Thinking of taking my 12 year old son to Tokyo for 10 days at the end of the month. I haven't been before. Any tips?
I'm going in August too. Tokyo is mostly about just checking out different neighbourhoods. Depending on age the Ghibli museum, Tokyo Disney, shopping, lots of tourist things. A friend said to check out teamLab Planets, haven't tried it but meant to be awesome.
If you've got 10 days go on a trip somewhere too. Hokone is good. Has a huge sculpture park, can ride tourist pirate ships and you get to it by a weird train. It's a very Japanese experience. Lots of traditional onsens and shit there too. Few hours by Shinkansen from Tokyo.

Actually check out Harajuku, they have a park full of dancing rockabillies.
You'll probably die of joy in Ochanomizu guitar street. Guitars are really good value. You'll probably end up buying a few.
Fully endorse what others have said. TeamLab is a must. Timed-entry so book a few days before you go. Rockers in Yoyogi Park in Harajuku on Sundays. Good fun free entertainment. Have a look at the Suica Card. You can load it onto your phone and pay for the subway which is a great way to get around Tokyo. Easy to top up online and if there is anything left on it you can spend it in the convenience stores at the airport. Google maps has fantastic public transport integration. Tells you which exit and even which carriage to be near the correct exit.Thinking of taking my 12 year old son to Tokyo for 10 days at the end of the month. I haven't been before. Any tips?
Grab yourself a nice Gretsch while you're over there.I know rockabilly is huge in Japan. They love some stray cats etc.
Yeah I'll hit a few guitar shops. Don't want to bore my son too much but I can't go there without checking out some guitars.

Yeah to be honest I think that's the only thing that would tempt me. I have a really cool Grestch, a 6120 Brian Setzer Smoke model, fantastic guitar but I could be tempted by the right Jet. I freakin' love Gretsch guitars.
I'm really into old Harmony and Silvertones at the moment. Ones with Gold Foil pickups. Not sure if they're a thing in the vintage Japanese guitar market. I'm sure they'd have heaps of teiscos etc
Some of the Japanese made acoustics could maybe tempt me too. Their vintage lawsuit Martins etc are supposedly great guitars.

Is there much difference between the different Disney's?
My Wife and I went to the original back in the day, and she later went to Euro Disney and said it didn't strike her as significantly different?
I'd have thought that Tokyo would be one of the more expensive ways to experience it.
Only been to Tokyo Disney. It looks the same thing with the same rides but if it is they are all boring.
Still remember ( and its been a long time ), the food in the California one being just horrible.
Worst nacho's i ever had, they hand you a bag of CC's only without flavor, ( just plain corn chips in a paper bag ) and give a medium squirt with some sort of cheesy stuff out of a bottle like a tomato sauce bottle. I'm staring at it thinking ," i wouldn't have called this nachos".
They had all these different themed food places, but all of them had the same food. Like the "backwards bear mountain crap in the forest burger" , was the same as the "super pirate avast ye lubbers arrrghh burger".
Ok i might have forgotten the names.
At the one in Anaheim back in 2007 around midday and it was like some bell had gone off signalling lunchtime. Suddenly hundreds of people of all ages, sexes and races are walking around munching on giant turkey legs. Quite raw looking turkey legs at that.
It was like they were extras from a Flintstones movie.
Immediately lost our appetites.

I've only been to the one in Paris. Took my kids 6 years ago. They were 5 and 7. One of the greatest times of my life.
I don't think we'll go to the one in Tokyo. I doubt my son would be interested.
Nah Tokyo Disney is the cream of the crop and the Japanese punters are unreal. If you can do both Disney and Disney sea are great. Is there much difference between the different Disney's?

At this point in time you can't buy a normal Suica Card. You can get a Welcome Suica however.Thinking of taking my 12 year old son to Tokyo for 10 days at the end of the month. I haven't been before. Any tips?
