Im so happy I’ve never been able to be a source material twat for anything before:

Better than the first season, but unfortunately not living up to its potential. Can’t fault Cavill, he’s great but the writers have missed what’s great about the story.

Can’t help but think they’ve gone too early with the Ciri stuff. The actress Freya is 20 already and what works so well in the canon is she is a surrogate child for two parents that can’t have kids. Going to be way too old to fill that role. Should be about 12 at this point in the story.
So?

Book readers & gamers just need to enjoy it for what it is. I don't know why writers make wholesale changes to the source material and completely miss the point along the way, but they do. They probably feel they have to make the series their own in some way.

It's better than 1st season. But there is also some GoT S7/S8 teleporting going on.

So what?

It’s my two cents on the show. The games and books are amazing, the show is wasting its opportunity. Not the end of the world but disappointing the mainstream won’t see the universe in the quality it’s been represented at before.

ehhh nah.

The comedy is a large part of the Witcher world which wouldn't fit in a portrayal like that.

I find the comedy that is portrayed in the show as far too light for the universe. I think the comedy that works for the Witcher is done from a place of trauma, like gallows humor, Something a kin to the McDonagh's films.

What a shit way to kill off Eskel. Make him an unlikeable prick, the turn him into some half human/half Leshen and kill him off 5 minutes into the story with no character development. That was weak. I can understand killing off a major character but it needs to be a real punch if you're going to do that.

I loved the second season. But I'm taking it as a person who has never read the books or played the first 2 games.

I really just want to see in season 3:
- The baron (who killed his unborn child and wife from Witcher 3).
- Other Witcher Schools (there were 3 schools in the book).
- Keira Metz... where is that saucy minx?!
- Cmon Zoltan Chivey!

Djikstra was a let down... they needed to expand on Geralt and Djikstra story and feud.

What a mess season 2 was.
Did Eskel (a very agreeable character in the books and game) dirty and had an extremely uninspiring villain.
Why oh why did they not use a character like Gaunter O'Dimm who would interact with the characters with mystery and mayhem? That would've been incredible. Instead we have the cookie-cutter Voleth Meir.
They gave O'Dimm's powerful time stopping power to Fringilla Vigo (an entirely forgettable character in this show).
And somehow Yennefer is even more dislikeable (and vastly more irrelevant) than her book or gaming counterpart.
Also the manifestation of super monsters was equally unenjoyable.
Gerald training with Ciri was the only saving grace and even then didn't really explore the complexities of the characters like the books did.
Really disappointing when the show does take a lot of inspiration for the far superior Witcher 3 game.

Question for book readers, are Duny and Emyhr one and the same in the books? Are they in Witcher 3? I remember coming across some reference to Ciri's parents in my play through, but I never saw anything about the link between them and was always confused by it.

Just caught up.

I agree with Eskel being done dirty, they completely ****ed him up. Same with all the other Witchers in the last ep. Geralt takes down a basilisk himself in like two seconds and all the others (including Vesimir) can barely bring down two between them.
Voleth Meir is part of the Wild Hunt, so fairly significant tie in.
Don't think Fringilla stopped time, she made a comment about slipping a paralysis potion into their drink.
Yenn was shown to be the only one who could teach Ciri to control her powers so fairly relevant, though given she spent pretty much the whole season wandering around powerless, I can see your point.

Overall, I enjoyed it, probably on par with the first season.

Yes, happens before the games. It’s literally the twist of the books, revealed at the end

Key difference is that it's a very, very late reveal in the books (I think it's the last couple of chapters of the final book, from memory). Think Emyhr being Duny is mentioned in some of the lore documents in the game, and his past with Geralt is obliquely mentioned without going into specifics. Him being Ciri's father is openly mentioned in 3 from the get go though IIRC.

Other than the weak villain, I didn't think S2 was too bad - people forget the first couple of books and Blood of Elves were largely world building and place setting as well.

Thought they nailed Djilkstra (I think people are letting his - admittedly great - portayal in Witcher 3, which takes place years later in the timeline after he has a pretty torrid run of bad luck, colour their perceptions) but did Philippa a bit of a disservice. Fringilla's expanded role is also interesting - assuming she's going to become a bit of a composite for Skellen or Rideaux, given where Cahir winds up in the end. Cottringer and Fenn were also great.

Given what's coming for Ciri (particularly the stuff with Bornhardt and The Rats), having her a fair bit older probably isn't the worst outcome - would be somewhat problematic with a child actor.

That first episode of season 2 was strong but I've found myself being just completely bored when Geralt isn't on screen. I find myself zoning out when any of the nilfgaard/political and elf shit is going on. Why am I supposed to give a shit about any of that? I could understand as a backdrop, but it's taking way too much focus off Geralt.

Reckon this show would have been better served as written from Geralt's perspective ala Tony Soprano/Dexter/House etc. The netflix style formula of show making does not suit this kind of show.

Not sure I'll bother with season 3, they'd have to have a pretty drastic change in direction.
