Hawthorn get pick one for Trent Croad and Luke McPharlin. Fremantle end up losing Trent Croad who goes back to Hawthorn.

Therefore Fremantle traded the number one pick for Luke McPharlin. In 2001 when the draft was considered the ultra draft, that was pretty dumb. Not sure who Fremantle would have picked if they had pick one but I would have Luke Hodge, Chris Judd, Luke Ball or Jimmy Bartel over Luke McPharlin any day of the week.

Brisbanes Fevola trade has prob made the biggest impact to any club.

Crows trading pick two (Daniel Wells) for Wayne Carey when he was 31 in 2002 was pretty dumb as well.
Freo trumped that before they even played a game - Gerald Neesham met with Andrew McLeod in 1994 in his makeshift office, and told McLeod that he didnt want to pick him because he was wearing earrings and if you're wearing earrings you're not serious about footy

That McLeod guy never stood up in finals though

Also can anyone tell me what Hawthorn have traded for Hale, Gibson and Burgoyne?

Certainly not THE worst trade ever (even as a collective), but am i right to say they've traded 6 pretty good picks for:
  • an average ruckman that was considered the #2 ruckman at Nth Ballarat last year in the vfl,
  • an ok mid sized defender and
  • a silky midfielder with a recent history (at time of trade) of injury, who's coming to the end of his career.
6 potentially decent youngsters would be preferable to what they'll get out of those 3....

.

Ouch

Always thought that was a dreadful deal as we gave up our second best player in Paul Williams who went on to win 2 Sydney B&fs, in order to gain a draft pick to facilitate that deal.

Clement was never going to win us a flag, but in 2002, Williams may have.

Clement was a great pick up, not just for his playing ability, but his off field work as well. Though Paul Williams may well also, James Clement would easily make Collingwood's best 22 of the AFL era.

Could you imagine other clubs trading their reigning B'n'F winner for pick 88? I thought they were trying to win the flag next year.

If any other club did it they would be canned however the Hawks do it and clarko is a genius...

Like with all trades, have to wait on this one. No one has called Clarkson a genius yet for this one - just praised him for having the balls to take a risk.

is the worst trade when there are no winners?

Fergus Watts (son of then CEO of the saints) to St Kilda for 2005 first round selection pick 17,

Watts played 1 game before being delisted,

Darren Pfeiffer was selected with pick 17 and played zero games before being delisted.

With all due respect to Fergus, probably didn't get a fair go at Adelaide early on, then wanted to come home, then snapped his ankle in his third game back in Melbourne, and had several operations, including having his plantar fascia removed entirely. He played A section ammos for Collegians the year after getting the chop and despite barely being able to run, he still managed to kick a shitload of goals and carry them into the granny.

Like with all trades, have to wait on this one. No one has called Clarkson a genius yet for this one - just praised him for having the balls to take a risk.

It's a great trade for everyone. No risks involved.

Rhys Stanley for 21

Not even close.
You could argue we paid overs, and St. Kilda's Hugh Goddard still has a long career in front of him, but Stanley has stood up in the ruck over the past two years where others have fallen by the wayside. He's been ok. Often threatens to grab games by the scruff of the neck, and has played maybe 2-3 real crackers in his time at the club.
Allan Christensen's career at Brisbane is going nowhere; sad, as he was one of my favourites at Geelong while he was there.

Spot on re: Stanley.

Christensen has had injuries yeah? I distinctly remember how he done his shoulder this year - 1AW's finest work - rivals his Carlisle grab imo

Rhys Stanley for 21
At the moment this one seems ok, stanley is by no means a star, but he is a very versatile player for us between rucking and playing foward... A second round pick for that seems pretty fair id of thought.

Jed Anderson?

Can't remember a player being so far off AFL standard.
a guy by the name of nick gill played for the crows a few years ago, he literally didn't know where the ball was going when he kicked it...... Anderson at least knows his is going to the opposition :)

Wont stop Anderson playing 150 games at North. Rekn he may even play 20 good ones.

It's strange players don't want to come to North. As a ring-in you're guaranteed games regardless of form.
