.

Won't happen, but that would be the smart option if a change was to be made, given we only need a draw. Head and Marnus could bowl the all-rounder overs. Hell, maybe even Smith at the SCG.

Australia deserve their 2-1 lead and I think it’s a fair representation of the series overall

Batsmen from both teams have struggled with only Head (410 @ 58.57) and maybe Smith (277 @ 39.57) finding any real success with the bat for Australia. Whilst Jaiswal (359 @ 51.28) and Reddy (294 @ 49.00) have led the way for India. Labuschagne and Rahul have had their moments but neither have been able to convert their fifties whilst also falling cheaply multiple times

Difference is in the bowling. Bumrah has been magnificent with his 30 wickets @12.83 but he’s lacked consistent support. Siraj has 16 wickets but his average of 31.43 indicates his inability to maintain pressure. They’ve been unable to find another bowler, spin or pace, to make a meaningful contribution

The Aussie quicks have been better at sharing the load - Cummins has 20 @22.65, Starc 16 @28.73 with Boland (11 @18.27) and Hazlewood (6 @13.16) have combined for 17 @16.47. The three pronged attack has ensured that India’s batters have consistently been faced with excellent bowling - Lyon whilst not taking his usual share of wickets (8 @39.12) has at least been able to keep up the pressure with an economy rate of 2.68 which is bettered only by Hazlewood

As Dazzler9 has just posted above, if it wasn’t for Bumrah this series wouldn’t be anywhere near as close

Inglis is unavailable with a calf injury so you’re right, it won’t happen
