I agree - would have kept Williams, Pittard, maybe JMac and either Durdin or Maj. But Mase unequivocally needed a fresh start. Tbh he was never the same after the concussion vs Essendon in 2016.
Yeah that whole period was a catastrophe for which we are still paying, and suffering. Then trade him. He was 27. Worth a fourth rounder, or thrown in as some steak knives or something. He was delisted before any other team had finished their season. You gotta at least take the piggy to market.
There's a reason no one took Williams, Pittard or JMac from our hard rubbish. But they were experienced players who were all better than the alternatives we took. So naive to hastily trash so many players whilst we had a rookie coach whose own health was a concern.

He was a scared shitless cat that couldn’t get a kick in a street fight in his last year with us.Can someone remind me again about our rationale in delisting Mason Wood…?
I am torn by Richmond winning another game and Geelong losing. Ah F it! Let Geelong lose!!!
You still need to give the guy trying to win the ball some prior, it can’t be instant holding the ball if you are tackled.I have to say I prefer the new interpretation. I can also get why Daicos wasn’t pinged. Interestingly, it immediately reminded me of Cunnington getting away with one against Richmond in that great finals win in 2015.
Anyway here come the catsI am torn by Richmond winning another game and Geelong losing. Ah F it! Let Geelong lose!!!
Without the talentThat conway looks like a young barry stoneham
from memory he was in our 2s at delisting..... and we were in the covid bubble, and we only had like 4 fit players left and rhys shaw still wasnt playing him. Think it was his lack of forward pressure ???Valid.
But it's indisputable that we cut too hard at the end of 2020. Whilst most of what we cut were balls, Mason had enough to keep around until someone took his spot. Or at least trade for something. Hindsight is 20/20 but kicking him to the curb for nothing was one of a litany of poor list decisions.
I have to say, I think AFL is the best sport in the world. However, it’s absolutely impossible to umpire. I have the utmost respect for umpires. I cannot imagine how they have the strength of mind to put themselves in the firing line like they do. I’m aware that’s a red rag to a bull around these parts. You still need to give the guy trying to win the ball some prior, it can’t be instant holding the ball if you are tackled.
The one I was referring to was one against Garcia where he wins the ball and wasn’t given to time to dispose.
Umpires need to not make it all about the tackler, winning the ball needs to be the purpose of the game, not sweating on someone and tackling.
I’m fully behind that. I just take issue with how we went about our “garage sale”.wE wERe ReBuiLdiNG aNd GoiNg tO The dRAFt.
Wood got overlooked in the drafts and only got picked up as an SSP. Tends to suggest there wasn’t a market out there for him at trade period. Then trade him. He was 27. Surely they wont draft as poor as we did fot that period.North 2017 vibes.
Clubs are talking to agents/players before trade periods begin. Wood's agent would be well aware of what the interest level for Wood is.How would we know? We delisted him literally at the first possible moment! Idiocy.
How was it crazy, the odds simply reflect the book.Pretty happy about getting on George Wardlaw at $12, tbh. There's always a chance someone gets injured or suspended, it was crazy Reid was that short so early in the season.

So we could have maybe got a fourth rounder for him and not had space to use the pick?
Like I said with the first sentence. Clubs are talking to agents/players before trade periods begin.Like I said. How would we know? What was the rush to delist him?
