Opinion The PB's - a celebration of 150 years. This year or later?

Should we wear the Bars this year or wait until we play in front of a home crowd?

So it looks like the PBs have sold out on the Port Store's website... again. At least they'll have at least 10 months to make sure they're back in stock before we wear them again
In a season where every dollar is crucial, firstly the store shouldn't be running out, and secondly as this is obviously what the punters want, just give it to them onfield. I vote for "wear now and campaign tirelessly for next year as well"

Those who want to 'wait', wait for what?

For wearing them one more time like a begging dog?

I'd rather shove them up Eddie's arse than wear them 'one more time'.

It's our 150th year, we can't play in the SANFL, we should at least be wearing the Bars in every home game. The only possible compromise vs Collingwood might be to wear one of the jumpers from before their bloody club even existed and make that point very clearly at the time.

We thought after 2014 that we'd wear them more regularly, and it's been f***en forever.

Wear them every chance we get and then demand to wear them again and again. Any time we pass up the opportunity to wear the bars, we give ammunition to our opposition. We should be pushing to wear them every single game.

Why is there an or in the question?

Very clearly the answer is neither. We do it both, and again and again and again.

Withdrawing from wearing them at the showdown is a sign of surrender that we accept wearing these only once ever again. Completely unacceptable.

Wear them.
Wear them now.
Wear them then.
Wear them whenever the fu** we want.

I'm over this shit.

We didn’t ask the SANFL to join the AFL.... the only difference is now management is piss weak. They accept life as it is, apologist KT.

Cause some ripples, just wear them Port.

What would even happen if we just started wearing them without approval? Is the AFL really gonna fine us in the current climate for not following their uniform policy?

We may not get crowds this year so we could be waiting for something that won't happen. Imagine not wearing the PBs in a year we celebrate our 150th birthday. Wear them. Stand up to the AFL and deal with the BS that comes with it to wear them again when crowds are back. Unfortunately with Thomas staying on we won't get much of a fight.

I have pledged all my membership fees from this year, if they decide to not wear the Bars I will be demanding that money back.

I will also strongly encourage others who believe in this cause to do so!

That's just it. If the people running our club right now believed that we have the right to wear them, even if it's just for 'special occasions', then they'd just go ahead and submit it for approval without all the hooplah. It's the one point that I agree with Eddie Mc on; I'm sick of the whining about it.

The truth is though, the main people in charge, don't believe that the guernsey is our right, nor do they believe it is part of our future.

It would be so simple to designate this guernsey, within our official uniform, as a 'special use' or 'legacy' option for wearing when we want to celebrate something about our club.
Send it through every year to the AFL, force them to knock it back every year.
Send out a PR release every year explaining why.
Be relentless. Be ruthless.

Sell the guernsey each year from the club store, with a design element that denotes the times it's been knocked back.
Build a mythology around the fight for the right to wear the guernsey.
Get the supporter base to galvanise behind the fight.

We will never, ever, give up the bars.
Ever.

Narrator: They did.

Yea we should wear them I've changed my mind I was just thinking about it in an empty stadium aspect, I agree with Bomber though the PB's are not an all important issue for those running the club at present it wouldn't surprise me if Koch wears a teal onesie to bed.

So wear them now and show the future admin of the club we wanted them at every & any opportunity.

i think it would be a Sydney Kings onesie, the only Port merch in his house would be a dog collar or something

I've said elsewhere, but the club could easily do the following if they were serious:
All players train in the PB's not just the 'player of the week'
All media is done in PB's - coaches and players
Warm up's pre-match are done in PB's
Coaches and officials at games - in the PB's

Pretty much except for players during the games people would be in the PB's every time the camera is on a coach, player or official. The message would be clear very quickly to everyone this is our uniform, stop getting in our way.

Did we ever get the real story wrt that PB run out top we were supposedly going to wear pregame against Collingwood at the G? The ones that ended up at the Port Store a couple of years back (2017?).

I was told that they “weren’t delivered in time” for that game but that doesn’t explain why we didn’t wear them in other games or try again the following year if we were hell bent on throwing them in Collingwood’s face.

Feels like someone tried to be brave on this and then either blinked or got reigned in.

I don't have any inside info on this, but I would not be surprised if our CEO blinked with this.
