I agree. Certainly the road i'd take.

Historically though, if English requests a trade to Eagles, they won't say no.

Similar to Jackson, who wasn't a need at Freo, if elite talent want's to come to your club you generally find a way.
I'm sure they'd entertain the idea but players don't generally nominate clubs unless there's strong interest from the club they request a move to.

Reckon the Eagles have probably gone cold on English now since it's all about the rebuild, especially after the Kelly trade.

He Is RFA though, doubt the Dogs will match if The Eagles come knocking with a Godfather offer.

100% we would match and force a trade

Would happily walk away from a trade in that scenario then.
Puts pressure on the Dogs salary cap as you are already tied up with Naughton on a long term deal and looking to do the same with Ugle-Hagan

Makes Busslinger more likely to be shaken loose too

Sean Darcy's extension will be the baseline for Tim's next deal in terms of years, he'll get 6 at least, can't see anyone offering 7 after the Grundy debacle.

That could work out well for the Dogs. If the Eagles have a pick in the top three it wouldn't be involved but you could get a future first in trade.

No side with pick #1 will offer pick #1 and anything for a single player though, not when out of contract.

They still got JUH and Bailey Smith to re-sign too.

I think JUH stays but one of Baz or English will possibly go, esp given the expected rise of Darcy this season and beyond..

It's not a great feeling for Dogs fans going into the 2024 knowing 3 of their top 7 best/most important players are out of contract at the end of the season.

Dogs would have to take the compo pick or stump up very big cash to match.

WC highly likely to be Spooners and therefore have the PSD threat up their sleeve to protect them from getting rogered by the Dogs in a trade scenario.

Cap may end up very tight at the Dogs

I think The Dogs will finish bottom 6 next season (if they have a really poor run of injuries, bottom 4) and I would be surprised if they matched any RFA bid for English if that is the case.

They are probably going to lose one of their big 3 uncontracted players, if they lose 2, it would be utterly calamitous scenario for the club. Hopefully it doesn't come to that

I really like Bailey Williams (of the Eagles variety) and think it would be a waste of their salary cap and resources if they made a big play for him

Now a team that needs bolstering in the ruck dept, North Melbourne, Brisbane or even St Kilda could understand.

I'd prefer to keep English and let Smith walk personally, although our board's best ITK says Smith is close to signing a 2 year deal to take him to FA.
And if push came to shove, I'd sign Marra above any of our unsigned players.

Don't see why we'd go after English as Bailey Williams will be AA ruck this season.

To disclose my conflict of interest, I'm also his player sponsor for 2024 👍
Weird to player sponsor another teams ruckman.

Luke Jackson is because he can play around the ground and push foward and have scoreboard impact

But you don't want to make the mistake if overpaying like Collingwood did with Brodie Grundy

English is a better resting forward and can kick straight.

Supply and demand drives price. Go look at the list of rucks in the AFL. The eliete ones mae up about the top 3 or 4. After that its another 5 or 6 who are good. After that its pretty even.

Look at the mids. Dozens of them.

We have also traded our first round to the Suns. Wouldn't that mean our English compo pick would come after our first selection in the 2024 draft?

If English did leave and the offer was Band one worthy. Would that mean our compo pick would be after our second round pick seeing as we traded our 2024 first rounder to the Suns.

It's tied to the original pick

No
Compo is tied to your ladder position regardless

And would be after where your 1st pick landed even if you don't have it

So say Bulldogs finish 4th
Gold Coast get pick 15th which you traded
Bulldogs get the next pick at 16th

If we finish last you would have to take the compo
You’re assuming you are the only club making the offer/ the club Tim chooses

If he gets an offer from someone else that he wants to go to, dogs could match and a trade could go down

And the dogs supporter is making an assumption they finish high this year whilst unlikely there’s a chance they somehow finish bottom 6 which would be close to value and accepting
