Sorry but I am female and I totally disagree - ANY form of abuse or violence whether it be physical or verbal should not be tolerated regardless of what sex the person is.

And fair enough if you, as a woman, disagree. But men should share this opinion more than women. All men know hitting women is totally unacceptable, but as I outlined before, there are circumstances where I believe hitting men is okay! Eg. If a guy was forcefully coming on to my girlfriend, didn't respond to a verbal dissuasion, then I would deem it fine for me to put him on his arse. If a woman was doing the same to my girlfriend o), it would not be okay to do the same.

Not sure where the Jones' come from?? - but anyone who has lived in the city knows when to shut up and keep walking. Both groups had their words and then separated - it was over. Brad Jones went back at them probably 3 times. His wife was yelling at him to shut up and pulling him away but he kept pushing her off and going back at the guy and then he threw a punch at the big one. He was a victim of his own stupidity as much as anything else.

Unfortunately if what you are saying is true just might see these guys get out of this with just a stern warning.....

was at the game and eft just before the siren with my dad. walked out onto the concourse outside gate 5 and this bloke with his shirt off was screaming black and F***ing white and was clearly looking for a fight. Was a pretty big unit and I thought he was on drugs or drink (and a fair bit of roid rage).

He walked across our path and was clearly looking for a fight and we walked away. This other bloke told him to cool it so the idiot without the shirt walked up to him and said what did you say and headbutted him. After this he basically started laying into him and his two hero mates turned up getting in on the action as well.

When the cops came along and finally arrested two of them the one that started the whole scene was claiming the victim had actually attacked him out of nowhere. We told one of the security guards what had happened and the shirtless moron was promptly arrested along with his drop kick mates.

There were plenty of collingwood supporters around there hurling abuse at these three idiots and none where impressed about their behaviour. These 3 were animals that just happened to barrack for Collingwood. Someone later said to me typical collingwood supporters blah blah which is about as original and true as Melbourne supporters and the snow to be honest. Each club has idiot supporters and these just happened to be collingwoods.

We sat at the ground around some collingwood supporters and aside from only having one eye open when some umpiring decisions went against them were perfectly fine to sit next to all day. Is unfair to tarnish a whole club because of 3 idiots IMO.

FWIW I hope those morons go to jail and get banned from footy. They committed a fairly low act and at least one of the punches landed on a defenseless 14 year old kid.

What I am very confused about with this whole thing, is when I came out, the shirtless person was Nathan Jones' Dad, so are you saying that it was him that was starting the fight? Then you say the two mates jumped in, so I figure the shirtless guy was NOT Jones, because Jones was the one that was bashed by three guys, so I figure there were two shirtess guys. One at the start, and Jones, perhaps losing his in the fight.

Please clear this one up, it's done me head in since Sunday.

ALSO, I would like to ask, how I will stop myself getting dragged into the footy thug group in future. If I was Brad Jones, and a guy come up to me saying what did you just say, if I was the one that told him to cool it, (probable, given I go with three kids), I would be throwing punches left right and centre, to get this idiot well and truely out of my personal zone. I would probably look like the instigator. Brad Jones had every reason to protect himself, and quickly, but he hesitatated, and ended up worse for wears. He could of fallen, and smacked his head, and died. I don't want to give another guy the chance, so I too will be looked at as a thug one day.

If someone is within half a meter of you, I can't see how waiting for the headbut, before you realise this joke of a guy isn't kidding, can help anyone but him. Years ago, I gave people the benefit of the doubt, and tried to talk my way out, and I always got hit, and unable to get back into the fight, now, I am less lenient, and one day it probably will end me up in trouble, but I'd rather that trouble, than my three kids looking down at me on the ground, full of blood or dead.

Look!! I wasn't there, and can only say what I think from this quoted post, which seems to be 100% sensible. If you have a wife and youngster to go to the footy with, then your #1 responsibility is to care for their well being and safety.

I would go one further and say, if you have any problem these days, stay back and use your mobile to ring for the police and let them handle it. I did note that quite a few bystanders (standing well back) had their mobiles pointed at the fracas to record the whole incident ( for police evidence I hope).

I had witnessed the Essendon guy some weeks ago at the NAB cup behaving like a pratt, and I posted that "Obnoxious behavior" thread here. I was stunned that several guys here asked why I didn't go up to the guy to tell him to behave. I would have had my lights punched out, that's why.

Whenever anyone goes up to a person looking for a fight, then you just get yourself involved; just use your mobile and dial 000, and call the police. That's the best advice anyone can give.

You can get up to 15 years for "recklessly causing serious injury" 10 years for affray & not in his favour is it doesn't seem like he was high or drunk.

The father of the guy who didnt get bail was the guy who shot Kay Nesbit in the face with a shotgun in 1985. He only did 7 years for it.

So i wouldn't expect the courts to be too harsh im afraid. Even though he was already out on bail for another assault charge.
