If sonny played four quarters we would have won. Fight me on it. Or as this is the positivity thread - out complement me on it. That way everybody wins
Absolutely spot on. This is the most outrageous thing about last nights coaching/selection effort.
I’d go so far to say if he came on at Half time we would have won.

Here’s an unexpected positive - we actually climbed the ladder this week.

Sonny turned it on in the 2nd half of 22'. Given how Round 1 went and how the North game was going he was rightfully missed and needed to get something going.

We've definitely been in far far worse holes, even with the lack of picks this year at least there's lots of young talent to bring in, Noddy, MJ, Ras, hopefully Sebit long term, not to mention the development left in young the list overall.

Need a couple of explosive big bodied mids, and some decent forwards, some of whom are hopefully already on the list. Time is on our side for now, which I don't think has ever been the case. 06 era and 13 era were small windows, but the list looks capable of long term success, with the right list management Admittedly not a great strength of the club :straining:

Biggest problem right now though is the hot garbage game plan, J-Slow better adapt quick or he needs the boot soon and we desperately need to nail the choice of a modern attacking coach. Coaching selections also being another noted strength of ours haha

The list is definitely one that an outsider would look at with excitement

Would they? I’d say we’re two Key forwards, two elite young small forwards, two good medium forwards, and an elite extracting midfielder short.

until Amiss, Johnson and Erasmus come on thats a significant list of shortcomings

I'm normally good at bringing out positives from bad situations but this is tough.

Ordinarily I'd focus on the stronger draft hand and better draw for 2024 to have an assault next year when the team is 12 months older. Without our draft picks this is hard to spin. However.....

We played against two teams that are very well coached and are improvers. Look at the Saints smashing the Bulldogs this weekend. As someone pointed out, I also think our style of play and midfield will benefit once games slow down (although it's not a good sign for finals football).

There's a huge amount to learn from the first two weeks. How we move the ball forward and our midfield set-up. Although I'm not convinced with Jlo, he was more impressive in his presser on Saturday when the chips were down. He's a hard worker and I hope he changes things in a pragmatic approach.

I would like us to be competitive this year but also use it as a good opportunity to blood more youth (which may not have happened if we're in the top 6 mix). Amiss and Henry to continue to play for the rest of the season, and games pumped to Earsmus and Johnson, and Treacy and Sturt. I'd be happy with a competitive end to the season. Finish in the 8-11th mark and go again next year with a better draw and an improved gameplan.

Don Pyke is available and can be grabbed ahead of the Eagles. Amazing CV except for the Collective Mind appointment at Adelaide and disastrous camp - but he’ll have learned from that. Looks to have played a major role in the Sydney turn around too.
I’d still keep JLo and have Pyke director of coaching.

Recency bias. We’ve simply got to remove the off season training stain where we drank our own bath water e.g. Brodie is still a fine extracting mid - but not in the last 2 games.

I still have faith in our list.

Being the positivity thread I think your harsh. As grim as it feels, we did finish 5th last year. I’d say list wise, one bigger mid (MJ or Ras), one proper key forward on top of Amiss and one elite medium or small forward and I’d be ecstatic with our list

Two gun forwards with experience and genuine natural smarts would make a hell of a difference - look at Walters coming on on Saturday

I think a lot of our issues from these two weeks are gameplan based

I'm hanging in there.

Good point regarding pace when it comes to finals play.

There were good signs right at the end (obviously). I like the idea of throwing a few curveballs like that within the mix and maybe building on it.

Walters, Freddy, Switta, Schultz all had great games

Jackson showed a lot more with a few nice grabs and a couple of goals. I'm sure he will be happy to get away from the toxic WA media for a couple of games. Props to Max Gawn for going in to bat for his old mate

3rd best defence in the league and a decent percentage going in to a couple of winnable games on the road before the dogs at home
