I was trying to think what the Seinfeld characters would do in my situation. I think Jerry would have let the old acquaintance stay but constantly complained about it. George would have told him that he was busy taking his parents to the Hamptons before awkwardly bumping into him. Mines been consigned to a drawer in the workbench for years.

Still just use knuckles to tap along the wall looking for a solid sound.
Generally about 16-18 inches between studs so move down and try again to confirm

But eventually your 'drilling for oil' method will yield a positive result!

Might end up looking likje this though...

Yep we did the knock and knew it was there and the stud finder sort of confirmed it if I was holding it the right way haha, luckily the tv is hiding the holes.

Haha it’s insane, ours is hanging with two screws in wood and two just in gyprock with wall buddy screws.

Takes me a minute to get out of it these days. And thats the TVs fault the flog
