Had one good game. Lucky for him it was a GF. If he can't hit his straps next year and become a dominant forward with that midfield he will never be any more than serviceable.
He won the Dogs a flag. If he never plays again he is worth every cent.

Our midfield is dominant in terms of winning contested ball, but delivery into the forward line is still very poor. If there's a stat on disposal efficiency when going into the forward 50 I'd love to see it, as I'm sure we'd be towards the bottom. Tom also needs to work on his lead-up game.

But the fact that his "one good game" (he's actually played many good games and one dominant game) was the GF already means that the trade and contract are totally vindicated.

I know you're being facetious but no one thinks the Tom Boyd trade was a bad one. It's the ridiculous sum of money he's being paid is what makes it laughable.

FWIW I think Boyd's tracking along nicely and will justify his contract soon enough.

Understand your point but I think many view the trade and contract together, since the former wouldn't have occurred if not for the size of the latter.

Fremantle's collective trades or non-trades have resulted in a lot premierships for other clubs.

Traded Norm Smith medalist Andrew Mcleod for Chris Groom = 2 premierships

Struck a deal with Essendon which meant they missed out on Matthew Lloyd = 1 premiership

Delisted Peter Bell = 2 premierships

Traded pick 5 to Brisbane (Luke Power) for Adrian Fletcher + 26 = 3 premierships

The infamous Croad + McPharlin trade which gave Hawks Norm Smith medalist Hodge and Mitchell = 4 premierships

Within their first 6 years they helped teams win or establish 12 premierships.

Thankfully after 2001 they got better.

Although there are some other ripping trades that didn't end up gifting premierships, such as trading pick 3 + Phil Matera for David Hynes

And trading Bell back in for Jess Sinclair + pick 6, 8 & 37!

IIRC, they took Andrew Wills and Stephen O'Reilly from us for a pick which ended up to be Steven King, who was a part of the 2007 premiership...

There is only one trade you need to consider in this discussion. At the start of 1971 StKilda traded Ian Stewart, dual Brownlow medalist and the best midfielder in the game at the time, to Richmond for Billy Barrot.

Barrot played 2 games for the Saints and Saints lost the 1971 GF by 7 points.

Stewart won a Brownlow at Richmond in 1971 and went on to help them win two flags.

No other trade comes close.

Jed Anderson for pick 15 is the worst in recent memory
