I dunno what they can really do via trade that would help this year without giving up too much and being short sighted for the long term, as much as I am as frustrated as everyone else and bench production and creation is the clear issue outside of inexperience they still have to keep the long term in mind. Lou Williams is obv the one everyone wants but at this point he'd probably cost too much + it was reported yesterday he's in talks with the Clips for an extension, he's also a UFA this off-season and I'm very meh on giving up assets to to get him to get the 6 seed and have him leave in the off-season anyway.

I don't think we're going to do much at the deadline, maybe something small to try and get a bit of bench production or pay someone to take Bayless' contract for an expiring so we have an extra 11mil in the offseason and instead be big players in free agency. It's why getting Fultz back and reintegrated has to be a huge priority, not just for his own sake but we need to see how he can mesh with Ben and Jo to see how we want to spend the 30mil+ (maybe more pending the Bayless deal) we'll have to spend in FA.

Biggest off season priorities atm for me would be to get another starting caliber guard, re-sign Redick on the cheap (hopefully there's already a wink wink handshake agreement in place that's why we overpaid so much this year), bring Boldon over and also get a legit back up 5.

The problem is, while we have max space available it's hard to see from this list http://hoopshype.com/2018/01/11/nba-free-agency-2018-the-top-players/ who would be worth throwing that at, besides the obvious like Lebron I dunno who I'd be comfortable giving like 20mil+ over 4 or 5 years too. Not sure I want any part of Avery Bradley who I think is the guy they will target as he makes a lot of sense given his player archetype and what we already have.

I wouldn't be getting players to "help" win this season other than trying to find a better back-up 5 to play the games Embiid misses.

A trade to bring in a guy like Dwayne Dedmon would be fine if we can offload Bayless.

Lavine, parker or tyreke?...obvs all three have injury concerns but we may want to take a punt on one of them if they are avail.
Lavine and Parker are both RFA's and likely get matched, Parker less so if he comes back and plays bad but given that Lavine was a big part of the Jimmy Butler trade I'd assume they would match anything on a Lavine offer. I'm just not a big Jabari guy in general as well and don't really like how he'd fit. Tyreke is the interesting one, he's been great and certainly fits a huge need, be interesting to see who throws money at him, he should get a few offers.

Yeah I like Dedmon, too. Kinda frustrating that we ended up with Amir when you consider how cheap the Celtics got Baynes for on a multi year deal.

Every trade Colangelo has done has been for the short-term, to stroke his ego even if just for a minute. You could argue that he's still maintained cap flexibility, but he overpaid on Bayless and Amir whilst trading a younger developmental player, Stauskas, at a position of need.

I wouldn't be surprised to be see something happen, but would be weary of it looking like the Booker trade - experienced vet, net positive defender, sounds good on paper but once the initial shine wears off the lack of spacing (amongst a collection of other bigs that can't shoot) makes him near unplayable in most situations.

The worst part of this, is that the biggest upgrade they could have done over the offseason, aside from signing LeBron or George, would be to have a full swing at the upcoming draft with the Lakers pick. Doncic has been on the cards for a while, but Trae Young is going off atm, and having the two as potential picks is the kinda optionality Hinkie preached (and why you'd don't need to hedge everything on Embiid being healthy). Could still happen but increasingly likely that they both won't be available at 6+ (mind you if we land in the 6-8 range, we could still land a really good player).

Havent posted in here for a long time :D

I reckon we have a good chance of the Lakers pick conveying. Would be awesome if we can pull a Dallas and get a DSJ. Trae or Doncic could slip but considering they're the best guards I doubt it. Think I'd cream if we get Porter.

After watching us all these years, I'm pretty happy at where we are at the moment. Despite half of the East stars moving West, I reckon the East has actually gotten stronger. Indiana/Detroit will be tough teams to knockout. However, I dont know how much longer I can bare watching terrible 3rd quarters, turnovers and blowing 20 point leads in a couple of minutes......

Anyone have any thoughts as to whether recent free agent signing James Young will make it as an NBA player, either with the Sixers or elsewhere?

He was a top-10 high school prospect in 2013 as a bottom-ager, and was rated by many as a lottery talent after his Freshman year at Kentucky (eventually went at #17 in the 2014 NBA Draft), but really did nothing in his three years with the Celtics (averaged 2.3 ppg in 8.4 mpg over 89 regular season games, with numerous stints in the G-League). Is still only 22 years old, and has looked good in the G-League this year (22.3 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.4 spg, .443/.373/.765 shooting).

Brett Brown said what fultz needs to do is be able to shoot the basketball.. this is unbelievable how poor our organisation has handled this.. I thought the low was letting embiid play after tearing his meniscus last year however this fultz situation takes the cake.. This could cost Brown and Colangelo their jobs and maybe should.. I just cannot believe we are this poorly run

Why should it cost Brown his job? There's probably no other coach I'd rather want helping a 19-year-old kid through his struggles.

I won't blame Colagnelo for all of this either, but hindsight logic will tell you that it was questionable that the only player that they worked during the draft was Monk and Fultz, and Fultz didn't set the house on fire in that performance, and was it that necessary to trade a top 6 pick to move two spots in the draft, instead of either forcing Boston to take Tatum at 1, taking Tatum themselves at 3, or moving down and getting DSJ.

Regardless, if the only thing that came out of this was that Colangelo and his snake of a father getting the axe (they won't), then I'd be shamelessly content.

This is pretty salient, considering I don't think anyone with reasonable expectations would have pegged this team anymore than 37-40 wins on the year, and probably a playoff spot based on a poor East.

We're on track for achieving that record, but maybe not the playoffs because of how well it's performed relative to expectations. I look at the Timberwolves as the right kind of trajectory that you'd want to see us emulate next season. And they are essentially two years ahead in their development.

I don’t know whether it should or shouldn’t cost Brown his job but surely the coaching staff has some impact in development.. surely if a player has completely lost the ability to confidently shoot the basketball from mid range and beyond, someone is at fault..

We cannot just think that these sort of things happen to every team.. They don’t.. Someone should be at blame for this and take the sword.. At the moment the spin I am hearing is colangelo blaming fultz for changing his shot and trying to snake out of any blame (to maintain his credibility lol) and Brown telling the media we are working through things, before today saying I will wait until he can shoot a ball before he plays..

As far as I’m concerned this shit doesn’t happen with well run franchises.. the 2 most important people to run our franchise are colangelo and brown.. if you pass blame off both of them then you are aiming at less important mid level facilitators

Gotta look at this more logically man. Like what actually happened, or at least what's the most reasonable explanation of what took place.

SL finished, off-season began and Fultz and his 'team' look at the shot and thought it needed improving. It didn't, but you could see how at being only a 65% free-throw shooter, one might think it needs some tweaking. It's ultimately ****ed, they can see it's only making it worse and they try to revert back to his old stuff, and he just can't. He develops this hitch, his shoulder starts hurting etc.

He gets to training camp, and everyone from coaches to front office is shocked. They are all oblivious to this because why would they not be. Stopping short of sequestering him, they can't have eyes on him 24/7 when he's working out in Washington or Maryland. (And there might also be league rules in place where players can't work out with team coaches in the off-season).

Everything from there, the spin, the agent, cortisone shots, is just another poorly handled PR disaster, but it doesn't have any correlation to Fultz's jumper mechanics. This is to say that Fultz could have been taken by any other team, and the same scenario would have played out because the circumstances were out of a team's control.

I think Colangelo should get his ass thrown out, but that's because of a series of poor to questionable choices, and hasn't show any aptitude for being anything more than a middling GM. Not because Fultz decided to change to his jumper.

JJ is out for a couple of weeks. :(
