The history of this game and the people who developed and grew it into what we have today is really interesting, and the fact so many of those people are still here or at least check in occasionally is a testament to how extraordinary this place is.
I love reading this even tho so far it’s before my time but names like Frankston Rover popping up always make me smile, we’ve had some absolute characters here and some really memorable chapters of Sweet lore.
I can’t wait for S16 and onwards.

Thanks for doing this tgrs I appreciate the research and effort going into it!

Season 8

As quickly as Frankston Rover propelled himself into the Admin position and caused more sim controversies in one season than the entire history of the league to this point so far, The Southern Sharks captain departed the post, almost as quickly as his team founded in Season 7 was merged with the Dragons to become the Southern Dragons, or Shagons, if you will, for Season 8.

A truly extraordinary bit of media and a ground-breaking interview with Ljp86 , Frankston Rover and Pie 4 Life about the history of the Shagons can be found here.

Ironically, it was the appointment of TFLUA - Tiger, the incoming administrator who was singled out and appointed successor solely by Frankston Rover as the bloke who asked to do it first, that controversially folded Mr. Rover's Sharks.

The behind-closed-doors appointment of TFLUA - Tiger was certainly a contentious one, as noted in TFLUA's first thread as Admin where he boldly announced The merger of the Sharks and Dragons, and that the Alberton Swamprats and Las Vegas Bears would not return to the competition, neither would the AFL ALL-STARS although this was met with universal acclaim. Some notable opinions from these announcements include;
Are you a dictator?
Who the **** made you administrator? You've been here ****ing five minutes.
Now now, be nice to Mein Fuhrer.

Great job TFLUA-Tiger keep it up.

Despite these drastic changes to the competition, some felt bold enough to announce plans for a new expansion club (RIP Bell Post Hornets). Despite this, Season 8 began with the fittingly smaller list of 8 clubs, The Shagons, Furies, Bombers, Wonders, Hawks, Roys, Demons and Gumbies. Hilariously, after the drama involving the culling the competition, one oblivious poster posed the question of doubling the amount of teams to 16.

The Shagons in fact were the first team to have a "team thread" that rivaled the activity of modern day clubs, pointing to it being a relatively successful move. Whilst name changes were discussed to the more obviously inspired teams from the comparative bush league known as the AFL.

Another inter-forum cup was scheduled for pre-season and once again the Sweet F.A representative sides provided a dismal showing, but once again, retained the moral victory of continuing to exist. The in-house pre-season competition saw the Wonders hold off the Furies to win by a mere point.

TFLUA - Tiger's start as admin wasn't exactly what you'd call a smooth transition. Whilst the sim experienced less (but also some) **** ups, the ****s ups inevitably came elsewhere, take this exchange about a rule regarding red carded players missing a week where Ljp86 would have been ineligible;
I'm back so I'll be able to play.
No, anyone red carded misses the next game, whether they are unbanned before hand or not.
Pfft, I'm playing.

TFLUA promptly folded and the rule reverted to it's original state. The new admin also struggled with the highly difficult task of posting the ladder, which resulted in much confusion. The fixture also proved a struggle, as after Round 2, the new Admin debated starting the entire season again. The proud tradition of Admin's finding new and inventive ways to **** up seemed in secure hands.

Furies founder and one of the older players going around rfctigerarmy inquired about stats regarding total games played so far to tickle his own ego, The Roys legend, stats-guru, and well known distasteful despot Mobbs flaunted;
Yes, I do!

And then promptly disappeared.

Season 8 also saw the emergence of team stats threads, which Biggie pioneered with as much follow through as my failed attempts at an All-Star game.

The debate as old as time of improving activity was held and for the first time a mid-season trade period was not only talked about but enacted, the most notable trade was loopy_cam moving from the Dragons to the Bombers for whom he would go on to play 267 games. Future Hawks 439 game legend larrikin was delisted by the Wonders in a very Wonders move.

Between rounds 10 and 11, the second State of Origin carnival was held, with South Australia trailing the Allies by over 30 points late in the third, they launched a miraculous comeback to become the second team to win the tournament, 15.4.94 to 12.14.86.

Towards the end of the season, A match thread reached a whole SIX pages! Expansion was again up for discussion, TFLUA - Tiger quit as Captain of the Furies, The Gumbies, as was becoming tradition, once again struggled to find anyone insane enough to take the captaincy, with krisholio14 taking on the responsibility and also taking the mantle of posting match threads after East Side Hawks' Biggie shockingly announced 'I'm done'
With (posting) the matchday threads.

See ya when I tackle the shit out of ya, at training or on game day.

Heading into the finals, other developments included the first rumblings of what would become the 'EKA' Rising Star medal, The frequent use of the term 'n00b' and TFLUA - Tiger still couldn't handle the fixture and it's posting. The BigFooty Bombers merged with the Baghdad Bombers cricket club, establishing the name they hold to this day.

The beginnings of future Admin boncer34 's meteoric rise
can be witnessed in the end of Season 8, firstly with the establishment of 'BS News' where he boldly proclaimed;
Not happy with the way things are getting done? Want to vent about something? Talk someone up/ or down? PM BS Editor Boncer34 to have your very own thread created without you actually having to put your nuts (or lack of) on the line.

This slate of media from Boncer included trading a player for 'a couple of pizza shapes', the signing of @doggiesin08 to the Bombers who would go on to win back to back ALL-SFA selections, a door-slamming takedown of the current Admin and trashing Tarkyn_24 's recruitment policy at the Demons.

After the regular season, the final ladder stood as;

Code:
TEAM               P    W    L    D    F       A           %         P
East Side Hawks     21   13   6    2    2081    1794     115.99       56
Fighting Furies     21   14   7    0    2073    1852     111.93       55*
Geelong Gumbies     21   12   8    1    2149    2040     105.34       50
Southern Dragons    21   11   10   0    2038    1970     103.45       43*
Mt Buller Demons    21   10   11   0    1977    1953     101.22       42#
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
West Coast Wonders  21   11   10   0    2008    2090     96.07        42**
BigFooty Bombers    21   7    13   1    1958    2216     88.35        29***#
The Roys            21   4    17   0    1905    2274     83.77        16

* = Point deducted for late or incorrect submission of team
# = 2 points added due to simulation error.

On Mobbs night, All time Sweet F.A games record holder and the Southern Dragons Ljp86 would take home the first of his two Mobbs medals with 19 votes, 2 clear of his competition. The Grand Final would take place in May between the East Side Hawks and Fighting Furies. Despite the Hawks being one of the stronger posting outfits and the Furies arguably the weakest, the sim is a cruel mistress and the Furies ran over the top the East Side outfit for their second premiership.

SIREN SOUNDS FOR THE END OF QUARTER 4
East Side Hawks : 12.10.82
Fighting Furies : 16.7.103

Despite there being some spirited discussion around the Season 8 ALL - SFA team with familiar names such as Roys legend Fred, Demons/Hawks stalwart Tarkyn_24, former Admin eagleskickass , future two-time Deestroy medalist ant555 and feisty rookie sausageroll being singled out as the best of the best...

Alas,

In a relatively weaker rookie year to last but still with some huge highlights, Season 8 also marked the debut of future HOFer and perpetual Admin in waiting ClarkeM, Future actual admin doggiesin08, perpetual rookie sausageroll and long time Bomber loopy_cam .
