And it has Trigg's favorite word - preparing.

Preparing doesn't mean will. It just means "If negotiations don't pan out the way we would like, we are ready to compete the same as we always have."

Words matter, especially with public statements.
You lost me.

It's just that the actual quotes in the statement are very hedgey, and the whispers from later in the evening are... fascinating.

And the fact that the Victorian media have gotten wind of it is rather suggestive too.

It would be hilarious if Rucci, after having no idea about the Tippett saga, and after pushing the idea that we HAVE to join the SANFL and kill the Magpies in the process, was once again left out of the loop while we announced a half million dollar sponsorship for an additional side in the VFL or something.

The relevance of the ferrethead would be that of an amoeba on a flea on a rat. :D

My preferred scenario

1. Enter VFL in 2014 provided we don't have a ridiculous fee for playing in the VFL but will have to pay our clubs travel and accommodation + VFL clubs travel and accommodation to Adelaide. This might be an opportunity to get Air Asia on as a sponsor of the club and do deals for the reserves team while a bit guerrilla marketing Virgin Australia despite Branson being involved in Air Asia.

2. Magpies still play in SANFL and we still develop juniors. When we get hit with 10 injuries and need 10 -12 Magpies as top up players listen to SANFL clubs squeal that PAMFC has become a weakened team and crowds aren't turning up to watch them.

3. SANFL fill in players get exposed to more recruiters in Melbourne. If any good get recruited and club gets a transfer fee.

4. Keep taking $450k+ per year from SANFL like other 8 clubs - BUT NO $50k from crows. thats ok.

5. Two games at Alberton some weekends. More potential revenue for the club with their clean stadium deal.

6. AFL might schedule a few curtain raisers for Port games at AO, value adding the entertainment for our fans.

7. Up to SANFL to kill off magpies at end of 2014 if so then and they take the shit.

Rucci is such a flog. He has it both ways in the paper this morning. One article is about "Pot's last chance to sign up to SANFL reserves plan or miss the boat" and the other article is about "farcical divide for players split between SANFL club of origin and Crows reserves". He (rightly) gives a hypothetical of a kid winning the magarey having played for 2 clubs in the same competition in the same year.

Well which side of the fence are you on Rucci? Or just as I've always suspected - you are sitting directly on the fence with a pole straight up your ass...

Its been mentioned in the past that the club wouldn't be able to afford to keep its SANFL commitments as well as a separate reserves club in a different league. So its either one or the other. We either play in the VFL and shut down the Magpies arm. Or we split the club and let the Magpies go their separate way, which would add a number of old issues.

I would think any move to the VFL would involve a clean break from the SANFL. Meaning 0 Port Adelaide involvement in the SANFL at any level.

I think the Magpies as we know it now will be gone either in 2014 or 2015. Hate saying it but we have to move on. If the PAFC got what it wanted in 1996 by moving the whole of the Magpies into the AFL, we wouldn't be here talking about this. Those who want to leave because of the new Port Adelaide Magpies Reserves, i say, it was nice knowing you and to those who come on board i say, welcome to the PAFC.

2015 scenarios.

Scenario 1:
Power (AFL)
AFL Reserves (VFL) (wearing Power guernsey)
Magpies (SANFL)

Scenario 2:
Power (AFL)
Power Reserves (VFL) (wearing Power guernsey)

Scenario 3:
Power (AFL)
Magpies/AFL Reserves (VFL) (wearing Magpies guernsey)

Scenario 4:
Power (AFL)
Power Reserves (SANFL) (wearing Power guernsey)

Scenario 5:
Power (AFL):
Magpies/ AFL Reserves (SANFL) (wearing Magpies guernsey)

Scenario 6: (status quo)
Power (AFL)
No AFL reserves.
Magpies (SANFL)

Any others?

A perfect chance to raise our profile in Melbourne as a national club. Prison bars in the VFL.

Break the shackles!

I think the Collingwood ressies might have something to say about the prison bars....

And for that matter BiB is probably a bit too close to North Ballarat's guernsey.

Doubt it, will be more about consistent branding why we don't use them.

Surely we could use either the PB or BiB and use a clash strip if we are playing either of those teams?

So Elite Crow what do you think about Rucci's article today in the Advertiser where he claims that one SANFL club changed it's vote to YES as their club sponsor was going to remove their sponsorship if the Crows did not get a reserves team?

No prizes for guessing which club that was!!!

Absolute joke of a club.

No no no, this is the best thing ever for the sanfl there were never doubters or opposition, just like Adelaide oval.

At least South Adelaide had the courage to stand up for what they believe in unlike the "sell outs" from the Parade.

So a club sponsor can now dictate the future directions of a club?

What a rabble!!!!
