Was that where he beat Max ?

That always seems to come up in the Ocon conversation, about how he beat Max as his teammate in a junior series.
Max never did GP3. He beat him in FIA F3 Europe, which was then merged with GP3 etc etc. Max had 10 wins to his 9 despite being a year younger (Max was only 16 at the time, quite young for F3)

Complete hypothetical situation here

Lets say that Max catches up to Russell, and instead of sticking behind him the whole time, Max just drives straight on at the Nouvelle Chicane to overtake George, completely cutting the corner in the process to get passed.

Questions
1. What sort of penalty would he get
and more importantly
2. Would he have been able to make that up on track (if it were just a time penalty), given that he was at that stage a good few seconds a lap quicker than George.

I think they're 10 second penalties now arent they? He would have had to get past Lando etc given the gap in the end.

Riviera Radio, which is based out of Monaco and is the English speaking radio station from 'San Remo to St Tropez', were this morning saying how exciting the race was... The woman presenter though does daily struggle to string sentences together.

I had to drive into that shit show twice today. Monaco GP, despite it's reputation, is just shit!

Would deserve more for something that (hypothetically) cynical but Max should've done it anyway to highlight how silly this race has become.

The cars have outgrown this track.
In the old days, the narrower cars had half a chance of getting an overtake done. But now, 2 metre wide cars guarantees a collision unless the guy being overtaken rolls on his back, all 4 paws in the air, and surrenders for the belly rub.
The only anticipation when watching Monaco is in waiting for a big smash.
Most boring race of the year and really should be replaced.

On a track with DRS and that you can overtake on he wouldn't have cooked his tyres so much. He did because it doesn't matter.
thing is, none of the other top four had any significant tyre issues. i think oscar recognises it's any area where he needs to improve.

Red Bull still undecided for 2025

There are still lots of rumours floating about regarding the 2025 driver lineup for Red Bull Racing. It's one of the most anticipated answers that the F1 world is waiting for, but it's a decision that Christian Horner and the Austrian team are not in any rush to make.

After all the issues that the team boss went through before the 2024 season got underway, there was plenty of talk as to whether Max Verstappen would be on the move after being there since 2016. The Dutchman looks like he will stay put for the time being, but Sergio Perez's seat is still a contentious subject. After a very disappointing weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix, where the Mexican qualified in P18 and crashed out on the first lap, there were many questions about whether Red Bull would offer Perez a contract extension, or if they would move on.

However, Horner still shows a lot of support, and it looks like there will be no decision anytime soon. "Checo's first six races he was very strong," said the team boss, and he still sees the Mexican as the best driver for the second seat at Red Bull. "We will make a decision in the fullness of time," he continued, reaffirming his point that his team will not rush a decision being made regarding their 2025 driver lineup.

Don't pretty much all the drivers live in Monaco these days

For the tax breaks lifestyle

Less than you think. Sainz and Alonso live in Spain. Ocon and Stroll live in Switzerland. KMag in Denmark. Sargent, Oscar, and Zhou live in England. Gasly and Yuki live in Italy.

Gasly and Ocon can't live in Monaco tax-free due to being French apparently.

Monaco is also expensive so newer drivers don't move there until a few years into their career. IIRC Lando only moved there a year or two ago.

According to McLaren, Sainz ramming Piastri resulted in "20 points" of aerodynamic loss, which equates to 0.5 sec/lap. The repairs they did during the red flag reduced the damage to "10 points", or roughly 0.1-0.2 sec/lap. The bigger concern was the impact that it had on OP's ability to keep his tires in good shape, which is why he was unable to stick with LeClerc at the end of the race.

That just highlights even further how poor the track is for racing that he was able to cruise around in second all race without ever really facing a real threat of being passed.

Agreed. Any other track and Sainz would have screwed his race completely.

Among all the complaints about the track. I want to acknowledge again the extraordinary moment of seeing a guy from Monaco winning the Monaco GP.

You've never seen anAustralian win the Aus GP, Japanese win the Japanese GP or Italian win the Italian GP. But you saw a Monegasque win the Monaco GP.

Genuine Halley's Comet moment.

Further confirmation of just how processional the Monaco GP was. According to SpeedCafe, there were only 4 on-track passes completed during the entire race. That's the lowest for the season, beating the 6 overtakes in the Miami Sprint, and 21 overtakes in the China sprint. The next lowest figures for a full GP are 24 (Albert Park), and 25 (Jeddah).

This track really needs to be removed from the fixture list ASAP.

Didn't realise Miami was that bad as well. **** them both off.

Note that's the Miami Sprint race. The real Miami GP saw more overtakes than Monaco, Australia, and Saudi Arabia. The article doesn't mention how many overtakes happened in races other than those I mentioned previously.

Would really love it gone, but…
Don’t be fooled by the “tradition” aspect of this event. It’s all about the rich and the famous having their yearly get together on yachts and showing off their wealth.
No problem with that, but to inflict the most boring race of the year on us because of it just sucks.
