Team Analysis

1st Warriors 8-2

warriorsrunhome.png
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 2
A win against the Demons means the Warriors are playing finals this season. TheInjuryFactory would be thrilled with the effort put forth thus far by the entire team. Just 2 more wins are needed to get a double chance during finals which will be vital to help them on their path to their maiden premiership.

Next up is three home games in a row against teams that are desperately seeking wins to qualify for finals. Book your tickets in for the round 17 clash against the Bombers. It will likely be a fight for top spot and possibly a preview of potential grand finalists.

Likely finish: 1st

2nd Bombers 7-3

bombersrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 1
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 3

Just one more win and Bombers can forget about holidays this finals season. Their next two games against the bottom two teams on the ladder should be easy going then five games against tough opposition to finish the season. With teams just below them all losing this week they are now one and a half games clear of 3rd place Wonders.

Likely finish: 2nd

3rd Wonders 5-4-1

wondershomerun.png
Wins needed to play finals: 2
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 5

Two losses in a row for the Wonders and now games are going to get much tougher. Their next three are against the reigning premiers (Royals), highest scoring team this season (Demons), and 2nd place Bombers in away games. Lose all three of those games and even a top 8 finish would be difficult to achieve.

Likely finish: 6th

4th Swamprats 5-4-1

swampratsrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 2
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 5

Swamprats move up to fourth after a fantastic win against Roys. Their next three games against top 8 opposition will determine whether they have what it takes to finish in the top 4 at the end of the home and away season. philreich will be pleased that their next three are all at home so the rats faithful can cheer them on to victory.

Likely finish: 3rd

5th Demons 5-5

demonsrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 2
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 5

A loss to the ladder leading Warriors isn't the end of the world as the Demons still have a very healthy percentage that should help them through to finals. Next weeks game against the Swamprats is very important for both teams as the winning team will almost surely go on to finish in the top 4.

Likely finish: 4th

6th Dragons 5-5

dragonsrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 2
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 5

Beating the Hawks was a necessity if they are to play finals and they achieved that. Now they face the Warriors away in what is possibly the hardest game you could possibly have. Dragons have a relatively healthy percentage and should at least win against the Furies (12th) and Bears (10th) to qualify for finals. The question is whether they win against the tougher opposition and move further up the ladder.

Likely finish: 7th

7th Royals 5-5
royalsrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 2
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 5

Three wins on the trot and the Royals are storming their way into finals. After a shaky first half of the season the reigning premiers are finally back in form and look to be climbing the ladder late in the season. The Filth Wizard and co will be wanting to continue this form for the next fortnight as they play against the 3rd placed Wonders and 1st placed Warriors.

Likely finish: 5th

8th Gumbies 5-5
gumbiesrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 3
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 6

A stunning victory over the Wonders sees the Gumbies sneak their way into the top 8. A lowish percentage means the Gumbies will likely need to win more games than their competitors to qualify for finals, but they are definitely in the hunt. With games against the Warriors (1st) and Bombers (2nd) still to come, Barrybran and co will need to be on their A game.

Likely finish: 9th

9th Roys 5-5
roysrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 3
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 6

A loss to the Swamprats now puts Roys back in the pack and currently just outside the top 8 on percentage. Next weeks game against the Gumbies will be huge, win and top 8 is highly likely, lose and the top 8 might just be out of reach for either of those teams. Winnable games against Bears and Hawks should give Roys a chance to qualify for finals. It might come down to whether they are able to beat one of the more difficult opponents, and we know they've done it before.

Likely finish: 8th

10th Bears 4-6
bearsrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 4
Wins needed for top 4 finish: 7

Losing to the Bombers has now put the Bears behind the 8 ball. A lowish percentage means they have to be near perfect from here to qualify. This weeks game against the Hawks is a must win. With Hawks, Furies and Roys (all bottom 4 teams) games still to play the Bears can still hang onto hope of making finals if they win all of those and one more against a top 8 team.

Likely finish: 10th

11th Hawks 3-7
hawksrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 5

Losing to the Dragons means they can no longer finish in the top 4. With the worst percentage in the league, the Hawks will be desperate to get back on the winners list this week. Agent93 and Chipmunk will hope this weeks game against the Bears is a reset for the team and a chance to impress in front of their home supporters.

Likely finish: 11th

12th Furies 2-8
furiesrunhome.png
Wins needed to play finals: 6

Another loss to the Furies and they can just about start planning their holidays at the conclusion of the home and away season. They would need to be perfect from here to have a chance at playing finals and it just doesn't seem likely. Games against Bombers (2nd) and Warriors (1st) will probably end their very slim hopes. Tigerturbulance has his work cut out for him next season to try and improve on this position.

Likely finish: 12th

I liked the bit where you said the Warriors are playing finals this season 🧡

This is the tightest season since that season that was really, really tight. With half a win separating 3rd and 9th, I reckon you'd have more luck guessing this week's lotto numbers, than you would predicting final ladder positions.

Yep thats why I didn't put the finals chances of teams in this week because 3rd through to 9th are all pretty much the same chance of making finals. Demons have slightly higher chance because of their massive percentage, but all the others are neck and neck.

Bonus - Race for the Wooden Spoon
Race for the Wooden Spoon
woodenspoonrace.png *
7 rounds left and the race for the wooden spoon is heating up. Three teams with the highest possible chances of grabbing the spoon but only one can take it. Furies are in the best position to take it with only 2 wins to their name, but Hawks do have the worst percentage and with the round 13 clash between the two bottom teams looming it could decide who takes it. For the Bears to take it they would have to lose to the Hawks this week, then also lose to the Furies in the last round, and even then they would still be one win in front of Furies if both teams lose every other game. It would be truly something if the Bears go on to win the wooden spoon from here.
*Technically Roys or Gumbies could still get the wooden spoon, but it is so unlikely that it is almost impossible.

Who do you think will win it?

Yes but you have to lose this week to the Bears.

I'm surprised it wasn't match of the round, it's the Carlton v Gold Coast of the SFA.

No, neither of us are North. That honour is reserved for the Furies.

To the Furies' credit on the weekend - unlike North, they didn't increase their percentage by 8%, despite losing by 7 goals :).
