For us to turn it around there have been some worrying trends.

I used to love it when it rains cos it meant we were likely to win. But now the space of 2 years, we have gone from the best wet team to one of the worst dumb handball happy in pouring rain team. Crazy. Just gotta wonder if we have any brains in the coaching box as all the good assistants have left.

We need a brain coaching which we don't have and some are finding out now to which some others have known. We apparently addressed our midfield and we are losing games mainly because of them. Our forward line is dysfunctional no end and our once proud record of keeping players fit and on the park is gone. Lets face it our golden era has come to the end and unlike others watching the vfl does not give me any confidence for the near future.

Perfect opportunity to get some games in to the kids. But also I think some statements need to be made with senior players. For mine, Cotchin, JR, Grimes, Tarrant should not be playing at the expensive of kids IF they are not performing. Grimes for mine looks like he has fallen off a cliff. Just because hes captain doesn't mean he cant be dropped. would of loved to see Bradtke replace Lynch and given a crack but unfortunately he got injured too.

for rainy days its simple ! ban farrken handballing unless the player is on their own ! kick the farrken thing long everytime and we win

To me football is all about the enjoyment of watching young players get a chance and come on, especially after our recent success. All those years between the success of the 60's to 80's of watching bog average kids coming in, getting their 20 odd games and disappearing into the SANFL seconds or up country and we run an honourable 9th has taught me to enjoy real talent when it comes through. Probably why I was so cut up about Stack last year, could see exceptional talent getting pissed away.

We have no option now to play those kids with talent now. Players like Young come in out of the blue and look right at home. Sonsie will get better and better. Miller and Ryan now have a real chance to cement their places on the list. Ryan is still a year off strength wise, but Miller is now or never. Rucking all week in the VFL was great timing. Both can play forward as legitimate targets rather than second fiddle to Lynch. Hopefully it stops bloody raining.

Thought all our kids last week were the shining lights, other than Dusty who looked really sharp. The are all skilled and quick which is great to watch. The pressure is back on the senior players to step up. Thought Vlastuin looked good on the weekend. Both he and Grimes gave it away uncharacteristically but I'm pretty sure they will respond to the pressure.

The footy world in particular the media can't wait for us too fail, so much disrespect at times for a 3 x Premiership side. The new and young players in particular now have a chance to start their own legacy.

Can someone forward this on to the coach in case he needs some hackneyed motivational pre-game speech.

All good points in regards to our developing young players and especially the disrespect shown by the complete footy world to a 3 times GF Team!

I think the reason for this is we don’t play the same game plan anymore. Also other teams have copied us so we don’t have the tactical advantage we once had. Things have evened right up and we are still adjusting to the rule changes. Changing the rules so dramatically has caused a huge pivot for the club.

I’ve seen enough to think we are still an excellent team. Not the best team this year probably but still formidable when we are up and going. We virtually never get blown away by obviously superior opposition. We also try to build into the season every time. I think the expectation should be fairly even wins and losses to roughly halfway, then reassess where we are at and either drop away or go for it.

But most importantly we are really well run now. My gut feel is that the club think they aren’t really in contention this year but are building nicely. I was confused about where we were at from 2021 to now but I’m starting to gain confidence. The media is absolutely hysterical and over-reactive, it’s hilarious. The reality is that we have played some top teams who are up and about and even Adelaide have a lot to prove and are clearly improving. Doggies are a really good team. Collingwood are an excellent team. I’m not worried at all.

I agree great opportunity but I think some expectations on seeing if young players are up to it is a bit of wishful thinking. Usually takes 25 to 50 games to see that. we aren't going to get that after 6 or 7 weeks.
I think some players yeah, as they could be in that bracket but most of our key position players won't be.

The only positive is the pressure is off, no one seriously expects us to win much now, so we can concentrate on planning for the future look of the team.

I think our depth in youth is pretty decent and we aren't in that bad a place like the clowns in the media are trying to indicate.

Just had a rotten time with injuries even before R1.
Every bloody tall is injured atm,our backups for a backup.

Yep, I think the game results might get a bit more worse before it gets better, some of our supporters aren't going to handle it very well.

Due to unforeseen circumstances season 2023 has just become a lot more interesting for us Tigers fans.

With Lynch and Nankervis both going down with medium/long term injuries and Soldo still being a few weeks away we're going to have little choice but to rely on the likes of Miller & Ryan to carry the load both in the ruck and up forward. Down back we've finally settled Balta as a KPD and Tylar Young has shown plenty of promise playing as the 2nd KPD with Grimes as a mentor to both.

We've also seen the injection of youth with the likes of Ross Mansell Maurice Sonsie Cumberland Clarke & Ralphsmith all getting a chance so far in the first month of footy. Odds are that we're likely to continue to see the kids getting an opportunity and for mine I believe this is a great opportunity for Dimma and the club to really see where we stand in terms of establishing the next era of Richmond premiership success.

By time Tom & Toby return we'll have a fairly good indication as to whether Miller & Ryan are the answers we're looking for as far as ruck/KPF go. With the back line likely to come under a bit more pressure we'll get more of an idea about Young as a long term option and then there is the likes of Ross Mansell Maurice Sonsie Cumberland Clarke & Ralphsmith plus Banks Dow Green Brown Bauer Bradtke(when he recovers from a broken hand) & Biggie who should all be looking at putting their names forward over the next 6-10 weeks.

As far as I'm concerned wins & losses no longer hold the same importance as they did heading into the season, I actually expected us to be mid table anyway. However now the real interest is in how many of the young kids yet to really establish themselves can step up and show something for 2024 and beyond. This season is far from dead and there is plenty left to gain from it, but the rewards may not be what a lot of us were expecting when sitting there over summer excited by the addition of a couple of ready mades in Taranto & Hopper and how it was going to vault us back into contention for the flag.
I don't mind a bit of a down year in building towards a future premiership and developing players, the sad and frustrating part is that if we are going to have a year where we don't win as many as we want, and potentially might even miss finals, is that we don't finish with a first round pick to support that rebuilding year, which is a real shame.

The Taranto and Hopper acquisitions were win-now plays, designed to capatalise on Dusty, Grimes, Riewoldt, Lynch, etc. while they were still around, it'll be a swing and a miss if we don't contend in the next year or two IMO based on that trade and the draft capital it cost us.

Really, really keen for Miller and Ryan to get a solid look of 6-8 games as two vital cogs rotating ruck and KPF most likely.

Just gotta keep the Tiger tails up and watch the cubs improve.

Most of our young players whilst not having the 25 to 50 games are not brand new either. Cumberland is 23, Young 24, Milkler 24, Ryan 22, Ross 22, MRJ 20, HRS 21, Balta 23, Gibcus, Sonsie, Dow and a few others are all getting seasoned whether through the VFL or AFL and all have shown a fair bit.

They will be busting a gut to play as well.

Getting Tarranto and Hopper were must gets, everyone carrying on like these guys are towards the end of their careers isn't right.

Yeah, they were brought in to help hopefully pinch 1 more flag for our older guys but that isn't going to happen now, it's fanciful thinking we can do that without Lynch for 2 months, we just won't win enough games.

We need to plan for a future, give Cotch and Jack their deserved send off's but it won't be under a winning season, more a thanks for the memories.

The sky isn't falling. In fact the skies are just opening up.

Is everyone devastated? A draw to the Blues, a 14pt loss to the AFL "Benchmark" and a 5pt loss to the Dogs is just utter devastation at the club. Our whole future has been sold for Taranto & Hopper and I hear our season is over? and we've got injuries  well....at least we do have the media on our side 😂

I've never been more excited to blood the youth, we're 1-2-1 with the old guard. We have nothing to lose with x3 Premierships in bank. Bring it on 2023.

We definitely paid overs but I think the Taranto and Hopper trades will work really well for us as players retire and within the next few seasons we would have Taranto, Hopper + our youngsters. Hopefully the midfield mix is Sonsie, Bolton, Graham and Banks going forward. It's a shame that we won't see for a few seasons whether RFC's list regeneration strategy works, but overall it seems to be tracking in the right direction. I also think going forward some of our younger players will request trades, and even though I want them to stay I can see both Ross and Cumbo leaving for more opportunities (Banks too if Tassy comes in). In that sense while we don't have immediate draft capital, I wouldn't be surprised if we do get some going forward meaning we have enough young talent coming in.

Still, I am hoping we have a bit of a 2019 season where the youth inject some fresh energy into the team.

I think there’s still much to be made of the year , not overly concerned losing nank , like Coll with Grundy last year I’m fairly sure miller can stand in without losing much
Lynch is massive and his hobbling 15min into second after already nailing 2G arguably cost us the game,,, again lesser sides than us have setup a winning f50 , look at unbeaten saints lead by Higgins and a 4 gamer , we too have several avenues that can open up

The kids we got in have all got upside and have demonstrated they can make us compete v qty oppo

I’m excited , just don’t want anymore casualties and look forward to a few more players being avail in next couple of weeks

It's really not that bad, square the next two games and we go to Round 7 with Broad, Short and possibly Graham back in the side for the GC, WCE, GEE, ESS, PA and GWS run. A run that should deliver a 5-1 return IMO
