When I was about 19 I met a guy when I was out on a girl's night. He was cute and friendly, seemed cool. I gave him my number, a couple of days later we organised a date, yada yada yada.
He comes to pick me up from my house wearing a COLLINGWOOD SCARF.

First of all, Collingwood eww.

Secondly, i'd probably slam the door on someone who wore a footy scarf as an everyday fashion item. Regardless of team.

Okay, for what it is worth here is my 2 cents worth...

I don't think there is a secret formula for success in a relationship or that you need a certain balance. I reckon it gets down to mutual respect, understanding and a commitment to work through the good and bad times.

I have been with my wife for 21 years this year and we have been married for 16 years. We have what I would describe as a very good relationship. We rarely argue and wherever possible try not to sweat the small stuff. We make a good team even though our interests could not be more opposite. I am the ying to her yang....she would probably more suggest I am the shit to her bull but I digress!

Anyway, it works well for us but I know plenty of other people who are in great relationships but are very different to us. The one common thread is the respect, understanding and willingness to accept it will never be perfect but to work at it no matter what.
 
21 years Tony Lynn 15 ! Your wife must have the patience of a saint and a penchant for listening to dad jokes :p

In all seriousness, I love hearing about couples who are still together after becoming parents and spending years together. As a child of divorced parents it can be hard sometimes to believe in marriage...but I think if you both are as committed to making it work as each other then you have a much better chance of being together forever.

Spot on MEB, I am thinking MCG style of getting a statue of her out the front of our house for her resilience over the years!

Yeah 4 kids later and we are still going strong. Her folks were also divorced so I have seen first hand how much of an impact that can have. They refused to pose for photos together at our wedding but that is life.

Anyway, just be happy people and appreciate every moment, that is my philosophy!

Yeah photoshop is awesome. Our wedding photos ended with the parents posing together happily and me looking like Brad Pitt....happy memories!! :p
