I don't believe Mitchell is gettable and I think we know that.
He's a player not getting a game in the seniors taking up almost half a mill in the salary cup of a team that needs to drop it's TPP.

We've made our intentions known to his family and if he nominates us we'll be in the driver's seat. The talk of him staying put is to not distract the club from grand final week.

I hope you're right ;)

But I want pick 6 :(

I've seen this sentiment a lot, but people seem to forget that next year they won't be paying O'Keefe, LRT and probably even Goodes and Malcheski

Thats a large chunk of money

However, on the flip side, they are still yet to re-sign Rhyce Shaw and Towers this year. Then next year they also need to re-sign Grundy, both Jacks, Jetta, Rampe and Richards.

The reported $400-500k that Mitchell is on could very well come in handy, particularly for Jack and Jetta.

I saw Jones up close in the vfl prelim.

I said this on the day to the Mrs but he is a confidence player.

He dropped a sitter in front of a pocket of us and we gave it to him for being no good. Struggled to take an easy mark for the rest of the game and sprayed some game goals, turn overs.

Has the ability but if he is off to a bad start struggles to get back into it. Unsure if he has the mental strength to be a good contributor consistently at AFL level.

Is he comes cheap I say go for it but with the way our supporters act towards people that make mistakes I don't know if he will last too long.

Sounds a bit like Matthew Watson. Maybe, just maybe if he came to us coaches like Malthouse and Wiley would be the right people to help instill some belief in himself.

They have seemed to help Casboult and also maybe they are starting to get through to Watson.

At the right price it could be worth a shot.

I dont see any problem with bringing in Liam Jones if he goes for like a 4th rounder and then we have him, Jaksch and Watson competing for a spot. MM loves competition for spots (as do I Jeeves) because it doesnt afford you the chance to be complacement. Youd imagine our KP locks are Jamison, Rowe, Hendo, Casboult and lets say White as well. I exclude Waite from this on the assumption he is gone. You really want 6 KPP in your side and that does mean those 3 guys would fight for that spot (or backup in case of injury). Not sure on Jones but Watson and Jaksch could be good 3rd talls in defense, whilst on the forwad line they can all potentially play there.

As 1 article stated, Jones is coming into that age bracket now (23-24 old or 50-70 games) where they start to be able hold their own. Could be worth the risk around a 4th pick. Then with a little luck Boyd comes to us next year.

Can I get an amen brother?!

There must be a reason he wants to come.

I just read on another forum that Liam is Wow Jones' son? Does anyone know if this is right?

*edit* actually i don't think he's right, saying wow came from Tasmania, pretty sure that's not right.

From the Blueseum: Jones was born in Wellington New Zealand, before growing up in Queensland. He learned the Australian game with Morningside Football Club, and later moved south to Castlemaine in central Victoria.

Just confirmed that this was wrong, definitely not wow's son, it was another Jones who played for St.Kilda

Whats Tom Browne's credibility like when it comes to player movement?

I happen to know that he is 110% correct re: Blease wanting to come to Carlton (as he reported).... hopefully the Jones stuff is true also.

Sounds like Casboult and Mick has turned him around, at least 180 degrees anyway.

I'd say Buttifant went some way to turn Casboult around, as his fitness was considerably up on last year.
Maybe Casboult just worked a little harder again.

I can see Jones being of some interest but I don't see The Dogs ready to let him go just yet, and especially for what we may be willing to offer.

Is Jones out of contract?
