Opinion The PB's - a celebration of 150 years. This year or later?

Should we wear the Bars this year or wait until we play in front of a home crowd?

I need my kids to see that guernsey as much as possible. Once a year is a decent start...
The thing is, if we agree to these conditions there may not be any avenue to revisit down the track - you just know that McGuire will ensure there's iron clad clauses in there.

If Dwayne does have inside word and Eddie is pushing this scenario, it means the knows the case for Port to wear it is stronger than he is letting on in the media.

If that's the case, Port doesn't need to compromise. Get it for two games, one Showdown and one other of our choosing. Forget the Crows home showdown, go for Anzac Day or begin to plant the seed of wearing it when playing Freo in Adelaide. Later down the track, where it in WA against Freo.
Absolutely, if Eddie has conceded this, we’d be stupid to accept it!

This is the thing, Eddie has painted a picture that he needs to be satisfied with this agreement, when he's not even involved.
The presentation is to the AFL and it is to wear them in Showdowns in SA.
It does not involve Eddie. We've only involved him out of courtesy.

It's my opinion that he cannot insert conditions into an agreement that does not involve him or Collingwood.

We just need to say that our request doesn't impact or involve Collingwood in any way because we are using the previous agreement with the AFL regarding heritage rounds, so there is no need for any new agreements/contract to be put in place.

Out of interest, has anyone raised the issue of Cos Cardone's conflict of interest to the club?

At the very least a groundswell of discontent should give him notice that his Machievellian dealings are being closely watched.

It's definitely been noted on this board multiple times. It beggars belief really that he's CEO of McGuire's production co. and a director of our club.

Let's say that the worst case scenario happened, McGuire got his way and we got to wear it for one home match a year.

I wouldn't waste it on Adelaide until they actually came good again. You'd use it for a game that you thought was going to be tough to win, on a Friday or Saturday night for maximum exposure.

That's how you build momentum for wearing it full time. The more people see it, the more it becomes ingrained into the public consciousness.

I'd use it against the reigning premiers (or grand finalist) until we win the flag...then wear it against Adelaide to rub their noses in it.

I would wear against the Crows BECAUSE they are bad. If we keep crushing them, it creates a mindset; it builds on the legend.

The legend was built winning finals and grand finals though.

Adelaide is going to be dross for ten years. They’ve got to tear down their list before they even start to address the systemic problem they have, and they’ve still got most of them contracted for two years as it is.

No one remembers the Port games against South Adelaide. I just think if it’s something we can use to our advantage tactically on field as well as off.

Showdowns aren't Port-South. I'm not saying you are entirely wrong. I agree with your intention. I simply think that the first step would be trying to beat the hell of the Crows with it, before using it against other teams.

That’s not the worst case unfortunately.

It's not that special playing the Crows in my eyes I'd rather beat trad Victorian clubs to smithereens anyday wearing whatever I understand the angle though with the defunct Heritage round agreement.

why would we sign that! unless its got a time limit on it say for the next 5 years. Eddie wont be round forever, Gil wont be around forever etc
It's not ONLY in showdowns FOREVER. We can renegotiate later.

Hey Port, wear the prison bars in a Showdown or a big prime time game of your choice but don't you dare wear them against North Melbourne in the Sunday twilight game with 10 people in Melbourne watching or against Freo at Optus Stadium with literally nobody east of Mount Gambier watching.
