Oasis have announced their first gig of 2008, set to take place at Canada's Virgin Festival Toronto.

The band will join Foo Fighters as headliners of the event, held on September 6 and 7.

Other acts announced for Virgin Festival Toronto include Bloc Party, Spiritualized and The Pigeon Detectives.

The Canadian Virgin Festival was launched in 2006, and has since featured acts including Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, My Chemical Romance and Bjork.

Oasis, who will close the festival on September 7, are currently working on their seventh album in Los Angeles.

Come back boys, we miss you!
Bloc Party?. I'm shocked Oasis are doing anything associated with those pricks. Kele has a filthy tongue.

and the gallagher brothers dont?

good point, should be interesting

anyway keeping with the thread topic, 'Supersonic' has to be one of the best songs I've ever heard, and I like about 8 bands better than Oasis but that song is simply ****ing awesome, cant get over, have listened to it daily for about 2 years now.

First ever oasis single, written in 30 mins, recorded that same night, never remixed, the version you hear is from that night, pure genius.

Thank You Very Much Indeed.

What the hell?
From the **** himself.

''"I think Oasis are the most over-rated and pernicious band of all time. They had a totally negative and dangerous impact upon the state of British music. They have made stupidity hip. They claim to be inspired by The Beatles but, and this saddens me, they have failed to grasp that The Beatles were about constant change and evolution. Oasis are repetitive Luddites."

This coming from the man who wrote hunting for witches. Quiet pathetic really.

I think its time we pay respects to all the past and present members of oasis, and funny stories you have heard about them, etc, etc.

First up, Tony McCarroll.

According to Noel Gallagher, he was ****ing useless on the sticks, but still he played drums on quite possibly the greatest british album of all time, it was the only album he played on, however, he did play drums on Some Might Say, on WTSMG.

Next up, its the one and only "Bonehead", played some dodgy rhythm guitar for the band, drunk cartons of beer, and genuinely created trouble. Still a valued member of the band in the 90's, comical relief, as Noel says, what would they have done without me, let bonehead take over.

As we can see here, he is under arrest, also Bonehead had all his clothes stolen on the ferry during that famous incident all those years ago.

Also like barking into microphones and acting drunk in airports

Now its the very quiet bass player known Guigsy, apparently all he ever talked about was cricket and football, Noel reckons he only ever said "sweet as".

I hardly know anything about Guigs, his not in the Wonderwall video due to taking leave due to nervous exhaustion. Hardly anything is really known of him, hated interviews and the publicity. Still, left the band in 99 after his mate Bonehead left, still friendly with the band, as all bandmembers apparently are, expect Mr McCarroll.

Alan White drummed in Oasis after McCarroll's depature until early 2004 when he was sacked.

His best performances IMO are in some of Oasis' most popular songs especially Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger with blistering studio performances.

Seemed to get a bit lazy live late in his oasis tenure and his style has cited as contributing to some of Oasis' indulgent records such as Be Here Now and SOTHSOG.

He was also Liam's offical drinking parnter and was involved in several high profile brawls while he was in the company of Liam not the least being the brawl in Munich in 2002.

Andy Bell joined the band in 1999 to play bass despite playing guitar up until that point in time. Has contributed songs to Oasis unlike previous members of the band. Very solid bass player effectively fattening the sound to make Oasis a much tighter live band then they were in the mid 90's despite still being brillant.

I know that's what you were referring to. What's your point? He called them out of their bullshit, and everything he said is true. Just because you don't know what pernicious means, doesn't mean the guy isn't spot on.

Next up is Gem Archer who also joined the band at the same time as Andy in 1999.

Went for a beer with Noel Gallagher to see if he would get in the band and after drinking half a pint of Guiness he couldn't wait anylonger and said, "So what does Liam think", to which Noel replied, "Liam?, it's my ****ing band, I'll have who I want", needless to say, Gem was in and many believe he is one of the most under-rated guitarists of his generation, and easily the best in Oasis as evidenced by the fact that he often takes lead and lets Noel do rhythm in certain songs, especiall when Noel is singing.

Has also written songs for Oasis and is a valued member of the band, he like Andy is a vegetarian and likes going to Art Festivals, so much for ROCK N ROLL.

I know that's what you were referring to. What's your point? He called them out of their bullshit, and everything he said is true.

Bullshit it is, basically he was trying to grab the coattails of oasis so he could sell more records, he replied to that comment nearly 2 years after it was originally said.

Lots of bands do it to get publicity, the Darkness said the same thing about Oasis, the lead singer said that Oasis were great, but they never cracked America (despite having a #2 album there) and that they couldn't be bothered trying"

2 weeks later he comes out and says how much he admired Oasis for not trying to change there attitude or sound for america, so basically in 2 weeks he has done a full circle

As for this beatles bullshit, sure oasis do have an influence, but oasis songs are like booming football chants, nothing like the beatles really, but this myth still gets circulated.

Bloc Party are ****ing w***ers.

Next up is Zak Starkey, the son of Ringo Starr.

This guy's is heaps better live then Alan White IMO, smashes the drumkit and was trained by Keith Moon before his death.

Is real stregth is in the heavier oasis songs such as Rock N Roll Star and Acquiesce, his fills live on Lyla are amazing.

Makes the guy from Muse look like a session drummer for Hi 5 or Take That.

Andy and Gem are legends, and Andy has written a couple of rippers. Turn up the Sun is so ****ing good, and a quick peep is the best 1: 17 song I've ever heard. They should do it again but make it longer with lyrics. Maybe call it 'A longer peep'. Or not.

Jay Darlington is the touring organ player and keyboardist for Oasis and has been doing the duties since 2002.

Is nicknamed Jesus for his inanimate manner.

Noel Gallagher has some hilarious comments on the Lord Don't Slow Me Down commentary DVD section on Jay.
