Welcome back mate! I always enjoyed your posts.

Hi All,
Also a long time lurker and thought it was finally time to contribute to the discourse. A few answers to the important questions below.

1) Collingwood

2) Who's your favourite Collingwood player?
With out a doubt all time has to be Nathan Buckley which is why having him as coach is such a special time. It's so rare to have a champion player become a champion coach as well. I'm pretty nostalgic when it comes to Collingwood so anything that cements a club lineage is important to me. I care far more about keeping Collingwood people Collingwood then chasing success by overlooking our own. Give me a team that bleeds black and white with no success over a team of successful mercenaries any day. I think that's why I have connected far greater with Buckley as coach than I ever did with Malthouse or Matthews . In that sense I'm a traditionalist. I just think in the commercialised environment of the AFL, tribalism is so important. No one wants to ever see the Collingwood brand just becoming about success. Success in my opinion is about far more than wins and loses and what the profit looks like at the end of the year. Success is when Collingwood IS Collingwood. Hence why I hate seeing players like Sam Weideman and Ed Richards running around for other clubs, it just kills me. Liam Picken as well but we had our chance. Imagine having Weideman, Richards, Picken running around along side Moore, Diacos and Brown. That's the stuff dreams are made of.

3) What is your favourite Collingwood moment?
Given it still almost feels like yesterday, last years preliminary final. I felt strangely confident before that match (normally the pessimist) and wow was that special.

4) How did you come to be a Pies fan? I actually grew up in Collingwood in the late 80's and 90's so I didn't have a choice. I could see Victoria Park from my bedroom window! and would go to just about every training I could. I love that place and I'm still torn about decision to move the club from its cultural heartland but obviously understand why we did.

Go pies : )

I think it might be time to remove the, (rhetorical) question about who you barrack for.
Thoughts?
Agree totally.
It seems the most illogical question of all.

Ofcourse some posters behave suspiciously like they are not Collingwood but such types would tell fibs anyway to the question.

Executive decision made - done.

G’day all, not quite new, been lurking around for last 10 years, occasionally added a pearl of wisdom but looking to get more involved!
3rd generation pie (at least that I know of!) dating back to 1910, fourth generation well and truly on board, my sons first three songs he could sing were twinkle twinkle little star, in your wincy spider and good old Collingwood forever, and my 1 year old daughter well looks like her first song will be good old Collingwood forever!! It’s in the blood!

Favorite players are like choosing your favorite child but so much love over the years for Darren Millane, Peter Daicos, Monkey, Gavin Brown, Mick McGuane, Athas Hrysoulakis (loved the name as a kid!), Denis Banks then moving onto Nathan Buckley, Paul Licuria, James Clement, Anthony Rocca, Lee Walker, Andrew Schauble, Presti, Scott Burns, Chris Tarrant, Leon Davis then more recently Swanny, Pendles, Daisy, Beamsy, Sidey, Benny Sinclair, Billy, Coxy, Maynard, oh shit, I just live em all!!!!

Best Collingwood moments, watching the 1990 Grand Final with my dad and brother, only to be told at the end of the game that Leigh Matthews grew up at our house, then going to see my Magpie supporting Pa singing the song loud and proud all the way to his house!
2010 prelim final at a bar in Munich hanging sooo bad from Oktoberfest the day before, only to see the majority of the bar jumping and screaming and dancing on the tables to Buddy’s goal, until we hit back to steal it off the ****ers!!!! Then watching the grand final in London just about getting into punch ons with the anti Collingwood mob, having to then take the following week off work to watch the replay, getting to the pub in Wimbledon only to be told no grog! But the 12 hours of drinking afterwards made up for it, along with telling everyone in the pubs 3 villages across how good the pies were sure made up for it. And finally being there in the flesh for our 2019 premiership will top it all off!!

Well that’s enough from me, looking forward to the banter and disagreements on the board!!

Carn the effing maggies!!!!!!!!

Born in 70's from a long line of Pies' supporters. Started actively following in early 80's, which was a tough period for us, much like the late 90's.
I live in Canberra so only get to one or two Pies games per season. My family and I attend more GWS games that Pies but they'll never be more than our 2nd team. I've only been to one GF - the draw in 2010. I knocked back a ticket to the replay, thinking that we'd blown our chance! Shocker!

Fave players......Peter Daicos still No.1 for me, narrowly ahead of Bucks. Loved Picken, Milane, Banks, Gav Brown, Crossisca, Russell, McGuane, Paul Williams, Tarrant, Sav & Ant Rocca, Clement, Licuria, Medhurst, Heater & Swan among past players. Among the current crop, my faves are our trio of ex-Giants, Pendles (although think he should move out of midfield and captaincy), Howe, Elliott, Grundy, Crisp & Maynard. Cox, Stephenson, DeGoey and Sier are exciting up-and-comers too.

Fave Pies moments are not GF wins but our prelim finals demolitions of Geelong in 2010 and Richmond last season. The first half of both games were as close to finals perfection as I've seen us play - and we were underdogs in both. There have been many great ANZAC Day moments too.

GO PIES!

Long time listener, first time caller?

A bit nervous about taking your first tentative steps into the maelstrom that is BigFooty?

That's all cool, we were all newbies once, we know what it's like.

Why not introduce yourself by letting us know a little about yourself.

Here's some questions to help you!:

1) How did you come to be a Pies fan?
2) How old were you when you went to/watched your first game?
3) Who's your favourite Collingwood player?
4) What is your favourite Collingwood moment?

Oh and last, but definitely not least, welcome to the Collingwood forum on BigFooty :thumbsu:

1: Dad played for Wangaratta and Euroa Magpies. Ran around in his oversized jumpers as a kid. Played for Glen Waverley Mudlarks (Black and White Stripes) so seemed destined to choose Collingwood. Uncle is a mad Pies supporter and he may have had a sneaky influence to stir up his big brother.
2: Brain cells fading but 8 or 9 maybe. Father preferred to go surfing so didn’t get to many games as a youngster. Black and White TV remember that!
3: Barry Price, Peter McKenna, Wayne Richardson early. Pendles and Sidey of the current crop.
4: 1990 GF being our first Grand Final victory in my lifetime.

Hi all,

1. Mother’s family are big Richmond supporters from Western District. Father is English with no interest in sport. We all barracked for Richmond until one day I came home from kindergarten and said I no longer barrack for the Tigers and would change to the Pies. I think that must have been August or September 1977. Family all changed with me being mother, one brother and sister save for eldest brother who still supports the Tigers.
2. Probably Victoria Park when 6 or 7. I have vague memories of going out to Moorabbin in the late 1970s and sitting next to dyed in the wool 40 something Collingwood gals with curlers in their hair in readiness for going out on the tear that night. They were colourful - screaming abuse at St.Kilda players and even worse at their own.
3. Barham, Daicos, Medhurst, both Moores.
4. There are many but the prelim in 2010 was a wild party.

Hey! I joined the forum from the USA/Finland because it seemed like fun, and yes, Good Old Collingwood forever!

1. I came to the Pies because of Mason Cox, and following his story. I had liked watching AFL whenever it was available but had no real interest in the teams. Cox got me on board.

2. Well I’ve never been to Australia, but when I was 5 or 6 they had late night AFL to fill air time on ESPN 2. I loved the goal umpires, enough said.

3. Well Mason Cox of course, but De Goey is great and I love Jeremy Howe launching in defense. (Although it seems strange he isn’t in a Melbourne Jersey sometimes)

4. One from old videos on youtube, a commentary of a kick after the siren ”It. Is. A.... Collingwood win!!” Because I love the commentary and the drama. (You have some of the best commentators in all of sport by the way) modern day? The walloping of Richmond last September the day I bought watchafl so as to legally watch the match!

1) How did you come to be a Pies fan? Dad got me onto them as a young kid a while back - Best thing he ever did for me! :)
2) How old were you when you went to/watched your first game? That I remember, 7 or something.
3) Who's your favourite Collingwood player? Of All Time Alan Didak by a country mile.
4) What is your favourite Collingwood moment? Jesus Christ have you got an hour?

Come on, pick one or two. ;)
In recent times, 2011 prelim. 1990 QF replay was awesome, as was the flag that year but I wasn't old enough to care as much as those who endured all 32 yrs of pain. I remember one of my favourite ever games in recent times was our 2012 GF rematch in round 8 vs Geelong which was sealed by Fas and Pendles. 2013 ANZAC game and the 1995 ANZAC game also. 2010 prelim and flag is up there, as is last year's prelim and first quarter of the granny . There's a few great moments.

Hi all,
First time poster but looooong time reader of the Collingwood board...looking forward to taking part in the discussion on here

1) How did you come to be a Pies fan?

My first Collingwood memory is watching the 1990 granny. I was hooked from then on

2) How old were you when you went to/watched your first game?

I can't remember! But I used to absolutely love watching games at Vic Park, the Falls end, under the scoreboard. Some of my best memories were of us dismantling hapless opponents year after year, regardless where we were on the ladder. It was sad to say goodbye to it

3) Who's your favourite Collingwood player?

Daicos, Didak, Pendles

4) What is your favourite Collingwood moment?

Pendlebury's goal from 45 meters at the 20 minute mark of the 2010 prelim v Geelong off his right foot. I remember the pain of the 2007 prelim like yesterday, and this game felt like the moment we took the mantle from the Cats. That goal was and still is the loudest roar I've heard at a Collingwood game. Even watching the replay of it feels just as good 10 years later. the best angle is behind the goals as you see the crowd go up basically as soon as it leaves his boot. It never looked like missing.

Close second is Didak's ridiculous snap off his right foot in the 3rd quarter of the 2010 granny. That's when I started to believe we could win it.

Cheers!

Cheers. I Have the Comic of the TV Series as well sealed up somewhere in the garage. I really loved the Keith artwork in his comics and how they used them in the tv series. Painted him a few times as well and still have them on my wall. Anyway, go Pies!!
