What's happened to Cavill?

People are kidding themselves if they think it's because of the Superman stuff.

He doesn't want to do it anymore cause the show runners and writers have made it pretty clear and even public they don't give a damn about the source material and the writing is genuinely awful.

Season 3 must be an absolute f*uckfest if you manage to make Henry Cavill walk away from his dream role.

"In fall of 2020, Marvel's head of streaming asked me to develop a take to revive this show. From there I pitched it out, was hired. My LP was the first hire, and he brought along all the amazing talent that followed. My general rule was you HAD to be a fan. No questions. I've been on shows - namely The Witcher - where some of the writers were not or actively disliked the books and games (even actively mocking the source material.) It's a recipe for disaster and bad morale. Fandom as a litmus test checks egos, and makes all the long nights worth it. You have to respect the work before you're allowed to add to its legacy."

Damn that’s interesting to read…

Bit disappointing. Probably should have wrapped things and had season 3 as the final, re-casting the lead role is quite the move.

Netflix went all in on this. They have the blood origin show. They have animated shows. Little making of docos. Probably too far down the line to pull the pin.

Probably should have hired more competent writers then!

Writers of these shows just can't seem to accept they are there to adapt a successful product to a new medium. If they want to do something completely different, then pitch your own show and see who thinks you're a literary genius and picks it up! Witcher season 2 started diverging more from the books, no doubt season 3 will be even worse. None of these shows seemed to have learnt from how Game of Thrones went into the toilet once they passed the source material and started freelancing. Although it hasn't reached the level of shitting on the source material The Wheel of Time has yet, they've taken a piss on it and are getting ready to squat down.

Both Witcher and Wheel of Time made the stories more generic and shlocky than the originals. Changing the source material isn't inherently bad (see Kubrick) but I've got no idea how creators get passionate enough about their own vision to alter the story when that vision is derivative trash.

Lauren Hissrich who is the show runner has a pretty competent background. Was a staff writer for the West Wing, A producer/writer for Power, a producer/writer for Daredevil (including wrote the 7 minutes in Heaven episode which is ****ing outstanding, IMO the best on the show). I think she lost her way writing for Umbrella Academy, brought in a lot of the writers from that, who based off their twitter profiles are all a bit too worried about activism.

We were only just saved from Ciri being redone as a non-white chick. For new movies and TV shows SHOULD have a diverse cast. When you're adapting an existing story, though don't go making wholesale changes to ethnicity / look, gender, orientation, beliefs of characters, storylines that aren't '2022 friendly' etc.

Ciri being non-white would have made zero difference to anything, except to the usual suspects.

Except it wouldn't have been not adapting one of the two central characters (along with Geralt) of The Witcher books. Same as if Ciri had been black in the books, it would have screwed things making her white in the show.
