I particularly liked the bit where he said Young lads either local or from the West Coast(What about Murray Bridge and Victor Harbor mate?) can't dream of one day growing up and playing for the mighty port magpies.
I don't know where this bloke comes from or anything about him but I doubt whether that many kids dream of playing for the not so but once mighty port magpies anymore.
Most would dream of playing with the Power and Chad Wingard

Yeah, Summerton's pathetic rant has left me feeling little to no sympathy for the magpie faithful. **** 'em all. Keep pushing for our Reserves team under the set of conditions we want. If the SANFL don't like it, uproot and move to the VFL. All I want now is what's best for us and winning AFL premierships. **** this state.

I don't know what's been going on the last few days. I can't get on top of it 'cause I haven't been able to spend the time on getting into the nitty-gritty but for what it's worth, having our AFL reserves as the Maggies in the SANFL was always going to create an uncomfortable situation because there would have to be a dozen or more players at the Maggies who would not be required.

Once the shock of change had worn off, it would be back to normal. There would be a Maggies league side, reserves, under 18's etc. etc. that would be drawn from our zones; all that is, bar our AFL recruited players.

I can understand totally where Sumo and Jeremy Clayton are coming from because they have spilt blood for the Maggies and don't want them/us to become second class citizens at the very least and gone at the very worst. Clayton is a champion of our club. He has won a Magarey Medal and is four time best and fairest and some of you dick heads around here ought to get your heads out of your arses and show some sort of compassion for the people who bleed black and white instead of dismissing them and their feelings out of hand. It's that type of passion that has got us where we are and some of you should be ashamed at how little respect you give these loyal servants of our club. You may not agree with them or, like me, you understand the necessity of progressing for the good of our club but what you should do, is try and allay their fears that this is the end of the Maggies instead of abusing them as you would cow arseholes!

If Koch and Thomas do bend our club over a table and let the SANFL old boys f**k us by taking away our Magpies and they are OUR Magpies and take away our zones and our cultural background, then Koch and the others are in for war.

It'll be the shortest war ever.

Also Clayton is a champion of your club, not mine.

this is a mess and its all the SANFL's doing since 1997! if they wanted a Port Adelaide presence in the SANFL back then they should have made the Magpies our reserves team as a condition of us going into the AFL! the Port Adelaide supporter base has been divided by the SANFL and the anti-port media in this backwards city since!

I don't understand the SANFL at all, they wanted the Magpies to stay in the SANFL separate from us, then we took them on with the One Club 2 years ago because PAMFC wasn't financially viable. now they want to basically kill the Magpies off by getting rid of the juniors and magpies reserves and just have a power reserves team running around in a magpie guernsey is a farce!

why can't they just go with the original Power reserves model? once again a simple task is made difficult by the SANFL and their cronies!

Sure, i'll show them respect if they show us respect. Like it or not, they are irrelevant and the club has moved on from them.

Genuine question: who is Steven Summerton?

A 10 year player for the Magpies who came from the clubs metro zone and played through all 4 grades....Hes the poster boy for what a large percentage of us want to keep.

Large percentage?

Only by the same sorts of measures that say Sydney have more fans than any other side.

If you did a poll of the 40,000 who'll be attending Saturday night's game I think you might be in for a surprise.

Do a poll of the 1,500 who attend Sunday's game at Alberton and yeah, you might get a result more in your favour.

In theory maybe but in reality? How many players have Port drafted from its zones in the last 10 years? One. I'd say most players know their standard and many would know the SANFL will be the pinnacle of what they achieve in football. Players wanting to play for Port Adelaide in the SANFL shouldn't be knocked. After all, there were plenty of players in the past that knocked back offers at the higher level to stay with Port Adelaide.

IMO, the only choice as to not upset either party, is to put in place a reserve power side in another competition and cut ties with the SANFL and the Magpies. Most Magpie fans are not Power fans and this causes the friction between the two supporter groups. Port Adelaide split in to two clubs was never going to work, the SANFLs doing. Magpie fans don't support the one club idea, some are also Crow fans and other AFL club fans. It's sad to see it get nasty, i grew up with the Magpies but they are a shell of the club i used to know. I wish there were a way to solve this issue with both parties being satisfied but that will not happen. Young people today jump straight on to the Power and don't have the passion for the Magpies, it's all about the AFL now. I remember when Russell got sacked as coach and the protests at the light house but when Jack won the next three GFs all those protesting fans were soaking up the glory. Times change, some adjust and some try to cling on to the past, this was never going to be easy. I think it can get a little personal to people closely connected with either club and emotions take over rational thinking. I can and do respect your post.

Its what the club itself wants to keep. Is that not good enough?

Did you actually read that which Summerton wrote and Clayton is unapologetically defending?

It's utter tripe and aims at all the wrong people. For their standing on this issue they've done nothing but harm the Port Adelaide Football Club and alienate a swathe of educated, financial supporters who otherwise would've backed their cause.

I'd label it insanity if I thought they were in any way aware of the damage they'd done.

Was it good enough when the club wanted to be Crows lite?

The SANFL declared war against the PAFC back in 1990 and then had the short sightedness to introduce an SANFL franchise. Port should have been allowed the first AFL license and imo followed a few years later by a Norwood AFL license. We would not have the bulls*** situation we have now. I think the boot is on the other foot now and they need us more than we need them. You reap what you sow.

Clayton blaming Koch is like a Ford employee blaming Kevin Rudd for losing his job, despite all federal governments pumping money into the industry like no tomorrow.

There will be a team wearing the prison bars in the SANFL in 2014 and onwards. They will be called the Magpies, they will be Port Adelaide. But we are making them more relevant to where Port Adelaide as a whole is. No longer is it about pisshead country level footballers like Adam Cockshell, or players who clearly will never get another go at AFL level, like Josh Thurgood. It's now about helping Port Adelaide;
a) Give the Power the best chance of winning the ultimate prize
b) Give Port Adelaide local kids the best chance at playing at the highest possible level.

I understand why Summerton and co. are upset, but at the end of the day, this is for the greater good.
