I have heard her on a interview as saying that playing the Vera Bennett character was very emotionally draining and that's why she decided to leave. In real life, Fiona Spence seems like a very nice person, and a complete contrast to Vinegar ****.
More than likely. :) And yes, it would certainly have been a challenging role so that makes sense. Plus she would have probably copped a bit of crap for it from some people.

Had the privilege of seeing her at Prisoners 30th anniversary celebrations in 2009, and you are spot on. While all the actors were great, Fiona was one of the nicest actors at the party, and was basically dragged back to the bus when she had to leave (the Sydney-based actors had to leave early to return to Sydney) because she didn't want to stop chatting with the fans.

The stone the flamin crows she popped up in a little show called Home and Away a couple of years later (can't remember when it started) as Morag and Alf's sister, Cecilia. Strewth!!:D A whole family of Rangas. :D

Home and Away started in 1988 - and Celia was pretty much the polar opposite of Vera!

I could just imagine how some morons would have treated her when she was in Prisoner thinking Vera was her. Poor woman. But she left the show with a great legacy.

Amanda Muggleton, in her interview that's on the DVD release, mentions that once a couple of cops attempted to arrest her thinking Chrissie had escaped!

Cracked a chuckle tonight. 53 cents for a litre of milk when Lizzie goes to the shop and was I hearing right, Five dollars for all those sangers, with change. :D:D

You get the opposite later in the series when someone wants to buy a plane ticket from Melbourne to Sydney and it's $250 one way!

Ah, the days of yore.

So this is the infamous episode where Lizzie utters the 'N' word; Oh how old phrases have changed over time. Imagine the studio switchboards going into meltdown if she said it now.

Imagine Lizzie in today's society...

If her character was on a current TV show the papers would be full of stories on the PC groups complaining about words she uses. That's what's great about old TV shows - things that these days are considered wrong to say today were fine back then.

And yet you have wild shootouts and gang warfare on teeny soaps with a PG rating

The PC crowd have ALOT to answer for
