Its a fairly common practice in other professional sports like soccer
The coach is more of a manager, who makes the strategic moves on game day, list management etc and lets the trainers do all the skills work at training
The trainers/assistant coaches are usually specialists in a particular area so let them do their job in the area they are good at and leave the bigger picture to the coach

how was rodan looking?
was staff with the main group?
how did shultz go?

your answers would be appreciated ta.

Rodan always looks good to me when he has the ball. It's just a matter of him getting it enough times and then not trying to overuse it I reckon. He does look noticeably bigger though and maybe a little more relaxed.

Schulz matched up on Richo and Simmonds in a few marking contest drills and was trying hard. He seems okay in the physical contests but dropped off on the lead quite noticeably. Mind you there's no disgrace in that against Richo. I think he'll take time to find his feet back there.

Spot on Infamy. All the clubs do it I guess. Royal comes with terrific credentials so no doubt Wallace has complete faith in him, and of course they've worked together before. He seems to be the main man when leading drills.

Anybody go to training today??? From all reports on the news, we got a decent sized crowd down there! Apparently Tambling trained well and is in the running for selection.

Apart from the 10 second snippet on the news, i don't know anything else

Tambling hobbled off Punt Road today after suffering some sort of injury to his knee or back.

Just saw TW on white line fever. Tambling has a back injury and will be in doubt for the next few weeks. It was sustained in a tackle.

This isn't about training specifically, but still a funny little anecdote.

I was at Training last Thursday before the Carlton match, hanging around afterwards because my girlfriend wanted to get some autographs. Hilton was the first out the 'Players Only' door ready to sign, but no-one asked him. He looked a little bewildered and walked off. Later Rodan, Kellaway and Roach all walked out separately and signed a few things.

When Tuck walked out everyone mobbed him, looks like he's becoming a new favourite which was good to see, but the funny thing was about 15 seconds later some guy says "Isn't that Richo getting into his car?" and straight away every person there rushed off to catch up with the big fella. Poor Tuck was left standing there by himself, shook his head and walked off with a wry smile.

I got down to training today fella's and i have to tell you....the boys are looking REALLY good. It was about an hour in duration and they looked sharp and precise.

Here is a run down;

- Stafford, Rodan, Hartigan and Limbach were all doing handball drills. Staff then went into the rooms not to be seen again, whilst Rodan, Hartigan and Limbach did laps.

- Caught a glimpse of TW talking in depth to Patto. Moment i saw that, knew he was in this week. The kids looks great. Clean pair of hands and looked to be enjoying the contest with Richo

- The amount of talking at training was very impressive. The boys were very vocal, backing each other and directing each other through out all the drills.

- Skills were sharp, kicking especially. Very impressed with Tiva, kicking was SUPERB today and he was running like he had hot coals in his pants.

- Deledio disappeared at the end of training. Dunno what was going on there, didn't see anything to sinister. Maybe just needed to go and drain the main vain! ;)

- The man behind the man, Choco Royal needs to be given a truckload of praise. I think his work isn't brought to light enough. He practically ran the session today, whilst Wallace just addressed the players at the beginning and end of the session, whilst also speaking to individual players during training.

Overall training was impressive. Boys looked sharp, focused and ready. Before today i wasn't too confident that the boys would get the points this week. After what i saw today, i am feeling a bit more at ease. Also got down to the Tigers Museum after training. For a gold coin donation, definately worth a view.

Can't wait for Sunday.
