See this is unfair. Surely has to be an element of a disputed zone. Same thing happened to me the other night where a car slowed down to 20km/h I went past (didn't exceed limit) and the lights went orange about 10 metres from the intersection. Now I could hit the brakes, screech to a halt leaving me in the middle of the interersection or go through. Red came on just as I passed the second set of lights and it is one of those I may have been flashed. (Think I was). Would be pi**( if so and may be a challenge.

I do this all the time and in fact thought it was pretty much what I was taught during driving lessons. If you have to slam the brakes to stop before the line, then don't, continue on.

A thread for all those questions you want answered, but don't want to make a thread about it.

I'll start it off, what is enlightenment?

Realising who you truly are without identifying with your thoughts.

Someone asked me this the other day to which embarrassingly I didn't have an answer to

When you go to the airport before a flight (both domestic or international), what do you have to do exactly?
I assume you don't just waltz onto the plane 5 min before arrival!

You're not serious?

Are you a "better" person if you do things for others? (charity, letting elderly sit down, ladies first etc). Where is it written (other than the bible) that this kind of stuff makes you a "good" person.

Because we are more naturally inclined to be selfish and look after only ourselves.

So it is considered more of an effort to be a giving person.

you know those NFL documentaries (and probably other american sports but i only follow the NHL and don't really watch any doco's on it) and there is sound of all the blokes talking on the sidelines... where are the mic's that capture that? the sound is so crisp with no background sound. it's as if every player is miced up? maybe i've just answered my own question.

Usually there's a guy from NFL Films covering the sideline action as well as the host broadcaster's people. Adjust in the edit suite for clarity etc...Most action on the field (particularly when the home team is on offense) is audible, how else could Payton Manning changing the play with the "Omaha" call be such a story?

Parabolic dish reflects the sound to a microphone set in the middle. Very directional, point it at the person in question and it amplifies their speech while cutting out the rest.

They tried it in cricket in the late 80s. Infamously they caught Allan Border telling Craig McDermott to improve his bowling or he'd be on the next plane home. I think McDermott was later diagnosed with a serious medical condition - twisted bowel or something - so no wonder he wasn't feeling right.

Seemed to be a bit invasive for cricket so they dropped the use of it. But they still use it in the US.

Awesome. Never heard of those before (not used in this sense, obviously seen them as big microwave dishes). Has always intrigued me cause I've always thought they must have a ****ing microphone every 5 metres along the sideline or something to get such clarity of sound.

I knew there had been a change in microphone placement in the last season or two which is why QB's onfield calls (parituclarly Peyton) are getting much more attention.

How does one go about tracking down a book that is (a couple of years) out of print? Tried a bunch of websites and searches to no avail and the only place which seems to have copies are specialist libraries which require appointments for viewings. It's by an Australian author if that makes a difference. Is there a particular bookshop or person I could contact to see if they could find me a copy? Not too fussed about how much it will end up costing me.

Try contacting the publisher. May not be able to give you a copy but they could possibly point you in the right direction.

Is it illegal to do a u-turn on a freeway?

My understanding is that unless it is signed that a U turn is permitted, then ANY U-Turn at any intersection or any part of road is illegal (if you get caught of course), so I would imagine a U-Turn on a freeway would also be illegal. Either that or the driver has a death wish wanting to cut off a 15 tonne semi after chucking a U'ie.

^ thats not correct. You can do a u-turn at any gap in the median strip unless signed as "no right turn" or "no u turn" or if there is a solid white line dividing the two sides of the road.

A freeway is a different beast tho - it is illegal to do u-turns on them except for emergency vehicles, NRMA/RAC etc. However theres never any need to do one except if a crash is blocking the road. Otherwise just use the next interchange

Tried both the publisher and the distributer and they both said they didn't really know how to get a hold of any copies. Are there any specialist second hand bookshops where you can request titles for them to find that people know of?
