Got a txt from a mate this morning: 'I was listening to SEN this morning when this idiot Jim from Hawthorn called saying that Lloydy intended to go out of his way to bump Sewell'. He's a Dons fanatic, btw.

Basically got a Jim from Hawthorn watch going on here. :p

Prefer to have Eddie there cos the two main hosts are pathetic.

Watson didn't argue with Jeff Kennett's suggestion that an incident in the Bulldogs Collingwood game would cause them to be rubbed out.

Waited a good half an hour during his Watto's Waste segment to criticise his point.

Reminds me of George Costanza's Jerk Store comeback on the drive home.

Yeah, it often goes something like this: :p

Eddie: "blah blah blah", for 5 mins.
Tim: "Yes, but I what if....."
Eddie, butting in: "No, wait, let me say this..."
Tim: "Can you let me say what I was gunna say?"
Eddie: "I know what you were gunna say, and here's my answer to that."
Tim: "How you know what I was gunna......"
Eddie, butting again: "I just know what you were gunna say, so let me say this: blah blah blah", for another 5 mins :D

Hungry For Essendon v Hawthorn Fan Angst

Jim from Hawthorn:
Good morning, Gentlemen. First of all, ah, I’ve already heard Clarkson on this morning, he was on, and he basically apologized for what he said, and uh, uh, as far as Campbell Brown and havin’-uh-go it was in the light of the day, it was after a match that they’d lost. Their harkels were up because, ah, Cyril got rubbed out. And on that one, I was there sitting right in the middle, and , he was flying the flag, Lloyd. He went straight for him, it probably didn’t mean to happen in the head. But he lined him up and took him out. That was his intention because Essendon always the same, every time they’re playing Hawthorn, do as well, they were behind, and they were told at the half-time, either by the captain or the coach to go out there and go for the man, not the ball, and rough Hawthorn up and get over the top of them and that’s what they did.
[Bold emphasis added to highlight Jim’s half-time “exclusive” from the Essendon rooms]

(KB muses this may be a reverse "line in the sand" game?)
Monday Morning Curmudgeon, Putz Smith, rallies to the challenge: “That’s one of the stains in AFL history is the line in the sands(sic) game. Um, that’s an embarrassment to all people that follow AFL. […] I read the book. It’s a MYTH. They’ve built it up into some mythical happening in the club. No. Dermott Brereton went in there and said ‘boys,’ or said to Ritchie Vandenberg, ‘go out there and do something.’ Well, that’s just incited a riot, Kevin. So I don’t think that’s anything to be proud of.”

Pete from Preston - sounding very much like Tommy Raudonikis - states four things about Mr. Lloyd:
Yeah, G’day boys. Look, I, I, want to just say one thing about Matthew Lloyd. He shouldn’t of played. He was on one leg and he thought well I’m gonna go out in a blaze of glory. I’m gonna get something happening at half-time, I’m gonna take somebody out and give my team a chance to make the finals. But it’s all good ’cause he’s goin’ to Afghanistan next week as a sniper. (That’s gold, Jerry. Gold!)
[Bold emphasis added to highlight Pete’s “exclusive” from inside Mathew Lloyd’s head]
Putz: “That’s a ridiculous comment.”

Joe from Moorabbin:
Two things, First about Campbell Brown… Brown was an embarrassment to the game and even during the game. He was huffing and puffing and pointing fingers but it took Chance Bateman who’s about six inches shorter than Lloyd and about three stone lighter, to do the exacting of the retribution. Brown should remember Leigh Mathews saying, “ never explain, never complain.” He just should’ve shut up.

Lucas from Eltham:
Putz, I agree with you first off, there should be an apology from Campbell Brown to those defamatory comments about Mathew Lloyd who’s not just not a fellow player but, really, Campbell Brown’s career is not really a patch on Mathew Lloyd’s do fat.
Um, secondly, in regard to the bump, I’m finding it a bit hard to believe how people have just been whipped into a frenzy with this idea that Lloyd has gone out and sort to knockout a Hawthorn player. … Anyone who’s thinking along the lines of Lloyd’s gone out to harm anyone, or, gone out to beat up Hawthorn is just kidding themselves.
KB: Quite incredible the outburst by Campbell Brown
Putz: Well, incredible, Kevin, from a bloke who is a sniper himself in the sense that he clocked Winderlich when Winderlich was being taken off by the trainer.

[The Brown comments from Triple M are played]

Putz: That’s juvenile nonsense.
KB: I agree

Greg from Preston:
I just wanted to comment on the Hawthorn thing. It’s a bit ridiculous Alastair Clarkson having a crack at Lloyd. I seem to remember him breaking Ian Aitken’s jaw in London many years ago. And that was probably one of the biggest dog acts you’ve ever seen in football. Hawthorn got what they’ve been dishing out over the last year and a half and they just didn’t like it.
Putzy: Nah, Greg, they’ve done themselves no favours whatsoever. They’ve acted poorly in defeat and there’s nothing worse than people who can’t handle defeat.

Kim from Heidelberg:
Two things. One to do with Jeff Kennett. Is he going to be quiet any time soon? I thought he wasn’t going to say anything. … I’m sick of hearing from him.
KB: Well he changed his mind in that. He’s on the record as saying- He did say that originally… He decided there was the need for a spokesperson so he anointed himself.
Putz: Cappuccino Kennett!

Putz’s Corner:
Guus of the Week: Carlton F.C. for suspending three players just a week away from the finals. Showed that Carlton is a legitimate football club again.
Goose of the Week: Australian Jockeys Association for claiming occupational health and safety issues because jockeys have to count to three while they’re also riding a horse. “I would think that’s the equivalent, Kevin, to being able to chew gum and walk at the same time. It is an absolute embarrassment in our modern community that people are lining up and asking for the right to belt horses more than the laws allow. I think it is a humiliation to us.

Pat from Maribyrnong:
Look I can’t believe people are comparing The “Buddy” Franklin and Mathew Lloyd incidents. Mathew Lloyd had no contribution to the game other than to take out one of Hawthorn’s play-makers. That’s his soul contribution to the game… Buddy Franklin - the game was over, Hawthorn had it in the bag, it was just the aggression towards the man and the ball that Hawthorn are famous for, but Mathew Lloyd’s act was just a dog’s act. There’s a reason that he’s called the Velvet Sledgehammer, and it’s fitting that he should end his career being remembered for the dog act that he did on the weekend.
(Now, that’s more like it from a Mathews and Dipierdeminico fan base)
lethal_bruns_wideweb__470x352,0.jpg

[Bold emphasis and pic added for Hawks fan’s pissa critique ] The Hawk in the middle is Colin Robertson, most remembered in Essendon-Hawthorn lore, for extricating Timmy Watson’s front teeth. Hawks v Dons - Ouch.

Peter from Balwyn:
Um, I was Subiaco Oval last year for the International Rules series and saw Campbell Brown take out an Irish kid who wasn’t even expecting physical contact in the head... Knocked him for six. So Campbell Brown to be talking about Mathew Lloyd being a sniper would be the ultimate in hypocrisy. Have a look at that footage of that International Rules incident.
KB: I can remember the International Rules and the incidents. We took full advantage of the fact the poor Irishmen didn’t expect contact…I criticized it harshly at the time…
Putz: They’re not football matches, Kevin, they’re hunting trips.

Ian from Frankston:
Now I’m a Hawthorn supporter but I really think if anyone spoke to Campbell this morning I think he may explain his vocabulary a little bit differently to the way he approached it on Saturday. At the end of the day there’s only going to be one group that will be tarnished by this and that be the Hawthorn football club as a whole. I think the remarks by Campbell, and Jeff, were maybe tongue in cheek and maybe Alastair’s actions after the game-
KB: Jeff’s comments must be tongue in cheek. I think Campbell was fired up after the game… obviously Alastair Clarkson, I think he’s apologised this morning for his-
Putz: Did he apologize, Kevin?
KB: Well did the boys suggest that there was some sort of apology on Morning Glory.
Putz: I think they were looking for an apology and didn’t get one.

Chris from Box Hill:
As a Hawthorn supporter I’ll try and give as unbiased view as I can. I believe Campbell brown’s veiled threat is unacceptable. I don’t think for a second Lloyds went for head-high contact. But I do believe he’ extremely(!) reckless as a player. And if you look over his history as a player there is a reason the kids in front of me called him chicken wings. … I think the anger is directed - it is isolated at Mathew Lloyd and not Essendon as a whole. There has been a huge history of Lloyd incidents… littered with elbows in the past.
KB: He’s played a lot of football, Mathew Lloyd, and he’s a very, very big unit. And he’s probably been in a couple of collisions in his time but when you‘ve played the amount of games he‘s played and the physical size of him -
Chiming Putz: They were hard leads!
KB: But to call him a sniper was pretty poor.
Chiming Putz: Ohhh, silly!

[The Clarkson comments from the Morning Glory show are played]

KB: Ah yes, no apology there from Alastair Clarkson-
Putz: Absolutely not!
(The grab from the Morning Glory show indicates what Jim from Hawthorn actually hears doesn’t necessarily mesh with what he wants to believe, and thus, has brought the world of talkback callers into disrepute)

Michael for Pakenham:
I just can’t believe how pathetic the majority - maybe not majority but half the Hawthorn supporters are - they whinge and moan and point the finger of how proud they are about this line in the sand game. They didn’t even win that game first of all, and they’re proud of the fact of how hard they came out and how tough a team they are. When someone else does it to them they want to point the finger and say how bad they are
Putz: Yeah, well, as I said before, that “line in the sand” game is a MYTH. They use it as justification for the carnage that followed. But it is a myth. It didn’t turn the club around at all. Just got a lot of people suspended with sore knuckles.

Nick from Berwick:
Just to that Michael guy before I say what I want to say. We do pride ourselves - I am a Hawthorn supporter and we do pride ourselves on being hard - we go hard at the footy and let me know last time, apart from Franklin last week, let me know the last time that someone’s actually knocked out a player.

Diane from Bacchus Marsh:
First of all I think Lloyd should go on and play next year. We have won games without him… Yeah, Sewell went down for the ball - fine, and he should get pinged for it, but by the time Lloyd actually got to him he was actually going up and I think they both contacted each other and that’s what made the impact more severe.

When McVeigh …fractured Herd’s face, did he do that intentionally? No, that’s because it was both contact. And as for Natalie and Jim. Firstly I think they need to both look in their own backyard: Dippa, Dermie, Brown, Vandenberg, the list goes on. Nobody played the comments after what Brown said, when he called Lloyd a sniper. Taylor (that’d be the great BT) actually said to him, “if you are calling Lloyd a sniper, you must be calling Franklin a sniper.” [Brown] said he didn’t want to talk about it. If they were so concerned about Sewell, why did they all jump over him to get to Lloyd?

Time’s up with KB and Putz giggling as Diane continues. Putz finishes the hour be telling KB he’ll give him his final 8 tomorrow.

Hawks’ fans were on fire this morning, but unfortunately AFL players current and former, “Curley” Austin, Alan Stoneham, “Buddha” Hocking, Kevin Walsh, Neville Bruns’ jaw, Tim Watson’s teeth, and, oh yes, Ben Cousins, et al., were all unavailable for comment.;)

KB’s spitting chips and wants to get something of his chest and does so with Soup Nazi gusto:

I want to get this off my chest as well. When you go to the MCG and you want to park in the car park there, and you enter from the Wellington Rd entrance. And after the game you come out of the car park and you want to go home. You live in the eastern suburbs. So you come out of the entrance there at Wellington Rd, and you want to go straight down to Flinders St so you can get on to the Exhibition St ramp which takes you straight on the Monash Freeway. You come out the car park there, and I don’t know if it’s the Victorian police or the Melbourne City Council, but they make you turn right to the Hilton Hotel to go into Wellington Rd. You can either go straight ahead if you want to live in Collingwood or go down the Eastern Freeway or they turn you right to go up Wellington Rd to hit the biggest car park jam in the world in Punt Rd.

NOW, IF YOU LIVE IN THE EASTERN SUBURBS OUT THERE, VICTORIAN POLICE, OR THE MELBOURNE CITY COUNCIL, LET THOSE IN THE EASTERN SUBURBS DRIVE OUT OF THE BLOODY CAR PARK, DRIVE STRAIGHT DOWN TO FLINDERS ST, TURN LEFT AT THAT RAMP THAT WAS ACTUALLY BUILT, AND GET RID OF HALF THE TRAFFIC OUT OF THE MCG. ABSOULE DILLS. Glad I got that off my chest.

Then it was back to Hawks and Dons fans’ brouhaha

Back to see what gems Doran has for Bomber supporter, Rubbo, during his hour. The wait is never too long.

Rubbo: I’m sure you’ve spoken about it - Lloyd and Hawthorn. Al Clarkson, Campbell Brown.
Doran: No I haven’t. I’ve waited till you come in to speak about it. Partially because, Rubbo, in terms of a finals story it’s nonexistent. He gets weeks, it’s just a matter of how many; my opinion, four which will become three. So he’s not playing in the finals. Essendon are not sweating this in terms of their fist final…It’s a massive story but it’s not a finals story. It has no relevance to-

Rubbo: No, but it’s the story of the day. It’ll be a story tomorrow
Doran: Having said that Essendon will try to get him off.

So, it’s not a finals story when incidents which led to a stoush that could lead to key players missing a finals game the next week and would limit that team’s chances of winning due to suspensions, and thus easing the Crows into the second week finals. The story that included Patty Ryder’s right hand has no relevance.
Now Doran said he hasn’t spoken about it yet - waiting for Rubbo - but then he says “don’t really want to take a hundred calls on this because we’ve discussed it ad nauseam.” Gold!

Rubbo sides with Essendon caller’s comments that at every bounce all players are running off the line. Doran has the upper hand but then makes his inevitable faux pas:

Doran: Come on, Rubbo. Now you’re wearing your red and black
Rubbo: No. That’s a, da. Your are - you are a DICK

Doran: You’ve got your red stripe on your suit today
Rubbo: I didn’t think you’d be the first person to say that. Cause I barrack for Essendon.

Doran: But that’s a silly argument
Rubbo: Ah, [stammers some syllables] you shit me!

Doran: Rubbo
Rubbo: No!
Doran: Rubbo
Rubbo: You, you are, you are just a, you are, a dick

Doran: Rubbo, your opinion is not always right. You have to understand that and comes to terms with that. (A little tenet that Doran would never apply to himself)
Rubbo: O.K! But argue my opinion. Don’t throw in the cheap shot that I barrack for Essendon and I’m wearing my red and black. That’s just pathetic, Max.

Doran: That’s called - theatre.
Rubbo: [seemingly bangs desk] Take ya theatre somewhere else.

The duo return to caller wobbling on about Lloyd having Lucas Legs and falling into Sewell. I switch the radio off and exit as if I’ve just heard the tractor story.

Manbearpig doesn’t know what he’s missing. Then again, maybe he does.

Jeez, I can't believe I heard Natalie from Diamond Creek only once today call a station and tell us that her husband palyed for Hawthorn :D
I haven't heard her in ages, I need to listen to the radio more.

Who else is a fan of the gladiators? I dont get to listen to it that much cause of work but when I catch its one of the better shows. Why is it on so late and is it just on Saturday nights?

The lawyer is a smart guy but he does my head in. Anyone know if its a popular show ratings wise? Coulod it be moved to a better time.

I think it's also on Thursday and Friday nights.
Yeah, Peakey (the lawyer) ain't bad value.

I'd be surprised if any show on that late would rate much at all, and I gather, due to there sometimes being only 2 ad-breaks per hour, that ad revenue isn't much of a concern for those time-slots

I think they could do well in a better time-slot. They're pretty entertaining and better than a lot of the shows on at better times specially on weekends.

All I can say to this is dorrito is a man who believes he has an opinion....delusional at best. he should stick to just interviewing,
I would have harford do the show

Whats the go with SEN presenters getting poached ,eddie gone ,3aw after huddo.......have sen got the money to keep presenters .Soon dooran will be the only one left ...............

Anyone hear Phelma this morning at about 6.45.

Best call I've heard for a long time.

87 year old Hawthorn supporter who kept calling Andy & Tim idiots for sticking up for Lloyd.

I'm sure they will replay it at some time.

KB may replay it as they asked her which people she liked on SEN and she said Mark Allen. (Although the fact that she said she doesn't like KB or Patrick Smith may stop him from playing it)

If only someone would go after Ox and Kouta.

It would be a pity if they lost Huddo.

Yeah, that was gold. You can guarantee that it will be played on the Soapbox this evening.

It doesn't even matter that she was wrong because all they did was go through the news papers and read out the points Greg Baum made in the Age about Lloyd could get cleared.

lol at an sms this morning:

good on ya andrew for sticking it to dumb and dumber (andy and tim)

If only someone would go after Ox and Kouta.

i dont get kouta as a host. just another ex footy player getting a gig, although he does advertise his souva business on there so this maybe a way of working it off

Is this not the worst commentary team ever assembled on radio?:

Andrew Maher, Kevin Bartlett, Shane Wakelin and Daniel Harford.

Its shows the dearth of quality commentators at the station, which is only going to worsen with everyone seemingly on a handshake agreement. How else did half their "talent" audition for the Triple M gig?

The station stinks of leftovers:

Morning Glory - leftovers from original cast which included Brownless and Lyon.

The Run Home: leftovers from Huddo, Dermott and Matt Hardy.

Evenings: leftover from Bruce Eva.

Commentary team: leftovers from Eva, Grant Thomas, Nathan Buckley and now Eddie McGuire.

Some may argue that this is simply the change of personnel which occurs at any station/workplace, but at SEN it's often a case of talent leaving for greener pastures and being replaced by producers/fill-ins/inferiors.

No mention of the twinkle in SEN's eye of a daily line up?
