I've not played for many years, but here's something I've never understood.

Apart from winding up the home crowd if you're playing away from home, why do footballers give a toss about the placement of a ball on corners. Is the extra mm or two going to make that much of a difference?

It does seem pointless with no real advantage gained. I also notice that when a corner is taken on the lino's side they really don't care too much either. The only time I've seen it pulled up is when it's that obvious a referee can see it from 20-30m away. IIRC the ball is supposed to be on the line or inside the arc if you were to strictly comply with the LOTG.


It's a bit like the 6 second keeper release rule. Common sense applies with that. Only those keepers who really hang on to the ball for a long time are ever penalised. I don't reckon I've ever seen a keeper called for holding on to the ball for 7 seconds in their arms.

He got carded for going off at the ref. Maybe when he starts starring in big games in big tournament's he can deserve it
