You would have to be mad to enjoy this weather, one day of 40 is bad enough but we have about a week where it will be 40 or close to it, just awful weather.

I went on one of those Paddywagon tours which started off in Dublin and included a few days in Belfast and Northern Ireland, we didn't have too much trouble in Belfast but there was a town north of there where the kids threw rocks at our bus, apparently that happened just about every time they drove through there.
My wife and I did one of those black cab tours of Belfast and loved it.

Speaking with the driver and we mentioned that I am a protestant and my wife is a catholic (both non practicing) and he basically explained the trouble we would have if we lived there.

Fascinating place and I would love to visit again.

We did one of those black cab tours as well, the driver tried to spook us about how dangerous it was but we didn't have any trouble, it was early in the morning though, it was probably more dangerous at night.

The first night we were there we went to McDonald's and there was a wreath there, apparently someone had been gunned down there the previous night which was a bit disconcerting, we scoffed down our food and got the hell out of there.

How good is air con ;)
And a swimming pool.

My 2 not-negotiables for housing. I don't care about having a home theatre, or an ensuite, garage under the main roof or anything flash inside the house, an air-conditioned bedroom and a swimming pool are my only specs.

And I have both with a bonus only 300m from the beach so I'm a happy camper in Perth summer.

Bonus #2, 3 and 4 is a big TV in the outdoor area with a fully stocked beer fridge and plenty of Big Bash.

:cool::p

Swimming pools suck to maintain.

Cant say i love the smell of pool salt + doing that chemical test.

But i agree with the rest of your list

I do the pool maintenance in between swims, it doesn't bother me. We have a dolphin* cleaner so that helps. I love pouring the bag of salt onto the steps and then walking thru it. And I don't bother testing the water, I just take the sample bottle into the pool shop any time I think the water might not be quite right. After a few years you kind of get to know when it needs something.

* a Maytronics Dolphin cleaner not an actual cetacean

The best pools are other people's pools where you can just swim in them but don't have to worry about cleaning or maintenance.

The more pertinent question I feel is why on earth would you eat McDonald's when you're visiting a foreign country?

I do understand however if there are unique items for that particularly country's Maccas - but still...

It was late at night after we'd been to the pub and it was the only place open to get something to eat.

In which case acceptable. Even deader night cuisine scene than Perth then.

Didn’t Adelaide have 2 straight weeks of these temps last summer? You have some catching up to do 😉
I remember going to a Mates wedding in Adelaide about 20 years ago
We stayed a week and I believe it was a record for the most consecutive days over 40 degrees, 15 days straight if I recall.
Was horrible.

Fringe festival was on at the time so lucky I was drunk most of the week.

Solar panels.
Last power bill was $97 and that was with pool running between 6-8 hours a day.

Looking at putting these up at our place
Who did you use and did you have any issues as I hear that there are quite a few dodgy suppliers around

Transiting through an airport is the only acceptable time to eat Maccas in a foreign country.,

They were already on the place when we moved in. Was a huge factor.
They went up in 2012 I think the last owner's old receipt said.

I reckon it can be interesting to see what other countries offer. I remember Singapore having a cup of corn!

Iceland though - no McDonald’s in the entire country.

Why eat Maccas when you can eat whale and puffin? ;)
