Personalities of Jar-Jar Binks? We want to attract people to watch the game not scare them away.

And if the majority of people felt that way they wouldn't be on.. personalities live and die by popularity.. so despite what Bigfooty thinks about them the people are voting with their TV's and radios

And if the majority of people felt that way they wouldn't be on..

Because people are apathetic and can't live without football so they all just sit there with the ICBF'ed attitude and just tolerate these boofheads while some of them just come here to vent.

It is disappointing to see the lack of a genuine talent pool being used in Australia. There are young blokes (and hopefully women) with genuine and passionate interest in sports broadcasting yet they are unlikely to ever be given the chance to do so because of this precious Boy's Club that exists.

Don't know how you can say the fact people are watching the footy means that they love Taylor. Maybe it just means they like footy enough to put up with his immature ****baggery?

And yes, I appreciate the irony of the end of that sentence.

Nothing but ratings matter in that industry and they are followed like scripture

You can all piss and moan til doomsday but people are voting with their feet.. err bums

Stop bitching and turn off if you want it to change.. because it doesn't change any other way

Me turning my tv off does nothing but deprive me of the football. I'd be cutting off my nose to spite my face.

I'd rather watch it and bitch about it knowing that other people feel the same way and will also bitch about it. We can then take solace in each others bitchings and actually get a laugh out of it at the same time on occasion.

gedit?

So what is the alternative?
Don't watch footy? That isn't being realistic, they have a captive market, we aren't able to vote.

He was arguing with Lingy and Richo last night about whether you could smother a kick if you were on the mark.

"No he's not allowed to smother anything until the umpires called play on"
"if the kicks low enough surely he can smother it?"
"As long as the umpire has called play on"

That's just completely wrong. To be fair the umpire did explain the 50 metre penalty poorly. (Armitage grabbed Ryder's arm before the play on call yet the umpire said 'you smothered the handball')

Your argument lacks logic.

It is a captive market, if there was more than one provider offering the same matches simply with different commentary/camera work then this point would be relevant.

The level of complaining should tell you something. Many of us watch the Premier League/International Soccer, the NFL, UFC or NBA etc etc.

We know that the quality of AFL coverage, commentary and analysis simply does not stack up.

Most loathe the negative effect the boys club and "profile" first approach has on AFL related media, but can do little because there are so few options.

Sadly we are stuck with these cretins, who are parasites on the game, not pillars of it who contribute to its grandeur. So please to not try to argue that good ratings for football are somehow indicative of muppets like Taylor having done a good job, they do detract from the quality of the overall package but not enough to turn people away from watching AFL games.

Great post. So true as well.

That's the thing. Demetriou and his cronies act like every ratings point or rights deal is some masterstroke that only they could accomplish. Anyone could. You know why? Because people want to watch footy. Whoever controls the rights to it can pretty much scrawl a number on a beer coaster, leave the room, and it will be met. It's the same with ratings for matches. It's laughable that they act like it's so impressive to get 300,000 people or whatever to a round of footy. Yes it would be, except no games are played at the same time, and none in the same city (or very rarely). The same figures used to be achieved with 6 games being played at the exact same time in the same market. Amazing but true.

Anyone hear BT having a crack at Harry Taylor for missing a game for the birth of his child ?
He was having a crack because it was Harry's 2nd kid,so he said he should've played as he already saw the 1st born.
So under that theory if one of BT's kids kicked the bucket I guess he shouldn't get upset as he still has another kid [or kids].

I feel so sorry for Richo & Lingy having to put with the crap spewed out by BT & Darcy every saturday night.

I think he is nothing more than an on air agitator. He says things that will contrast those of his co commentators and viewing public.

Same thing as when he goes on about kids should not be allowed on the field at all.

Still an annoying idiot.

I quite liked BT before this year.

I have no doubt that channel 7 is telling him, along with all their commentators, to talk sh*t throughout the game and make 'jokes' to give the whole commentary team more personality.

I really don't get channel 7 and some of the decisions that they make.

Ch 7 have sugar coated their coverage this year. Hardly any negativity towards the game and the umps. When a player does something terrible like Judd and Welham clearly they have been told by either ch 7 or the AFL to not focus on it too much.

Or was ch 10 angry in their coverage?
