If Mobbs had found someone interested, they'd already be captain!

Now onto the club now with the greatest longevity across what could be considered their modern 'era', the Roys.

With a pedigree that reaches all the way back to S18 and Reardo 's season at the helm. S18 of course marked the season the competition expanded to 12 teams with the inception of the rebooted Bears and my beloved Warriors. The Dees would salute after a season of dominance as they delivered on their minor premiership finish to win the cup, Hall of Famer brahj was the EKA winner that season, Wacky Tiger won the Mobbs Medal and iBeng won the second of their back to back Fred Medals for the Bombers. Incredibly, 9 players remain on the Roys list in S38, a mere 21 seasons on... 3KZ is Football, Chezzalenko Reborn, Dicky Fitzwell, fitzroybowiedog, Mobbs, Mooch, Reardo himself, royboy2 & Roylion all reside on the Roys list.

The following season would see Hall of Famer fitzroybowiedog take the reigns, and he would repay this faith by becoming the club's (at the time) longest serving skipper as he guided the Roys through a halcyon era of activity and engagement.

A number of household Roys names of yore would establish themselves throughout this period, with players like Allikat, Barrels, TedDougChris and Wise Guy Sam all emerging, while fitzy would establish himself as one of the greatest captains of not only his era, but arguably in league history. His loyalty and leadership ultimately paid off in S25, as the Roys would break their 22 season drought to raise the cup after dispatching a brave Sin City outfit by a comfortable 26 points.

In fact it was S25 when fitzy's eventual successor would join the club, and after a 3 season apprenticeship, TedDougChris assumed the mantle ahead of the S28 season with incredibly big shoes to fill. It would prove to be an era of transition for the Roys, as their elder statesmen would slip into activity while some of their household names would also hang up the boots or had already moved on. But it was more of a rollercoaster era than plunge, as they would also experience a resurgence in the early S30s that saw them attract some of the league's greatest identities (Wosh & Dingster instantly come to mind) and also zackah was there. It was S33 where they would again salute with this wunderteam, however just a season or so on and the going would again get tough. TDC proved to be one of the league's most selfless skippers during this time, as he not only rode the pine for the better part of two seasons by choice, but the maniac also willingly remained in committee through this time.

But after 9 seasons, having equalled his predecessor's club record for captaincy, the well respected TDC would retire in a shock move that left Mobbs to step in and right the ship. Now with 2 seasons under his belt, it's fair to say that the Roys have recovered somewhat, with a promising season of activity and engagement setting a solid platform amidst a league residing in struggle town.

Onto the Rats now, a club whose modern era stretches back to S26 when a pre-Upper Murray Defense League Far Kern was up and about, and at a time when they had the Qooty world at their feet. Whether it was winning a ludicrous three Mobbs Medals on the trot, featuring in three Prelims out of three seasons of his reign including a premiership in S27 and a minor premiership the following season in S28. The Rats could do no wrong.

With old school Swampies like Dingster, Ant Bear, GotTheGoodes and rookie sensation Nunez, Kern had a charmed squad at his disposal and they wrung every drop out of that list potential. But they weren't done yet.

Whilst Far Kern would end up stepping down ahead of the S29 season for reasons unknown, the Rats juggernaut would plough on unhindered as a leadership transition to a co-captaincy model with club legend philreich & up and comer Restricted Free Agent in tandem took place and ultimately culminated in another premiership by a solitary point in his first season at the helm. Add another Grand Final appearance the following season and yet Mobbs Medallist in S30 as Nunez collected his second, and Qooty seemed pretty easy down at Sin City.

But list wise, they surprisingly hadn't managed to lure any big names as some of the heroes of this era would make way to other clubs or inactivity, as philreich would largely shoulder the load during this rebuilding phase as the Rats would find themselves out of contention during the early S30s and consistently missing finals.

They enjoyed a brief resurgence off field in S33 as Kennedy Parker joined the fold and assumed co-captaincy for the season with phil, however he would step back from captaincy to assume the Sweet FA admin role for his second stint leaving phil to lead solo. During this time they brought in some league legends over the next few seasons including KP obviously, spookism & a reinvigorated ShaunDuggan (okeydoke7 was also brought in) and a few up and comers like Catsnlakers and Grav to name a few, and they looked to have turned the corner. But they remained in the wilderness Qooty wise, only featuring in finals once for an Elimination Final loss.

Come S36 and philreich was finally able to step back after a stint of 7 seasons being a mainstay of the Rats leadership, as long time deputy jackster83 stepped in. This change signalled a change of fortunes for the Swampies, as they would go deep into finals in S36, and the following season would find themselves back into the decider, this time to face the Old Boys expansion side as they suffered a close 16 point loss.

Having secured the services of the ex Wonders skipper in S37, come S38 jackster83 would hand the reigns over to damicky in just the cheese's second season at the club, allowing him to assume his customary position of co-captain alongside philreich who was also partial to a bit of sharing the load, and the two co-parented their Rats through almost an entire season. The highlight arguably being the recruitment of former Dragons skipper serial_thrilla given their second last finish on the ladder, before the season was even finished co-captain philreich announced his defection to their S37 GF vanquishers at Spotswood, and damicky was left to hand over the responsibility to his former Wonders teammate DenieD for S39, despite the fact the latter was yet to actually join the club. So the Rats will enter Season 39 with an intriguing mix of players, and without philreich for the first time since S24 oh and with a new captain in their first season at the club.

There's something to be said for stability, as we look now to one of the most well run clubs of the modern era, the Demons. Stretching back 14 seasons in what has proven to be an almost unbroken era for what has remained roughly the same squad over this journey, that puts them 2nd overall when comparing clubs on the longevity of their current eras.

It all reaches back to S25 as 500 gamer cats2rise led no less than 9 players from their current S38 squad, amongst other household names like Rodney Dangerfield and long term Dee Tarkyn_24. It would prove to be his only season at the reigns, with the club's best and fairest winner Yakker leapfrogging vice captain sante (naked of course, I assume) into the captaincy for S26.

The Yakker era was arguably one of the most sustained periods of form & success the league has seen in the modern era, so much so that it saw him assume the self dubbed title of 'Mr 74%' a mantle backed by an incredibly impressive winning percentage during his time at the helm. The Dees would go on to salute in his first season in charge, as they absolutely pantsed the NaturalDisaster led Furies in that season's decider, to the tune of 87 points in one of the great Sweet FA hidings.

After a narrow Preliminary Final loss in S27, Yakker made the shock decision to step down as he anointed the clear successor to the throne, manangatang, who had made an instant impact since crossing over from the Furies ahead of the S26 season.

And it would prove to be a sustained and storied impact that mang would go on to have on his beloved Dees, one marked by a period of dominance and success rivalling his successor, but with greater individual honours coming his way as he proved not only to be one of the league's leading and most well respected skippers and committee contributor, but he would also contend heavily in successive beez Trophies, having won in S28 with a stellar field of contenders nipping at his heels.

He would ultimately be recognised by Kennedy Parker during his second admin reign with the creation of the GM of Qooty, a credit to mang's contributions and nous with league strategy and his leadership. A role that realistically only ever made sense for mang, if it ever really made sense at all. In an era where his contemporaries had long since handed over the reigns to their successors, mang would lead the Dees over a 10 season stretch, including a 2nd premiership with this group in S31 to cap off the most successful era of the club's history between Yak & mang.

Quite suddenly but perhaps unsurprisingly in hindsight, mang would pass the mantle to club talisman Headless, another 500 gamer of the greatest pedigree who assumed the captaincy ahead of S38 and looks to continue much in the same vein we have come to expect from a Dees skipper. With a squad arguably even better than their S25 version, with league stalwarts and legitimate superstars like Wosh, Hate and Marlowe amongst their ranks, add to that one of the league's brightest up and coming stars in Gralin, the Dees look as well placed as any club for another sustained period of success and prowess.

Until I finally overhaul my persona from the egotistical blustering full forward to the senior, modern and inclusive ‘wokeydoke7’ to secure my Hall of Fame immortal status.

Ahh the Wonders.

We pick up things at the Colosseum back in S30, where we find the short strawed Sab22 trying to pick up the pieces after no less than 4 of their top half a dozen players - Ant Bear, Broken, Elton Johns Wig & TRUMAN#1 all vacated their lockers at West Coast at the crescendo of their ultimately failed 'Last Dance' bid together.

Mercifully Sab22 would be put out of his misery come S31, as new recruit and plucky former Bomber Cadsky (Moz, Mozzie19, whichever one of his several name changes he happened to be at this point!) would step straight into captaincy in his debut season at the club. The Wonders would lose further talent as the emerging Bonz headed for Dragon Island, and a raft of new mostly returning recruits failed to spark. On field however, the made a promising finals run leading to a Prelim Final and Cadsky now had a season under his belt.

With the benefit of understanding his list after a season at the helm, the Wonders undertook a recruiting spree as they brought in a quality handful of players in former Hawks skipper Loonerty, a brash young rookie named Brenton Davy, the surprise returnee Frothies Mcveigh and another household name in Golumless. With more talent at his disposal, Cadsky and co would continue to cobble together a reasonably strong squad during this period. Quality additions like SM, NinjaSwan, Cubs2Lions and future skippers damicky & AnUltimateRessie in S33 further allowed the list to turnover and whilst a different offering, the Wonders had returned to somewhat near the level we had come to expect from the foundation club during the Wigs/Ding era.

In fact Cadsky was so satisfied that the job was done by this stage, that he would request delisting and accept an enlistment at the Furies in S34 mid-season. This of course cleared the way for his deputy Brenton Davy to join new recruit damicky as co-captains to see out the season. And so began the damicky and friends era.

Over 3 and a half seasons at the helm, damicky would rotate through his friends each season, as he sought to build on the platform his mentor Cadsky had left in his capable hands. First Brenton Davy, then onto Frothies Mcveigh for S35. Recruitment stalled after a couple of seasons of strong activity as only MayTheNorthBeWithU was brought in and survived. However he not only survived but thrived as he would win an EKA Medal so that's something to hang a hat on. Another thing to hang one's hat on is a very close loss in a Grand Final, as the Wonders would push the Old Boys all the way to the line in a thriller in the S35 decider.

Yet another co-captaincy change occurred in S36 as the returned and reinvigorated HARPSichord joined the cheese at the wheel, and the recruitment ramped up again with a slightly warped DenieD making his return to Qooty amongst a raft of list fodder. It was a season that saw a mini exodus though, as not one but two of damicky's former co-captains, Brenton Davy AND Frothies Mcveigh both left the club in what was quite the surprising development. In fact, the disquiet become something of a roar as the season bore on, with several tongue in cheek media pieces doing the rounds undermining the tenuous Cheese supremacy at the Colosseum.

And so come the completion of S36, the Cheese would leave for swampier pastures as he made his way to the Underground and chase his dreams of making more co-captaincy friends at Sin City, and the emerging AUR would step into the role in a full chested, Solo man style whole of job effort to lead the Wonders back out of what had become somewhat of a quagmire of the not so giggity variety.
