Trade period really shows some people up to be completely clueless on just how difficult it is to get a trade done.
If it was so easy more trades would get done, we are not trading player cards here, its real life footballers.
We had a very successful trade period. Picked up Maric for fair market price (another trade which showed up those who had NFI) and Morris for next to nothing, then traded in pick 26 for a swap of compos that will probably see us drop a few picks from late 20s to early 30s.

yep, its mind boggling to think if the GUN was an aints supporter...I mean they had to and didnt get action in the trade week and now are left holding a burning candle...and that with value plus players. ;)

Also, people don't seem to be taking into account the fact that most clubs have gone out of their way to have as many players as possible signed up for these past couple of years, to keep them out of the hands of GCS and GWS. Very hard time to get decent players to move.

Another ting is if you are completely unreasonable at the trade table like Essendon for example, they end up with a reputation and find it incredibly hard to get any deals done. Once again they only had a small nothing trade and failed to get the big deal they were chasing done.

but dont you know Hooker or Gumbles are each worth a top ten draft pick?!?!? :D

Back to Mitch, hope he finds his mojo again at the Swans, looks like he's had a brutal 2011

You're welcome to Moore, Bevan, Seaby, Meredith and probably White next year.:thumbsu:
You'll give a few of the punters around here premature ejaculation with that post - they've been wanting Seaby since his eagles days. They don't realise he only dominates against the Tigers and is ordinary the rest of the year. If he comes to us, who will he play well against?

relax dude..you have to factor in the trading of Gus and Browne to 2 different teams, so the Seaby trade would look solid with 4 BOGs for the year..;)

Good morning guys I'd like to get the Morton thread started on the right foot. Firstly let's list the pros followed by the cons of why we would offer him another contract and not delist him or help him get to another club.

Pro's

The guy has obviously got talent. Can do the mercurial .

Skills sublime can take a grab

At 24 going 25 , really in that age that we need with a fully developed body.

Showed alot playing on the ball at end of 2010.

Con's

Has not got a defensive bone in his body. Checking his stat sheet he made his last multiple tackle game back in 2006 with West Coast.

Selfish , undisciplined player not willing to do the team things. Always going for the big speccy or the impossible goal rather than bringing the ball to ground or going to top of the square at crucial points of the game so basically can not play under pressure.

Admitted as much that his last 2 seasons were poor because he didn't do the work required in the pre seasons.

Admitted that he crumbled under the pressure of having to play out the year to get a contract for next year so he went home and hid under his dooner for 6 weeks rather than putting his head down to play good footy.

I think it was a no brainer to delist this guy and hopefully he appreciates what the club did with the trade so he could get to Sydney. The smaller ground should suit him.

What I don't understand about Morton is that at the start of 2010 he requested that Hardwick try and turn him into a midfielder / forward we all saw the benefits in this. By years end in Rd 20 ish v Carlton Hardwick actually has him playing a full game on Chris Judd as part of that development. So this guys coach backs him , totally works hard coaching him new skills , dropping other players so he can have this opportunity , has him playing on the games best player in Judd so he can get a gauge on how much work he has to do to become a mid fielder in the modern game and at seasons end he does not fire one shot in the gym or on the track in the pre season.

You can lead a horse to water but you can not make it drink. Bye bye Mitch , as I stated in the opening page of this thread " isn't it Sydney that has the no dick heads policy?"

If Paul Roos was still in charge Mitch would be lining up for Claremont next year living at home with mummy and daddy.

It's been an interesting thread to read. Overall the opinion from most fans here is Morton still has a lot to offer up forward, which is exciting for us, given the transitional phase our forward line is going through. We are renowned as a fair and decent club to trade with, so I wouldn't be surprised that the next player who is keen to go back to Melbourne might be shopped past Richmond first. On paper we seem to have done well with this trade. Hope it turns out that way in reality.
