Never gunna happen. The problem the toon r gunna have is that they dont want to pay the 5 million compensation and who in their right mind would come and manage us?
why dont we chase keegan ?

Good sentimentally but it would be a big step backwards, imo. Sven wouldn't be too bad, i could think of a lot worse.

who in their right mind would come and manage us?

that's the reason why we won't attract a high profile manager. we are a laughing stock. though if we got sven i'm sure the big names would be convinced to stay, at the moment i'm betting that Owen will be out the door at the first opportunity.

The same reason Liverpool didn't chase Roy Evans when Houllier was punted.

John Beresford summed it up best when he said:

"Prior to a game Kev would just come in and pin the teamsheet on the wall and say 'if we're not 2-0 up inside half an hour there's something wrong'. Later he'd come to each one of us individually and give us a word of encouragement"

Keegan is fantastic at motivation, but once the excitement wears off and we need more than just "stick it in the net, lads" he has no answers.

Have to agree with Dyertribe. I love KK, and he gave me some wonderful memories from his time at City but his management style doesn't really suit the modern game and I think he would run the risk of ruining his legendary status if he went back to St James Park.

All this talk about Sven is ********!!! What have we got for him????? Give me two or three good reasons that he would come to us? Freddy is in a pickle because if he sacks souness, he wont be able to find anyone else.

i see your point gents.

what about Stuart Pearce? or slammin Sam allardyce

Stuart Pearce would be a disaster for Newcastle. Tactically inept, no passion, no real standing in the game. Best look elsewhere I think. ;)

I know some of you might laugh but has anyone thought of Billy Davies from Preston??? the guy has taken a fairly cheap and ordinary team to within points of promotion.

He is very popular with the fans and seems to have developed a great tactical approach to his games. Preston defend well and they score, someone like Davies could be good.

From all reports the guy has the experience and the tactical and player managment to be able to take the reins of a big club. He is getting massive rapts in England and someone like him good be refreshing and good for the club.

cheers

I like Davies but think he needs a few more years at PNE before making the leap to a club like Newcastle.

He's certainly done the leg work visiting other clubs to learn about management, but I think this time last year we was still an assistant to Craig Brown at Preston.

I know Davies has only been Manger for the past 15 or so months but the guy has done fantastic things with Preston.

WE ARE CRAP!!!

Yes, yes I'm afraid you are. Definately the worst Newcastle performance in my memory, and from what I've seen on the tellie over the past month it's a fairly typical performance.

I know you have lots of injuries but on that performance I can only say Given, Emre, Parker and the kid that came on at left wing (O'Brien) looked remotely premiership class. I think Bramble, Boumsong, Babayaro are a lost cause. I didn't even realise Chopra was playing until I saw the highlights and Shearer is finished.

Emre and Parker were beaten in the midfield by Barton and Musampa and they are certainly not the strongest midfield they'll come up against. In their defence both probably needed the run and at least they showed some class at times.

Luque for me looked the stereotypical foreign player (huge generalisation I know), plenty of skill and obvious technical ability. But no urgency, and to me I'd get rid as soon as someone with money (Real) comes in for him.

Some good byplay with the toon crowd, I think were a bit put out when the City support started chanting "One greedy b@stard to Barton", thats normally what they sing to Distin. They responded with "One Joey Barton", so we came back with "One Graeme Souness". Point taken on both sides.

Probably the sign of where Newcastle are at the moment is that there were no "where were you when you were sh1t" chants, but there were a few "where were you when you were good".

Sorry, but theres not a lot of positives I can come up with for Newcastle this morning.

i think its a bit harsh to say they're not premiership material. They aren't premiership material at the moment is what should have been said.

There is only 1 person involved at newcastle who isnt prem material at the moment and that is.......................

Thats right u guessed it GRAEME SOUNESS!!!!

It was just based on that performance, although I will say that IMO Bramble and Boumsong will never be top level premiership performers.

The likes of N'Zogbia, Ramage, Solano have all shown they are capable but were poor last night.

I was watching the replay this morning, I'm sure I saw your physio laugh when we sung that. Maybe he knew something. I think it was a decision that couldn't be put off any longer.

I was skeptical when they first appointed him as manager at Newcastle. To be honest, injuries have not helped his cause, not one bit. Got to feel for him as it cost him his job in the end and if he had a full fit squad throughout the season i doubt he would have lost his job.

I feel for him as well but he isnt a good tactician. Ameobi is not a left winger

I dont know even with injuries we still have decent players in most positions to still put in a good footballing performance. The fact was we werent looking like a side that had any plan or have any plan other then hoof it forward and hope for the best. We dont hold the ball and pass it around looking to create openings and with one of the better midfields on the park, if all fit, we need to use them instead of going over them!

Anyways glad he is gone and he did what most think he was hired for and that was to get the dressing room sorted out. He has done that and we lost Bellamy (one of the best players for us no doubt) and Robert who was an engima.

I was iffy when the club made the decision to get him especially after what some Rovers supporters said and im just grateful the mistake of hiring Souness (our 5th choice manager) is finally come to an end!

Don't forget that our higher preferences included Marrrrrrrrrrrvellous McClaren and "Geordie" Bruce, though.

When you pull the pin on a manager shortly after the main transfer window has slammed shut as we did with SBR it was always going to be tough bringing someone of true quality in.

Had Freddie waited in '04, let SBR get rid of the main sources of trouble in Kieron and Laurent in January '05 and then bow out gracefully in the summer we could've had our pick of managers with a £50m warchest as bait.

Instead we're stuck again.

"Come to Newcastle United, where the transfer window is shut - we don't have any money anyway - everyone's overpaid, injured and we're an inch away from a relegation scrap."

The problem with Souness is that he was too good of a player, fair enough to think "there shouldn't be a plan, players should just go on instincts and know what to do out there" or something, but all the players aren't up to the level Souness was, mentally and instinctively. hence duds like Boumsong/Bramble/Babayaro/Ameobi etc looked a bit lost out there without being given real directions. i think with the right coaching staff backing him up and complementing him he could be a real success at a club somewhere. he was great in the transfer market, he even managed to get Owen in eventhough not many thought he'd come to the club.
