I honestly don't think you have the understanding or the courage to face why he won.

That people got jack of being hectored by aggressive pseudo cultural cops loudly proclaiming to be lefties but never engaging in genuine left economics was a huge part of it.

This would be more believable if they didn't decide to vote for a billionaire, financed by the world's richest man, who campaigned on reducing taxes for billionaires, adding tariffs to domestic goods and food, and deporting the bulk of the workforce who picks their food.

All the while voting against the only candidate offering actual "left economic" policies;

She was the incumbent, not the opposition..

What's your point?
She ran a campaign as if she was in opposition, its very easy to promise the world when you're in opposition, to say you're going to aim for sweeping changes when you've been in office for 4 years prior??
its bullshit, people see through it, especially coming from someone like Kamala.

Lol, you're doing it RIGHT NOW.

Squeaking that the voters were wrong and they should just have believed that THIS TIME the Democrat wouldn't just pull the rug again.

For someone who immerses themselves in US culture to the level you do, your ignorance of its very basics is quite something.

AOC was fascinating talking about the power of the Kamala is for they/them, Trump is for you ad.

Biden just didn't deliver enough for average people during a time of politically lethal high inflation.

Tens of billions to try and force Russian speakers in Donetsk to become Ukranian speakers though

This just shows how you don't get it.

Trump won because a bunch of people think its better to vote for a campaigner who is honestly a campaigner than for people who will lie about supporting you then fail to deliver.

Whatever you think, Trump voters in the US thought Harris represented people who were well off and protected by the system. Not them.

Despite the rhetoric about Joe's economy, the economy is ****ed for alot of people. They can't afford to live and Harris represented the staus quo that led to that situation. People aren't listening to her plan cos they don't believe it.

Its ironic that everything that Trump was in the 80s is now eating the lives of the people who voted for him but the Democrats had a chance to go against that eight years and rejected it in favour of a Wall St war monger. Then blamed the Russians when people voted against that. FDR protected the poor from the rich in the US. No one sees Harris doing that. No one saw Clinton doing it in 2016 and things were better for people then.

Its got to the point where private equity firms are now buying up trailer parks in the US because there's nothing left to squeeze the blood out of.

People have no one else to believe in so they pin their hopes on Trump somehow saving them. Its not rational behaviour but when people are genuinely worried about their survival they don't behave rationally.

BTW I know you'll ignore this point but I'm saying it anyway:

That I recognise this does not mean I support Trump.

"Squeaking"?

Sure okay.

That was a disgusting ad.

Tens of billions to try and force Russian speakers in Donetsk to become Ukranian speakers though

Hahahahahahahahahaha. Classic you.

She was the incumbent, not the opposition..

Don't let facts get in the way of some narrative cope building.

At least we're not pretending a few dumb posts on Facebook by low level GRU cut-outs swung the election.

If the Russians want to change a government in a country, they use more ... kinetic ... methods as we're seeing in Ukraine.

So there was an ad where he said exactly this?

No one would have believed it if the facts of their lives didn't support the "Kamala is for them" bit.

I personally hope the Trump voters get everything they voted for.

You didn't see it? It was gross. Really ugly politics.

I'm currently reading an excellent new biography of J. Edgar Hoover. It's telling how many of FDR's reforms came because there was a genuine threat from communists/local agrarian uprisings etc.

That simply isn't there now on the left so people who hate the system are voting right.

Who wrote this:

"Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign? Will they understand the pain and political alienation that tens of millions of Americans are experiencing? Do they have any ideas as to how we can take on the increasingly powerful Oligarchy which has so much economic and political power? Probably not."

Why would I watch an American political ad?

Because you have an interest in American politics? Otherwise why would you be participating in this thread?
It might be disgusting but it worked for a reason.

Can you guess the reason? The people responsible for the campaign are quite up front about it.

Yeah there's a lot of bigots in the United States unfortunately. And they vote.

There's a difference between a passing interest and being obsessed.

Again you're missing the point by ****en miles.

Probably deliberately, when you've got nothing else fake moral superiority provides some comfort.

I spent a bit of time in the US this year,
One of the advantages of being Australian is you can play dumb, like you have no real idea there is election on, oh who's running for president etc, gives you the opportunity to sit down and actually listen and people are surprisingly honest. I sat down shared beers with everyone from CEO's, waitresses, teamsters and everyone in-between. it was astounding the response, economy was clear number 1 issue, things like no-tax on tips was like someone hearing they'd won the lottery. its ****ing sad to think.
Basically democrats are fooked, unless you have a .gov job, as that's basically the main support now. it's the only people who had glowing reviews of the current situation.
it was this weird time wrap between the two, people who can tap into a magic well and those who can't.

That ad was straight up anti-trans bigotry. Plain and simple.

Got nothing to do with 'moral superiority'.

This is a great post, but I don't think he has it in him to properly digest it. He just takes the Democrat line that people just voted Trump because they're racist bigots hook, line and sinker.

Why do you think bigotry works ... or more to the point when do think its the most effective thing to appeal to?

There's a video I asked Chad to watch in the locked thread, or maybe this one ... in it Trump voters talk about immigrants and they specifically say "they are just like us" and "the probably are more like me than Trump or politicians".

That isn't the basis of racism, if anything its the opposite. The one thing that came across from that was that the anti immigration people felt there was nothing there in the US for themselves, let alone anyone crossing the border looking for a better life.

Doesn't mean there aren't bigots there as well but its never the only part of the story.

Dems blaming the voters for their massive loss is glorious. Complaining about deportation after supporting Obama. Telling people struggling to pay their bills that the economy is going great and they are wrong. Being pro war weirdos when they don't fight them and military recruitment is disastrous. All good fun. Has Trump being Hitler ended democracy yet? Nah people saw through that bullshit too.

That ad was straight up anti-trans bigotry. Plain and simple.

Got nothing to do with 'moral superiority'.

It was a way of differentiating the candidates first and foremost.

It played into people's fears/suspicions/doubt and yes bigotry about trans issues to make that differentiation.

But a key lesson from this election is the Democrats have to acknowledge that lots more work needs to be done to bring people on the journey re trans stuff.

Simply screaming at people who have what they think are legitimate concerns about trans issues that they're bigots full of hate just doesn't work.

You have to treat them like adults and take their concerns seriously, even if they are fairly ignorant.

Kids sport is a key one.
