Why put a time frame on it? You trying to cover your tracks over there after being called out?

It has been happening for 2.5 years.

People calling the Russians Nazis have never read a book. This one is from last week.

It was a way of differentiating the candidates first and foremost.

It played into people's fears/suspicions/doubt and yes bigotry about trans issues to make that differentiation.

But a key lesson from this election is the Democrats have to acknowledge that lots more work needs to be done to bring people on the journey re trans stuff.

Simply screaming at people who have what they think are legitimate concerns about trans issues that they're bigots full of hate just doesn't work.

You have to treat them like adults and take their concerns seriously, even if they are fairly ignorant.

Kids sport is a key one.
Its not just the anti trans stuff. Its that people are living one paycheck from the street and have no proper healthcare while the government is spending millions of dollars on "lifestyle choice" operations for people who have broken the law.

Its the juxtaposition of those two things.

"You've got nothing and are in severe survival stress - we hear you. They spend your money on criminals who don't abide by the same laws you do - they don't hear you."

There would be a bunch of people who couldn't care less about trans people's choices provided they didn't have pay them for them when they have very little themselves. Especially when those people are in prison.

No, it's just that I hadn't seen it since the mods started cracking down on it.

Here's the thread rules in the sticky post at the top of every page;

The term "orc" is now banned from those Ukrainian threads. Posters were calling Russians "orcs".

I called that out and that's why the term is banned.

Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

That right there is why Trump won. Because that absolute nonsense was taken as gospel.

Yes, I just posted about that before you responded. The thread is pretty well-moderated these days.

If people weren't in severe financial stress and scared for their futures, while corporate entities resort to even buying up trailer parks to screw the poor, then no one would give a shit.

By essentially every available economic metric, the American economy was doing great for regular folks under Biden. The problem is, Trump and the MAGA republicans successfully convinced people that they weren't fine.

But the data suggests otherwise;

Those graphs show that us wages peaked under Trump and fell 10% under Biden. Right now US has more people homeless than ever and nearly 50% of the population are under financial stress. Not only that, wealth inequality is worse than its ever been in the US and getting more worser by the year.

You only see anti trans bigotry in that ad. But there's alot more going on there.

Its a stupid policy. Firstly it incentivises poor people with sexual dysphoria, who would have no option to pay for treatment (other than sex work) to commit crimes in order to get treatment. Secondly it prioritises criminals over ordinary people in the US which has no functioning health care system for the general population. If you have a kid with sexual dysphoria and can't afford treatment or get access to state support this policy should piss you off.

If you take out the covid abnormality spikes those graphs basically show liner line for employment from Obama to Biden, US unemployment seems to back to 4.3 which was trending that way from Obama.
The only thing that hasn’t returned is avg weekly wages that we’re 10% higher under trump?

Do you know how many prisoners in the US Federal system have received tax-payer funded gender-affirming surgery?

Care to guess, considering how big Trump and MAGA made the issue in the campaign, and how they've convinced people like you that it's a massive issue costing Americans "millions of dollars" (your words) during a cost-of-living crisis?

As of October 2024, the number is...

Two.

Not two thousand. Not two hundred.

Two.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union, of the hundreds of incarcerated transgender people in BOP [Federal Prison] custody each year, no one had received gender-affirming surgery until the first instance in 2023.

BOP officials told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that as of early October 2024, only two federal inmates have ever obtained surgeries.

The fact that Trump and MAGA convinced everyone, including it seems you, that this is a massive issue costing regular people millions of dollars just goes to show the power of disinformation/misinformation.

Of course there is only one or two, who cares what the actual numbers are.

You don't get it do you. You're so out of touch with things that you just have no idea...

You're making the mistake AGAIN.

When voters say the FEEL the economy is not doing well for them, badgering them with charts that "prove" they're wrong is electoral suicide.

You have to do what Clinton literally did, say "I feel your pain."

The voters are never wrong, ever. First rule of politics.
Chad is political scientitician. he knows more about this stuff than you do.

I'm so out of touch?

You're the one who said, and I quote;

Except that's not happening at all. In essence, you and everyone else who fell for that crap have been bamboozled.

Facts matter.

This kind of "playing the man, not the ball" is why these threads never work.

And then you blame others.

Sad.

The voters are never wrong, ever. First rule of politics.

This is out-dated, boomer-mentality nonsense. It is akin to "the customer is always right".

Acquiescing to this philosophy is how you end up with corrupt far-right populist governments. And unfortunately, it's happening a lot all around the world.

Take Brexit for example. By your argument, the British voters were "right" to do that, despite every single metric explicitly pointing out how leaving the EU would make things worse, not better.

Further more, by your argument all the voters in the last two hundred~ years who voted to keep discrimination and bigotry codified in law, whether it was civil rights issues, or equality issues, etc... were all correct.

I don't agree.

A politician's duty isn't to look at what is popular and to position themselves behind it. Their duty is to do what is best for the people and the country, and to make convincing arguments to their electorates to gain the capital required to do so.

It's why we refer to politicians as "leaders" and not "followers".

But unfortunately we live in a time where the electorates are increasingly disaffected, uneducated, and hostile. Which is how you end up in a diaspora where the Vice President-elect literally goes on TV and says it's okay to make up stories if it helps them.

Come on. You're behaving like a complete know it all and yet you don't even understand why what you see happening is happening.

You were up in arms about the gas rort in another thread but that exactly the sort of thing that drives people toward populist arseholes. But you don't seem interested in understanding why this stuff happens ... as a result you'll never be involved in anything that effectively challenges or combats it.

Come on. You're behaving like a complete know it all and yet you don't even understand why what you see happening is happening.

I understand what's happening. I just had more faith in the American electorate that they wouldn't do this. And I was wrong.

But what happened is America basically not only fell for the lie demonstrated in this classic cartoon, but then elected the dude in the middle;

If people are genuinely struggling, you can't gaslight them with graphs that their lived experience is wrong.

Also Harris is a woefully bad communicator, she had no hope of selling anything to anyone who wasn't already converted.
Communication is the most important skill for any politician. When you look a lot of the most successful politicians of the last 50 years, they were all strong communicators.
Think Reagan, B Clinton, Obama, Trump, Blair, Hawke, Howard and even "shudder" Andrews.

Unfortunately these graphs don't show most people's largest monthly outgoings increasing well beyond CPI. Rental costs exceeded wage growth by 1.5x (Bloomberg) and interest rates doubled under the Biden administration.
