This Carlton team on paper is a walk up top 8 team and good chance at the top 4. Something is wrong, I think it is the coach and his gameplan or lack there of

Carlton is like Communism.

In THEORY it looks perfect.

In PRACTICE, there are billionaire fatcats at the top while millions of supporters live in misery and hunger.

How many failed seasons do we have to go through, and how many coaches do Carlton need to go through, to realise it is not a list worthy of contending for top 4?

Acknowledging Carlton had a few injuries to some lesser players last year, they had as much continuity from their top 9 as every club that contended for the premiership (with the exception of Collingwood, primarily the result of Grundy's injury), whilst having a Brownlow season from Cripps and a Coleman season from Curnow.

A club simply cannot expect any better than that. They finished 9th, and possibly could have snuck into the top 8.

They don't have anywhere near the depth on their playing list, nor the versatility of players, to be able to contend with the better teams in the modern era of football.

They have Ross Lyon, Craig McRae or Brad Scott as coach and I would argue they would be up there

A top 6 as good as any, but then where do they go?

And how many players do they have on huge money, meaning they must have a heap on very little. Cant be fun going to work earning $300k watching guys on $900k play worse than you.

Nah that's late stage capitalism.

Maybe if we keep offering the billionaires trips to outer space or the bottom of the ocean we can weed them out

How in the world does it have the Lions winning the Grand Final, including an MCG win against Collingwood in the QF.

Used to rate the Squiggle but between this and it's December prediction which had Brisbane in 8th, it's just a crap shoot.

Squiggle is a rating tool, not a crystal ball. I think it fairly visualises where my club is at - quite good at attacking but we leak a lot of goals. It also visualises that West Coast are in another class to the rest.

There is no such thing as a statistical model that can tip every game. How can a model simultaneously be perfect at knowing how good each team is, but also react perfectly to actual results and adjust its expectations accordingly? Footy is played by human beings, not on paper. If Squiggle or other models could tip at near 100%, then what point would there be in running out onto the field?

Wow. Some real howlers in the squiggles predictions this year!

I know it might change, but Port, Adelaide, Geelong, Carlton, Essendon, Richmond the ones that stand out the most!
Why are you shocked at a pre-season prediction.

So many things constantly changing and squiggle adapts to the outcomes.

It is a predictive tool rather than a prediction.

Agreed. It’s what should happen not what does happen

The Squiggle has a lot of faith in Melbourne

I can't see them making finals let alone making the grand final!!!
Lol Dees won't miss the finals!

May not make the grand final but there is no chance they are missing finals.

They won't make the grand final, they'll be bungled out first week (would be extremely lucky to finish 5th-8th) or not qualify at all. If they drop any more games............ 5th-13th could easily leap frog them!

Dees likely to be on 10 wins/6 losses after tonight.

They are not missing the finals lol.

Your statement they would miss is beyond ridiculous!

It's mathematically possible other teams will finish ahead of them including anyone in 5th-13th position.
They are too inconsistent and won't do any damage in September.

You seriously have nfi.

Dees won't miss the finals....but agree with you they would need to improve significantly to make the grand final as they have no forward line.
