Part 4 is here:

BHP will only preference WA residents in some roles and not others. If it's a specialist role / trade role they will not make you move due to a lack of available candidates in WA.

I moved from WA because I don't really like the insular, uber parochial nature of the place. It was actually the 2nd time I have lived in WA and moved.

If you want a perfect example of WA, it is right now. McClown whipping the populace into a frenzy and the baying mob drinking the kool aid.

You really need to be emotionally detached from it to see it properly.

The amount of rubbish coming from McClown is amazing.

lol how often would this even come up in day-to-day life, let alone be so ubiquitous it causes you to leave the state? and it forced you to move to Victoria, a state every bit as insular and parochial? smells like bullshit.

I do agree on McGowan though, the hero worship is OTT

I comes up every single day, even more so now with what's going on, I don't even bother watching or reading the local news these days.

There were other reasons we left.

Looks like Perth is finally getting a university in the CBD. Look at us diversifying the economy and breathing life into the city center.

The building also looks quite impressive. Happy days.

the perth cbd is like a zombie apocalypse with meth heads

hopefully this brings new and vibrant feel to the city

At least a uni campus is something that will actually attract people for a purpose. Perth is pretty good at building expensive shiny things that don't achieve that.

Elizabeth Quay looks nice but outside the couple of weeks a year that the pop up bar is in place it's not exactly heaving. Yagan Square is much quieter than was sold to the stallholders inside who no doubt pay a motza to be there.

Perth people are pretty simple. Is there cheap food? Can I drink beer outside? Answer yes to those and you should draw a crowd.

Whilst I'm getting stuck into WA premiers, I can't believe Emperor McGowan has decided the hard border shut down will go through to March end.

I guess Health Advice can conveniently see an election 13 March 2021.
I hope we can hub in Adelaide next year.:oops: but in all honesty if come Christmas and all states bar WA allow people to travel freely and COVID is at a minimum, his approval will tank as quickly as it rose.

Im pretty sure that I read in here or elsewhere that he has extended the hard border until March
phase 5 is tentatively slated for 24th October and Phase 6 which is the hard border is subject to....

correct re March...........as the election is in March

Seperated from the rest of the nation for an entire year.

Reasons to go in and out of WA:
- Essential business
- Trade (air crew and truckies)
- Relocation
- Legal affairs
- Compassionate reasons (eg carer, funerals)

Reasons to not go in and out of WA:
- Tourism and other travel for pleasure

Think some need to realise the 'hard border' has plenty of exemptions. I can deal with a year or more of not being allowed to go to Melbourne for fun or to see family who don't need to be cared for.

The compassionate reasons one is bullshit, I know people who have been rejected entry into the state despite very reasonable compassionate grounds

why can't West Australians go to Tasmania, South Australia, or the South Island of New Zealand where there are basically 0 cases? I'm enjoying the pub too much to jeopardise it right now but sheesh, by December surely you open up. our hospitals aren't going to be suddenly flooded.

what's the government doing at the moment anyway? are they putting systems in place to protect the elderly and vulnerable? are hospitals being equipped for worst case scenarios? genuine questions here, maybe the ultra-negative news is keeping actual facts out again. but while things are going swimmingly we should be putting things in place to ensure we can open and deal with active coronavirus cases. ultimately that's what should be happening.

otherwise we're just being absolutely mental and waiting for the world to go down to 0 cases or some magical immunisation which may or may not happen.

we should be doing things behind the scenes to cope with another outbreak, to safeguard people and to make sure hospitals aren't overwhelmed and health care is well looked after. where are the ads for low level health care workers to even do things like data management and safe guarding in elderly estates?

nah, just looks like they're sitting on their hands waiting for... something.

it's a load of shit. start being proactive so we can actually be a national leader for once ffs. get things in place so we can have a mentality of 'yeah, okay, come in: we can deal with this.' we've had months to!

Mate how dare you question Supreme Leader McGowan's leadership.

Such as? My uncle wants to visit his first grand-child and was duly rejected - he's upset about that but let's be real here, that ain't a compelling reason.

In any event what about the other exemptions I cited?

You can question a lot of things and perhaps the hard border rules are a sledgehammer when all you need is a fly swatter, but as we've seen with this thing all you need is community spread and the economy shuts down again. We're going at virtually full tilt at the moment - why would we jeopardise that to satisfy some Queenslander with too much time and money and his army of loud self-proclaimed experts on social media?

Because it’s nazi Germany again 🤷‍♂️

I know of one case where a soon to be first-time mother had a compassionate grounds rejected. The request was for her mother in law to come from interstate, to assist her with the care of her and the child as she has no family here.

The circumstances are, the father died during the pregnancy. The mother had a complicated pregnancy losing 8kg (started at 55kg), required emergency surgery during the pregnancy to remove an organ and was told she may lose the child, lost the ability to walk due to tendons in the pubis becoming inflamed, has suffered depression in the first time in her life and is likely to require a cesarean resulting in further loss of mobility. Personally I feel this will end ugly for all.

And yet my niece was given permission to travel from SA to regional WA for her grandmothers funeral

she chose not to come in the end because of the quarantine requirements in both states at the time - would of been nearly a month of quarantine in the end

maybe it’s chook lotto or maybe we don’t get to hear the whole story

I have a feeling a lot of the stories of draconian refusal of compassionate grounds travel have left a few pertinent facts out.

If Power Raid's story really was completely true, the media would have an absolute field day with it.

yep and it will be a media issue

her application was rejected with the following requests:
- provide drivers licence, despite the original application just asking for a drivers licence number
- provide a letter of support - despite having letters from the surgeon, her obstetrician, GP and the psych

I was stunned her application was rejected and reviewed her application documents and the reason for rejection. I asked our company lawyer to write on her behalf and clarify what letter of support they require (a letter of support from a doctor? a letter of support from the mother in law saying she will support the daughter in law and child? or a letter of support from the daughter in law that she supported the application? or something else).

The response fro G2G and the WA cops were "we don't know". So if they don't know what they are asking for, who does?

The soon to be mother does not have the energy to go through the process due to health reasons, thus we will:
1) have the lawyers assist the mother in law and to be mother
2) have reached out to high ranking navy contacts to speak direct with McGowan
3) Threaten media attention

This is the issue of government, they abuse power and then hide behind incompetence or "we're doing the right thing". No they are not doing the right thing, they are putting their job and election campaign ahead of the rights of citizens and the welfare of citizens.

Had a friend move about a month ago (for work - non-essential), spent his two weeks quarantined at in-laws house (in-laws at holiday house) and that was it.
