How about we all take a chill pill and give Koch and Co time to work out the best possible outcome that they can get.
Lets just wait and see what happens. Best possible may not be best for everyone but I have no doubt it will be the best we can do in the current climate.
Koch and Co can take all the time they want but if we are to give up our current set up and our zones, then it's only in the best interests of the other 8 SANFL clubs and the cows.

Have people seen this http://www.portmagpies.com.au/juniorclubs.php or this http://www.portmagpies.com.au/country_academy.php ?

Take every player that currently plays for the Maggies from the league side right down through to our junior affiliates and attach a set of parents, a sibling and two friends. That is 5 people for every player plus that player, that are associated with our club. This does not include grandparents, uncles, aunties, cousins, more friends, communities that feel linked through these players etc, etc and what you have, are members, supporters, VOLUNTEERS, coterie members etc. that are the bedrock of Port Adelaide both Magpies and Power not just for now, but for way into the future.

With one stroke of the pen, all of these people will be extinguished! Our club will be condemned to death because without these people, CLUBS do not function nor survive! Let the f*****g cows sort out their own shit. Their way of dealing with "reserves" is their prerogative and has nothing to do with us.

The cows have what I've mentioned above x 8 and some around these parts are salivating at the mouth because they can't wait to hand over our lungs, our heart to the f*****g cows but thats OK, "we're in the AFL"!.

What's best in the current climate is to tell the SANFL that we will not compromise the current set up of our Magpies and if and when, there are noses put out of joint within our club due to the fact that a dozen or so of our current Magpies will not be required, then that is something we will deal with internally as a club. If that is not acceptable to the old boys of the SANFL, bad luck: just try and boot us out of the SANFL competition and see what happens.

As for not having Power reserves if we decide to maintain the status quo, then some around here aught to stop falling for the arse hole Rucci line that somehow it's going to make an enormous difference. That is the biggest crock of shit going 'round, in fact, by having all our blokes at our club for what amounts to 85 to 90% of the time and then making them go to other environments, some argue and strongly as it happens, that it is good for them to get out of their "comfort zone" of Alberton and have to negotiate through sets of circumstances and scenarios that exercise their minds. It builds character and discipline and sorts the wheat from the chaff by making them perform under extreme situations.

Story went back then that Sheahan happened to see VFL and Port officials together put 2 and 2 together and came up with 4.

OT but from here

How many of those junior players have been drafted to the Port Adelaide football club(AFL version) in the last 10 years?

That is irrelevant. How many of their parents join the club and sell raffle tickets and put up their hand to volunteer for the club? How many of them become life long members and indoctrinate their progeny in the Port Adelaide way?

We can still have similar types of members and contributors by developing new kinds of community links. ie through academy sides, etc. it will need to be a strong focus of the club and done in a very professional way. The resources formally used to run junior teams could be allocated in such a way.
I think portia may have hinted towards this in some previous posts?

Portia has copped a bit of a tongue lashing on this one from some quarters.
I would prefer the tongue lashing that the other Portia (De Rossi)gets from Ellen de Generes

I have a feeling this whole issue (i.e. Meiklejohn and Summerton) boils down to lack of communication between the higher ups and the SANFL team.

I presume the leak came from the VFL given it was Sheahan that broke the story. Does make you wonder how much we were the sacraficial pawn for the VFL. Still, we ultimately won our objective.

No there was no leak. Sheahan has told the story a few times, including on the original Fox Footy Channel 2 part doco The Birth of the Crows from their Headliners series in 2006.

Sheahan was in at AFL house near the MCG, Jolimont I think, on another matter about 2 weeks after Port and Schwab started talking. He noticed Bruce Weber and ex CEO Ian McKenzie come into AFL house and they were ushered off to a side room. Sheahan asked what they are doing there and got no response. So he thought it was strange and started asking questions. He says he kept on getting stonewalling answers and answers that didn't make sense. As he dug deeper and watched who was going back and forth between Adelaide and Melbourne it was obvious something was going on. His connects, lead to what was going on, as well as a bit of "adding 2 and 2."

Alan Schwab was an old style footy administrator and he and Oakley understood how sensitive it was going to be once they announced Port were in. Sheahan broke the news before the heads of agreement had been signed. The AFL back then weren't the political animals they are today. Wayne Jackson who took over from Oakley was politically naive compare to Demetriou. Don't be surprised if Demetriou ends up in politics. He has learnt a couple of things from Bill Kelty who has been on the Commission since 1999.

We are one f*****g club and if you cannot accept that Port Adelaide is the sum of all parts, then you are just the type of person that the c***s at the SANFL love because it's snobs like you that they rely on to try and rip our club to pieces.

Woah, someone grab the tampons. Like me, Portia acknowledges that we're one club, but doesn't give two ****s about the SANFL team. We're not obliged to, either.

From memory Bazz and Pilko took up a big dollar offer on a Sydney morning radio show around about the time that Double SAFM where making gigantic inroads into the radio ratings. 5AD were already on the decline.

They went to Sydney in 1985 as I went to Sydney for my 21st and stayed with my sister and she put them on in the morning and they were still struggling with Sydney suburbs and locations and only been on air 3 or 4 months. When they left they were past their peak of 44% audience share, but they still rated in the high 20's and daylight was 2nd. The rest of 5AD were definitely past their peak but were still in the top 3 ratings stations when they left. Once they left the decline became faster.

I don't want to rip my club to pieces; I want to take its ruptured appendix out.

Were you asleep when we were all fighting to be whole once more? I can't remember you coming out in defiance against such a move. Maybe you did and I missed it but if you think that Koch and others would be able to get away with killing off OUR Magpies and our communities, then you are in for a rude shock.
Yeah, I was against it. I am pretty sure I said something along the lines of the SANFL are a bunch of campaigners that we should leave behind, that we absolutely do not need an SANFL presence, and that the ongoing existence of the Magpies, considering how irrational and Power-hating a significant portion of their glued on supporters seem to be, is pointless, tarnishes our brand, and limits our potential for growth.

Clearly I was absolutely wrong on all counts.

Port Adelaide have been in fights and wars before and we have always won out and we will this time 'cause if we don't, we are dead and buried: we wont be around in 15 to 20 years.
Port Adelaide will win, and it will be a win through getting a reserves side for the team that matters.

We have to move forward, if we are to be highly competitive in the hardest competition in the land. with GWS and he GCS coming in with all their super concessions we have to do it right. We cannot afford to be held back by the usual SA it's to hard attitude. If we need a reserve team, do it, don't stuff around back and forth with the SANFL, they don't give to shit' about Port , just the cash flow we produce. VFL would do it for me.

If our reserves played in the VFL, we would certainly still want them living and training here. The extra bill for our flights could be part funded by AFL as a legitimate "equalization" measure and as a "STFU, FOAD" message to the SANFL. The Crows are clearly happy with the arrangement they've been told to be happy with, so let them have it. Under these conditions, the ongoing structure of the Magpies teams is not connected to our AFL reserves any further and we withdraw our players from their SANFL homes. With the complexity removed, any further acts of legal piracy by the SANFL* will be seen for what they are.

Out of interest, do the VFL teams ever play as curtain raisers on Etihad, MCG, Skilled ? Extra experience on those grounds wouldn't hurt at all.

* robbing us all those years ago of our share of ownership of the AAMI asset for example

Geelong's reserves play home games at Kardinia, occasionally as curtain raisers, but that's it. No VFL is played at the MCG, and Etihad is only used for the grand final.

I can't reconcile why the magpie's staff and senior players would be told that there will be no magpies team next year. Presuming we intend to field a "hybrid reserves" side next year in an as yet unknown competition (as Kochy revealed during the half time break of the GC game) we must have told the SNAFL that we are pulling out of their competition lock, stock and barrel. How does this fit with Kochy saying that things will remain status quo (ie a SNAFL magpies team in the SNAFL) if we can't agree to a reserves model in the SNAFL. There seems to be an inconsistancy of information of Rucci proportions.

Inconsistancy from the Adelaide media WTF?..

People need to have faith in the guys that have turned us from a basket case back to where we belong.

We have a guy like Kochie who is not only Port Adelaide loud and proud but is buisness savvy and knows how dollars make cents.

We have put our faith in these guys thus far we should all get behind them and support them.

Thanks for the timely reminder as to why the SANFL and their abortion the Crows can go eat a large bag of phallic shaped items.
