The obscure XI's you've always wanted to make but never found the appropriate place thread

Have only recently discovered this thread. Marvellous stuff.

Here you go, probably pretty easy to get:

1. Chris Gayle
2. Brendan McCullum
3. AB DeVilliers
4. Brian Lara
5. David Hookes
6. Ian Botham
7. Adam Gilchrist
8. Kapil Dev
9. Phil DeFreitas
10. Mitchell Johnson
11. Andy Roberts

I like this one but i'm having trouble with it. Something to do with stroke play/strike rate/six hitting. I'll keep at it.
Gayle's test SR (60.3) is surprisingly low to me.

Something to do with Runs off a single over? I know Roberts had a big over, as did Hookes, and I can imagine all the others having big overs while batting.

All of them scored 20+ runs in one over in test cricket, I think.

Correct you are.

I was trying to find more obscure and older ones than the last few decades.

Would have loved to have included Bert Sutcliffe for his insane 80 in 1953/54 against South Africa - but technically he only scored 19 off the one over (with 3 sixes, the number 11 hit one in the same over). Botham came very close to doing it three times (24 off Stirling v New Zealand, 22 off Hughes v Australia, and 19 off Lillee v Australia in 1981 at Old Trafford). Lara did it at least twice that I know of (28 v South Africa, 22 v Australia).

Would have liked George Bailey, just because he did it from Jimmy Anderson.

Favourite Aus XI from my formative years watching (95-02ish) - All format (Not best, just players I loved) Think it would be competitive in both formats tbh. Bats very deep and lots of bowling options

Nick Davis is on a rookie deal, and has played for Australian junior teams and made runs this season for Tassie's second XI - and he's apparently a more than useful bowler. He's probably next cab off the rank in terms of debuts.

It's a bit ominous to be suggesting 21 year olds out of the second XI who hasn't yet debuted for this exercise, but that's the bed that Tassie cricket has made for itself by prioritising results ahead of development, which I've bitched about for years up until this season when we have a lot more Tasmanians playing.

And that has Freeman batting 6, yikes.

I’ve probably posted this before in this actual thread but I yearn for the era when they fielded Kremerskothen, James Polkinghorne and Shaun Clingeleffer in the same side

If you were lucky enough to switch the tv on while the scorecard was on the screen you would think just for a moment you had wandered into a Sri Lankan odi match before you adjusted

My man Butters and Hilfy were of a similar vintage as well.

That SA side is downright depressing.

Grenfell native Henry Hunt ftw.
Can still remember him playing for Lachlan as a kid - my local council side which yours truly also managed to get picked in years and years and years ago albeit I never actually played a match for them. It’s a tiny little place. He was always a good player but not ‘gee this kid will be a possible Test candidate one day’ good

I'm about to pick them apart a bit but don't think it's because I don't enjoy reading them. I do and appreciate the effort you go to do them.

Labuschagne is surely in QLD's XI? If he's not because he moved to Australia when he was 10 then that also rules Neser out of QLD (and probably rules Inglis out of WA).

Aiden Cahill is from Newcastle. Only moved to SA last season.

Radhakrishnan and Carlisle are also from NSW.
