THE MCG'S expectation of a mammoth weekend looks likely after sales for Saturday night's preliminary final between Hawthorn and St Kilda grew by almost 12,000 in 24 hours after the release of tickets to the general public.
The League reported that 44,627 tickets had been sold by 5pm on Tuesday afternoon, with a similarly-timed statement released on Wednesday announced that 56,579 were taken.
Sales for Friday night's clash between Geelong and the Western Bulldogs climbed from 48,682 to 55,589 on a day the minor premier declared half-forward Paul Chapman would miss with a hamstring strain.
Last year's preliminary final between Geelong and Collingwood attracted 98,002 spectators to the venue, while 43,953 watched Port Adelaide belt North Melbourne at AAMI Stadium a day later.
