. They are kidding themselves if they think they have a shot at top 4 and a premiership next year - particularly with such a young list.

And Buckley's coaching

Meh the guys they recruited last year like Lynch and Young didnt work out at all and now they've lost Shaw and Thomas. Thats equivalent to us losing Walker and Gibbs in the one trade period...id be filthy to lose 2 players of their quality at the one time, even if we did land Adams and a pick upgrade.

I must say im really surprised about the optimism of Collingwood supporters on BF about their prospects next year and they dont seem to really care they've lost two of their best senior players...in fact most seem to be loving the idea of getting rid of them for pick 11 (maybe) and Adams. Sure, Collingwood are clearly stockpiling young talent so that Buckley can rebuild and mould his own team and we'll see down the track whether it works out for them but for the next year or two, their team has taken a serious hit with the loss of Shaw and Thomas. They are kidding themselves if they think they have a shot at top 4 and a premiership next year - particularly with such a young list.

youd have to think Swan would be a big chance of walking as a free agent too at the end of next season. Will be his last big contract , and some one will no doubt throw massive coin at him

Happy Birthday Sam Docherty, hope you get a nice shiny new contract from a ripper footy club.

I could not think of a better birthday present than to be given the opportunity to play for the club that you have grown up loving.

Oh wait ... actually I can ...

Our pick will be 13 due to the GWS having 9 as a compo pick from previous years and COLL getting 11 for Thomas.

You're not going to hijack that deal by offering them a worse pick, albeit 1 or 2 picks. They are already looking for an upgrade from us for Docherty. They also have kids running out the door currently. Word is Brisbane want players in return rather than draft picks also, so crap picks aint getting it done. (A sweetener, like Casboult for a later pick may be the cherry for the Lions to deal with us.)

Eagles get Bootsma, Yeo and 13, Lose 6 and 24. Stay in first and get two kids for a 2nd.
Lions get 24 and 28, Lose Yeo and Docherty. Better than 27 and 29 currently on offer.
Blues get 6 and Docherty, Lose 13, Bootsma and 28.

Essentially, its Bootsma and 13 for 6, Yeo for 24, Docherty for 28. We get a good kid at 6 and keep a solid 2nd. Lose Bootsma for the privelege of a better kid effectively.
Gotta give to get, this is why trade period is so BS IMO. It's the biggest game of one-upmanship going around sometimes.

I think we would kill it if we could push this through. Yeo, like Docherty, has nominated his club of choice which reduces the Lions bargaining power significantly. If they cannot find another suitor for either who are prepared to beat ours and W/C's offer they seem destined to be forced to accept 24 for Yeo and 28 for Docherty.

So if W/C are likely to get Yeo for 24 why would they drop back 6 places in the draft for Bootsma? I think we are the only club that would rate Boots that highly at this point of his career. If I was a Weagles fan I wouldn't want to see this.

Given that we've already traded Hampson and delisted 2 (previously thought as emerging) talls I don't think that we can afford to let Casboult go unless we are targetting one or two young talls behind the scenes.

My argument/not my trade scenario was based around this post from the previous page.

"Amid a range of complex scenarios, the Pies have discussed exchanging their picks 11 and 27 for West Coast’s sixth selection. The Eagles would then on-trade 27 to the Brisbane Lions for Elliott Yeo." http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...ylor-adams-trade/story-fn69a32t-1226741216205

In my scenario WCE get Bootsma and 13 for 6, whereas in the Collingwood scenario they get 11 and 27 for 6. Suppose I should have posted the whole post.

Let's just wait and see what compo pick Collingwood get for Thomas. I have a feeling they will only get a band 2 ( end of first round). Firstly, because Andy McKay said on radio last week that is what he expected Collingwood to get ( and he would know the details of the contract which determine compo picks). Secondly, I think the AFL would hate for the biggest deal ever (Buddy's) not to get the best compo. It would look bad for the AFL if Hawks got less than Collingwood. The AFL have the power to make special recommendations that go against the compo rules if they feel the outcome is unfair.

I agree your scenario is better for WCE than Collingwoods. At least with yours they get 2 young players with upside while the other way they get 1 and a pick downgrade.

Surprised Collingwood didn't want their second as well. This is why no one should deal with them in trade week.

The lure to go back to SA will always be on for Gibbs.
This is when Macca and Swann will really earn their money.

I dunno about that with Gibbsy. Has always seemed more than comfortable being in Melbourne, and probably even prefers it here. Could only see it being a possibility when he's 30 odd if at all.

*now just watch him do a runner next year

Might not be the case. He has said recently he probably wont even move home when he retires.
